Getting Prepared to Install a Stenner

Couldn't think of anything more original than "garyengr" back in the early 90's and have stuck with it. I'm on the road right now and don't have access to my file. I do not put a cover on my pool. Over the winter if I recall correctly, I was down to injecting maybe 20-30 oz of chlorine a day...

    SURVEY - Liquid FC Dosing

    1. Which liquid chlorine dosing system do you use? (Stenner, other dosing pump, or Liquidator, etc.?) STENNER 2. Does your system respond to a sensor, or do you dial it in based on your drop-based testing? (drop-based, sensor, sensor and dial it in, etc.) DIAL IT IN 3. What is your current...

    Another Stenner install

I worried about this during planning of my install. Other moderators on this site convinced me this was not an issue. The timer in my pump and the timer on the Stenner clocks are very accurate and maintain time accurately even during power outages. I have seen at most a +/- 1 minute change...

    New Stenner Install

I run my stenner twice per day - 10am and 2pm, here in Tucson, AZ. This will be the second year I've had my stenner and I couldn't be happier. In the winter, I was dosing it about 18 oz/day. Mid March I increased to 27 oz when my FC began to drop below 7 (CYA 70). At the end of March I again...

Getting Prepared to Install a Stenner

Yes - I run my VS pump at about 1600 RPM from 6am to 5pm. As long as you have circulation when the stenner is delivering chlorine you should be fine. At low pump speeds the concentration of chlorine in the plumbing will be higher but the chlorine will be dispersed even at low pump speeds. Gary

    Problems with Stenner

Meyers: More information here than you posted in my thread. Leaking chlorine from the pump housing indicates a split/hole/crack in the pump tube after the first roller. A split/hole/crack in the pump tube before the first roller would result in a pump suction side leak which would prevent...

Getting Prepared to Install a Stenner

I assume by "..nothing seems to be pumping out.." you have disconnected the output line and verified with the pump running there is no flow. In this case the two most likely candidates are a plugged pickup or broken pump tube. (1) Disconnect the inlet line to the pump and blow through it. If...

Getting Prepared to Install a Stenner

Have been using a stenner pump and tank for 9 weeks now and am still extremely happy with the performance. The following is my latest FC data chart: I've added a prediction of chlorine demand which is a 7 day sliding average computed from projected tank chlorine strength (projected from...

Stenner Install and Bleach Storage Tank

I have zero experience with indoor pools. Someone else should chime in. (1) If this is an indoor pool, why would you expect the chlorine consumption to require 1-2 gallons of chlorine (5%) per day? Your pool is listed in your signature line as being 25,000 gallons. I have a 20,000 gallon...

30 Year Pool Owner - New to TFP

This is an update to my previous post. The TFP method has been working great for me. I have installed a Stenner and tank to automate chlorine dosing. Unfortunately, not all is rosy. Several commented on my first post about the big Saguaro we had by our pool. Well, a couple of weeks ago, I...

    Pool will not hold chlorine

It is my understanding, the accuracy of the FC testing (w/10ml water sample), given it is done correctly, is 1/2 ppm (not sure if this is +/- 0.5ppm or +/- 0.25 ppm but will use +/- 0.25 ppm for what follows). Taking the difference of two measurements with an accuracy of +/- 0.25 ppm gives a...

Getting Prepared to Install a Stenner

9 days have gone by since I posted the last FC and dosing chart. Below find my current chart: Our temperature in Tucson has climbed and we have been hitting 104-109 highs for the last 9 days with lows of high 70's to low 80's. This has resulted in increased chlorine consumption and thus I...

Stenner single speed pump 45 series.makes loud squeak when running.

I have been looking at stenner posts for a couple of weeks before I purchased and installed mine. I have not seen any mention of the type of noise you are having - therefore, it is likely you have a defective unit. If I were you, I would contact either: (1) Stenner Pump Manufacturer -...

How do I know if the Stenner is pumping?

That pulsing is the tube being stretched by the rollers in the pump. It happens even if there is no chlorine being pumped (i.e. tank dry). The only ways I know to tell are: (a) Buy and install their flow meter. (b) Grab water from the return jet in the pool and measure FC which should be...

What's the best way to automate chlorine?

You should easily be able to go 2 weeks - 4+ weeks would be a better estimate in the summer. I began using a stenner on 5/31/2015. To date, I have pumped an estimated 8 gallons, however, my consumption has gone up significantly. When I began, the temperature was about 90 degrees, yesterday we...

Bye-Bye Liquidator... Hello Stenner!... Maybe. (This time with info in my sig, doh!)

FixItPete: Good luck this weekend. Regarding the hole size - I've rechecked and I actually used a 1/4" bit not a 7/32". Of course you would have found out when it was exceedingly difficult to force the tube in.

Bye-Bye Liquidator... Hello Stenner!... Maybe. (This time with info in my sig, doh!)

The tube is 1/4" OD. I just drilled at 7/32" 1/4" hole in the top and forced the 1/4" tube into in. It's tight enough to prevent water from leaking in. If I had a grommet I would have used it but with the tube as tight as it is, don't believe one is necessary. Believe it is suppose to be...

Sorry - tap size should have been 1/4" 18-NPT. Will correct. Gary

Stenner install: To tape or not to tape...to trim or not to trim

I drilled a 7/16" hole into a 2" 90 deg and 2" pipe, tapped it with a 1/2" 18-NPT 1/4" 18-NPT, used teflon tape (~3 wraps) and screwed directly into the hole. Did not trim the end. Since the quill is roughly in the middle of the return flow, didn't feel it necessary to trim it. Gary

    Stenner Questions

Based on my experience you will not be disappointed. I use to get mustard algae about every two weeks on the south walls of my pool. I've now gone 6 weeks with the clearest pool I've every had. Gary

    Stenner Questions

The timer comment was mine. In my former profession, we worried about very low likely hood events in our designs. The comment on timer technology was to ensure similar behavior in the event of power outages to prevent dosing w/o the pump running. If you're not worried about that then its not...

    Stenner Pump Noise

I agree with Bama that the fixed rate pump is pretty quiet. I have a VS pool pump running at 1600 RPM. Both pumps make about the same level of noise, however, the pool pump is fairly quiet at 1600 rpm but its noise is constant. The stenner on the other hand is modulated due to the three...

Getting Prepared to Install a Stenner

Believe you can get by without the high pressure since I believe the low pressure is for injecting into systems with pressures < 25psi while the high pressure is for systems up to 100 psi. (unlikely you will have >25 psi in your return line after the filter which is where you should be...

Getting Prepared to Install a Stenner

That's correct, no need for a separate switch to turn on either the pool pump or the stenner given you wire both up to the ET-1125XX. As long as you buy an ET-1125XX, it will have the two on/off buttons. If XX=CR - this is the indoor/outdoor metal enclosure; XX=C - this is the indoor metal...

Getting Prepared to Install a Stenner

Skimmer: I have an ET-1125CR. This digital timer if set to IND mode, allows each of the on/off buttons to manually control one of the switches and I believe they would operate just like the lever switch on the old intermatic mechanical timers - i.e. allowing either full manual if turned on and...
