    CC Question

Current numbers: FC=14 CC=1 (measured lower this morning) pH=7.2 TA=170 CH=210 CYA=35 I haven't been in the pool to get to all the nooks and crannies around things like the light. I have used my pool brush around it though the best I could get at it. I have reached in from the side and...

    CC Question

I've been working on getting my pool open this spring. It was pretty ugly when I opened the cover, so I've been working hard to get it cleaned up. On the good side the water is very clear (not perfect). The problem is the CC number hasn't been changing. I'm still losing 4ppm of FC each day...

Do I throw in the towel?

I have not been taking pictures, but I've definitely seen improvement every day. It seems like thing I'm missing the mark on right now is the TA.

Do I throw in the towel?

I am using a liquid chlorine designed as Pool Shock. It is 12.5% Chlorine. My CC hasn't changed much through all this. It has been floating between 1.0-2.5. It has taken quite a bit of time, but here are my current numbers: FC=13.5 CC=1.5 pH=7.2 TA=170 CH=210 CYA=35 The water is clean, but...

    Adding CYA with automatic cover

I think I'm close to being ready to add stabilizer to my pool after a rough opening. I have read about the sock method, but I'm not sure how to do this if we have an automatic cover. We don't want to leave it open. Any advice?

Do I throw in the towel?

Okay... Another day another big load of chlorine! I got an ammonia test today. Looks like very little if any, but my CL demand seems high. I'm still measuring and adding a gallon plus every 10 minutes. I'm sitting at about 55 gallons that I put in the pool this spring. On the good side the...

Do I throw in the towel?

We'll, when I went to bed last night the FC was at shock level. This morning it is at 1ppm. I a positive note I think I can just barely see the bottom of the shallow end... I added more chlorine this morning, but I have to go to work and pray! Am I doing any good by putting extra in the pool...

Do I throw in the towel?

Okay... I'm not sure if I'm making progress. I spent my evening trying to stay on top of this process between having to run kids around. I have (had) gallons of CL sitting by my pool ready to add... I only had one test that I saw the FC level go up to 12. I keep adding enough CL to bring it...

Do I throw in the towel?

Okay... Looking for more thoughts. Chlorine costs me about $4/Gallon. Water costs me $3/1000gal. I'm already deep in cost on chlorine ($150-$200). The more chlorine I put in the more I'm committed to following that plan! But it is also the reason I started this thread to determine if I would...

Do I throw in the towel?

Okay... Picking this back up! I ordered some new supplies from TFTestKits. I performed all of the tests and here is what I got: Pool Temp=52F FC=.4 CC=1.8 TA=50 CH=180 pH=6.7 (it was below the chart) My CYA test was odd. I used my new chemicals and the mixture was never cloudy. I shook it...

Do I throw in the towel?

Okay... update on what I can test: FC=1ppm, pH=6.7 (It was so low I couldn't read it on my test kit), TA=50, CH=200. I couldn't test CC or CYA. I ordered replacement reagents from TFTestKits. Should I do nothing until I can use those tests?

Do I throw in the towel?

I have the kit, but I'm out of the R-0871 and R-0013. I'm in the process of ordering more. I have just been using the last CYA number I had from last fall (CYA=40) and PoolMath to add chlorine to bring it up to 16ppm morning and night (3 gallons). Last night I put in 4 gallons because it...

Do I throw in the towel?

Okay... I'm opening my pool for the year. It has a solid cover, but critters chewed my cable and we were slow getting it open. The pool is very murky. I am on day 5 and I have spent over $200 on chlorine and I have run myself out of test drops. Just to check the level this morning I used my...

Getting Ready for a Pool Party

I took it up to 11ppm before the start of the party. After a couple waves of kids going through the pool it came out the other side in really good shape. The water is a little hazy, but I'm hoping with the elevated FC (still at 9ppm) that it will be back to its beautiful clear self by tomorrow...

    TFP vs. My Old Chemicals

After a slow start this Spring and doing lots of reading on TFP I'm stuck with a dilemma... I bought 70 lbs of stabilized chlorine (pucks and granular). Now that I'm reading about the The use of liquid chlorine what should I do with my old chemicals? Should I use them up this year and switch...

Getting Ready for a Pool Party

So, after a rocky start to my Spring I have now cleared my pool and it looks great. I'm getting ready to let my kids have birthday parties in the pool this weekend. This will involve roughly 10 kids for 5 hours. I've been reading that I should bump the chlorine for events like this, but I'm...

So close... and yet so far away!

I'm at the tail end of my first SLAM (I think). A week ago my pool was so cloudy that I couldn't see the bottom of the shallow end. I started the SLAM process on Wednesday (5/29). The water cleared st of the water, but I seem to have stalled out. I was dropping 10+ppm overnight. now I seem...

Cloudy Water - Learning the Ropes

More updates and good news. I think I turned a corner here. I added the chlorine this morning, backwashed, and let the robot run for 3 hours. The water is very close to being crystal clear, but just a tiny bit cloudy. I would even say I think it looks better now than it did this morning. I...

Cloudy Water - Learning the Ropes

The good side of having a solid cover is very little can get in the pool. I've been monitoring to make sure it is staying clear though. So, today it is still cloudy. I can stand in the deep end and clearly see the drains (and some toys the kids left in there that I couldnt see before). I'm...

Cloudy Water - Learning the Ropes

Good Progress since yesterday. I've been watching it much more carefully. I had it up to 20ppm+ last night. Today it was at 8.4. I used PoolMath to figure out how much CL to add. Another 2.5gal! On a very positive note I can see the drains at the bottom of the deep end now and the shallow...

Cloudy Water - Learning the Ropes

Thanks for all the feedback. I just got home with 20 gallons of chlorine and I'm going to work on keeping the chlorine up. I only added a couple gallons before work, but the water is getting clearer. According to PoolMath it will take a little over 4 gallons of Cl to raise up to 20ppm. I'm...

Cloudy Water - Learning the Ropes

Thanks... The in-line chorinator came from my installer and I didn't really know anything different. Without a SWG does that mean manually adding liquid bleach daily to maintain FC levels? That isn't very practical with our hectic schedules! Should I use any algaecide to help things along...

Cloudy Water - Learning the Ropes

I'm still doing a lot of reading here and trying to learn, but I'm hoping for some quick feedback as I learn. When I opened my pool a few weeks ago it was amazingly clear. I vacuumed, shocked, and cleaned and the water was as clear as I've ever had it. Over memorial day weekend the chlorine...
