Ok KimKats my first post of the season, I'm stumped

I'm not sure, but now I'm questioning my testing . first I let my supply of CYA reagent get low. It should arrive tomorrow. When I tested two days ago it was 40 possibly 30. I added 60 oz of the 66 oz of stabilizer as that was all I had and tossed three pucks in the skimmer for backup...

Ok KimKats my first post of the season, I'm stumped

Thanks Kim, I said I would let you know if I posted something, just didn't know it would be a mystery. I now think "something" got in the pool, because I have cute 1" to 2" bubbles coming off my aerator that float around for quite a while before dissipating. Not like an algaecide would cause. It...

Ok KimKats my first post of the season, I'm stumped

I'll try to be as brief as I can. 9 days ago we had a party with a lot of swimmers. weather has been hot and sunny. the day after the swim readings were FC-6 CC-0 PH-7.6 TA-70 CYA-70 CH-150 Borates-40 Salt-3600 Was gone for a few days, then 2 days ago the boss sprayed fertilizer on lawn near...

    Continued GFCI Troubles

Hi Jay, quick question. you said new breaker is in the same spot in box as the old one but runs a different pump, did you swap the pump wiring in the box or at the pump site. The reason I ask is if the wiring from that slot is the same out to pool, I would investigate that wiring circuit.

    Water chemistry help

Hello Greg, welcome:wave: You've come to the right spot, there is someone with the right answer to every question here. As you will soon hear, I suggest you start by reading the ABC's on the home page. Others will be along with links for adding your pool particulars in your signature so we...

Schedule 80 union fitting - Is this it?

like Joel suggested, I would compare to one locally if you can. I think the standard thread is NPT tapered, but I ran into a problem on my SWG cell threads. Some use buttress threads. They look like they'll fit until you try to tighten them down. Hope that helps.

    Another Pool Opening Q

Hi snap, like +1 on what Pat told you. One thing to keep in mind, if your FC is truly 26, then your PH test will not be accurate above, geez I forgot Pat, FC10 I think. I need to go reread again. Anyway just follow Pat's directions

    Thank you. That is all.

Good post Tim, We know Dave won't ask for donations, that's why it is so easy to want to help in anyway. Besides getting all our test equipment and refills so inexpensively, from what I've saved in just one year, I can donate the max every year AND still be ahead. That is if that's okay with...

    Algae or filter not filtering?

Hang in there Melgrace, Pat beat me to your SLAM numbers. See it's great having these knowledgeable folks on here with accurate numbers and procedures. Take it from me, they led me every step of the way and I've had a pool for a long time. Please do as he says and follow the SLAM steps...

    Am I correct?

If all other factors are the same I would say yes. To raise FC level say 1ppm would take the same amount whether raise from 7 to 8 ppm or from 3 to 4ppm. But if there is some chemical reason why it would someone will correct us both on it ;)

Broken Pavers - am I screwed?!

Well if we couldn't do it twice it wouldn't be any fun:cool: I agree with what Dave and Casey said. If it were me I would go with at least 2" pavers, either one under the outside of each leg or the big pavers that would cover the entire leg area thus spreading out the load over a bigger area...

Share with me all the things you do to have a successful summer fling pool party!

I would go to Kim's party, but hey come on... just a little karaoke.. especially after a few "sodas"

New pool, just filled, but equipment not started up

Hello, yes I would wait until you can run the pump and filter to keep things mixing well. Adding acid without circulation would let the acid sit on the bottom. Adding SOME bleach is okay as it will give you some FC, but don't go overboard till your up and running;)

    Algae or filter not filtering?

Hi, It sounds like the start of an algae bloom. Try doing the overnite test to see how much FC drops overnite. The low CC could be that the algae is just starting to take hold. Don't know what effects cal/hypo might have on cloudiness. If it were me I would do a SLAM according to what pool math...

    FC vs CC?

Good point and with SWG you want CYA in 70-80 and I would tend to stay in the 7.0 range for FC

    Water Problem

Good deal, your on track. I am curious, does your SWG have a salt reading on it? Mine does and I compare it to my K-1766 test kit. the two readings don't always match but the two give me a reading I am confident with

    Lingering algae issues.........

Well, I'm going to jump in here ahead of the real pros and say, please back away from the edge:D. I believe if you would do a proper SLAM you can avoid the toxic hazmat situation. Right now your PH is good. Do a SLAM first and with your low CYA you should be able to get by with less bleach. I...

    Water Problem

I agree, remember those tabs will raise your CYA so be prudent with using them as the only way to lower CYA is with water replacement:(

    FC vs CC?

Pool Tool is right on. I look at CC as chlorine that has done its job at killing algae. That's over simplifying it, but the CC reading lets you know there is something in the pool the FC is destroying. The higher your CC is means your FC is attacking something. That's why when doing a SLAM they...

Newbie to site, own pool for 3 yrs. HELP! LOL.

Hello blueyes39 and welcome:wave: Like they said, it seems overwhelming at first, but gets MUCH easier with time. And remember, your way ahead of the game, it took some of us (me) 17 years to find this place:rolleyes:

    CYA level for covered pool

Hi tckgj, Although I don't cover my pool, I believe you still want your CYA in the 70-80 range as it is better for your SWG. I don't think it matters with pool being covered most of the time. The SWG works much better in that range, but if there is a difference with pool covered a lot, there is...

    Newbie here!

Hello Campgrrl and welcome to TFP  You have done two great things- made that pool look nice and blue again AND found this site. New first time pool owner-1st ?

Right now it runs from 9 am till 3 pm. Yes I like it to run during peak sunlight. LOL, you will probably be like me. I started here last year after 19 years of pool store disasters. Once I got my TF-100 and speed stir I checked it everyday until I realized I was getting the same numbers...

    Questions re: deswampification process

It must be related to the dandelion family that we have around here. You mow and 6 hours later they're up and growing again.:( Wish I could control them as easy as I can my pool.

Found leak around Skimmer, now what?

Yes I saw that mentioned elsewhere. It sounds like a good way to go. I have no experience with it, sooo I'm hoping one of the pros will see this and comment. ;) Stand by, I'm sure one will be along shortly::epds::
