    Where to begin?

Let me start by saying I have ordered new reagents for the TF-100 to test the pool water ... I'm struggling with algae and just general *blech* of the pool. Here are my numbers: pH 6.8 FC 0 (I know this is a problem!) CC 0.5 (I know this is a problem too!) CH (calcium) 150 TA (alkalinity) 20...

    Chemicals Slipping Out of Control....

Keep at it!!! Don't give up! I had your same issue last year (before I found this site) where I could NOT keep chlorine in the pool. Our pool was only a year old and I was so frustrated I told my husband to backfill it in. Multiple times a week I was taking a water sample to the pool store...

Yet another first-timer with no clue what he's doing...

I love your humor thru this! I found myself chuckling at times. Keep plugging away at the SLAM. It took me about a week last year to get my SLAM finished where the pool would hold chlorine through the day and not lose so much overnight. It can be done and your pool will be beautiful when...

Algae again... Clears - comes back - reappers - Advise?

You would actually multiply 32 x 0.2 = 6.4ppm. If you use a 10mL water sample, you multiply the number of drops by 0.5. Was "40" the number of drops?

Going through 5ppm FC / day?

Hmmmm, just coming off a SLAM, I was excited to have "only lost" 4ppm from 530AM to 9PM. Maybe I shouldn't have been so jubilant?

Here we go with the SLAM ...

Ahhhhhhh, the sweet smell of success :) At 530AM, FC = 20 At 9PM, FC = 16 Only a 4ppm loss without adding any chlorine since yesterday morning (6/15) at 6AM!! How happy I am!

    No chlorine

Welcome to TFP Wirthlin! Your story sounds SO MUCH like my own - couldn't hold chlorine, water was clear, spent lots of $$ trying to fix the chlorine issue, the pool store kept telling me phosphates, etc. So similar!! I committed on 6/10 to starting the SLAM process. My CYA = 50, so I went...

6/15/15 (con't) 730PM FC = 22 Total loss for the day ** drum roll please ** ONLY 4.5ppm!!!!! Filter pressure went down to 10 after cleaning. We totally cleaned it, hoping to remove as much old powder as possible. My husband thinks I used about 30. I do have the ounces written down, so...

Here we go with the SLAM ...

So, I didn't post last night's results because of differing numbers. One test gave me FC = 18, the other said FC = 22. The first bottle of R-0871 is almost empty, so I think I'm going to avoid using that since it seems to be giving me lower readings. 6/15/15 6AM FC = 21.5 CC = 0 It would...

Here we go with the SLAM ...

I actually believe it was a difference in the 2 different bottles of R-0871 that I have. When I ordered my kit, I ordered the XL option. Since the extra bottle didn't fit in the kit, I kept it out and decided to use that up first. The test that I did this afternoon that read higher was a...

Here we go with the SLAM ...

So we cleaned the filter. Yep, took it apart and recharged it with new DE powder. FC prior to the recharge was 22. Figured that wasn't too high for the kids to be in so in they went!!! Total of 5 people swimming for about 2 hours. I was showing my SIL how to do the FC testing and guess what my...

Here we go with the SLAM ...

6/14/15 (con't) 2PM FC = 22 (down 7ppm since 7AM) Phos Free was prior to the last DE filter cleaning. Good to know that tidbit -- I'll keep that in mind for the future. Right now we are going to at least dump the DE, pull the ladder (although I don't think there's any creepies there) as...

Here we go with the SLAM ...

Ours was at 10 for a little while, it's gradually creeped up to 20. Our last cleaning was on 5/28 where my husband took it all apart and cleaned it, so it's gone from 10 to 20 over the course of 3 weeks. 6/14/15 (con't) 7AM FC = 29

New pool, new test kit, chlorine disappearing

Tried the OCLT the next night (6/9), but failed that one. Finally on 6/10 I decided to start the SLAM process. You can follow that at another thread I have "Here we go with the SLAM."

Here we go with the SLAM ...

No recent brushing. Cleaned out leaves this AM. CC = 0 at 730PM. Never pulled the ladder, felt the underside of the steps, nothing slimy to the touch (will have to get hubby to pull it up) Not sure how to read the date codes on the bottles of bleach, but the code all starts with "15" - maybe...

    Low (0) Chlorine Levels

Don't worry about fixing pH during the SLAM process. It's not an accurate read with the chlorine levels being high. Good luck!
