Sheared off access panel screws, ideas?

I’ve landed on the Tristar VS 1.85 HP, I think. Seems within my budget and easy to install (if the Mrs lets me).

Sheared off access panel screws, ideas?

Now that I'm looking at VS pumps, there are so many options. Which direction should I be looking?

Sheared off access panel screws, ideas?

Neat! So my serial # says 35212J2, so that would be the 352nd day of 2012. Learn something new every day! Thanks!

Sheared off access panel screws, ideas?

8, according to @JamesW. I think I heard that sitting on a shelf for a few years isn't a good thing for a motor or pump anyway, so I'm sure that had something to do with it's reduced lifespan.

Sheared off access panel screws, ideas?

I totally get that, and am super appreciative. I went with the 2-speed 5 years ago due to the advice I received on this very forum. Seems like a VS is the next step for me, then.

Sheared off access panel screws, ideas?

Interesting. How were you able to figure out it was manufactured in 2012? Guess the PB gave me a 3 year-old pump when he built the pool. I suspect the damage is always possible. I did have some problems with it last year too. Motor shop replaced the capacitor and it worked fine last season.

Sheared off access panel screws, ideas?

Local pool repair shops. I had them out to repair some plumbing a few days ago and I spoke to them about a potential pump replacement.

Sheared off access panel screws, ideas?

t's not 8 years old, it's only 5 years old. Regardless, probably time for a replacement anyway.

Sheared off access panel screws, ideas?

This is a two speed motor, and a natural progression would be a VS. The few people I've spoken to about a replacement are really pushing for a single speed 1.5 HP.

Sheared off access panel screws, ideas?

The motor has been having issues anyway. Starts sometimes, makes an odd sound others, and even smokes from time to time. I’ll probably take it to a local electric motor repair shop tomorrow to have it looked at.

Sheared off access panel screws, ideas?

The problem is, the heads of the screws were torqued right off, so the holes aren't open for a new screw, even if I had them.

Sheared off access panel screws, ideas?

Hi! I recently had to look at the wiring for my pump, and in the process of removing the three screws holding the access panel, they got sheared off. As a result, the single screw left isn't enough to hold it on securely, and there's a big gap: And the label for the motor itself: I've reached...

    Intermatic P1353 Wiring

Seems the new timer is borked. I went out again and tied the common line from the pump motor directly to one of the breaker legs, then took the high line and tied it to the other leg. Viola! High speed primed up just fine! Disconnected the high line from the breaker and connected the low line...

    Intermatic P1353 Wiring

For S&Gs I tried swapping terminals 4 and 6 (high and low loads) to see if low would work when connected to the “known good” high terminal. It did, once. On the second attempt it started making its weird noise again. And then I tried “circuit 2” for low (which now had the high load connected)...

    Intermatic P1353 Wiring

Ok, I'm officially stumped, any help would be appreciated. I can't get mode 2 to work, so I'm running with mode 7. Pump wiring label is up in the first post. Everything is 240V. Here's my diagram of how it's all connected right now: Here's the connections on the timer: Terminal 1: Leg A from...

    Intermatic P1353 Wiring

I was knee deep! I got 90% of the way there. Turns out my pump needed mode 7. High speed works fine, low speed is acting strange. It makes a crazy sound and eventually the overload protection kicks in and the motor turns off. I’ll need to do some more trouble shooting tomorrow as I ran out of...

    Intermatic P1353 Wiring

Howdy! I'm opening the pool today, and along with that is upgrading the existing mechanical timer to the P1353 digital timer. The advantage of this is I will now be able to program it for both high and low speeds on my pump, which is currently controlled manually by a SPDT switch near the timer...

Pool lights tripping a DIFFERENT breaker in the panel. HELP!

Actually, he did. He changed the non-GFCI light breaker to a GFCI breaker. Coincidentally, it's the same breaker that was installed last year when everything was first hooked up and removed to try and solve this problem. Everything else is the same. As far as load on the pump circuit, looking...

Pool lights tripping a DIFFERENT breaker in the panel. HELP!

The problem is solved! Neither the electrician or myself are exactly sure what the problem was, but there must have been a crossed wire or bad connection somewhere. The first thing he did this morning when he arrived was disconnect everything on the light circuit (breaker, switch, transformer...

Pool lights tripping a DIFFERENT breaker in the panel. HELP!

My PB just installed the pool and equipment. I had my own electrician (who also happens to be a friend of mine) do the electrical. I tried moving the light breaker as far away as I could in the panel. It didn't solve the problem, but it might have helped. Instead of the breaker tripping after...

Pool lights tripping a DIFFERENT breaker in the panel. HELP!

I'm going to have some time to tinker with this later this afternoon, so thanks everyone for the ideas! I can't really separate the pump, timer, heater and swg since they're all kind of dependent on each other. To answer gwegan's question: this has been happening since the pool was installed...

Pool lights tripping a DIFFERENT breaker in the panel. HELP!

... Though, I did do a test with the timer (and subsequently the pump, swg & heater) off and the breaker still tripped. I'll try again with the load wires disconnected to see if that changes anything.
