Help: I started Opening but couldn't keep up

So I started opening, early and without too many problems. I opened to my usual green pool and because I didn't open last year (I was out of time), it was way worse than usual. So I did my usual SLAM, was getting to where I could see the bottom of the deep end, however it was still pretty...

    It's been a while

I mean yes and no. What about slam times? I have to slam at every opening. No matter what I do. My mesh cover just doesn't keep enough stuff out to allow me to open to a clear pool. I have done the close late and open early thing and it still didn't work out for me.

I guess I will have to do some research and find some liquid chlorine. There is a place that I go to every now and then, a pool store, maybe I can start going there instead. I always wanted a stenner pump setup with a big chemical jug, maybe I will have bite the bullet and just do it!

Also I appreciate the appreciation of my service. It pays the bills but other than that it is not something I enjoy. It's a very stressful environment. So if the "bulk" boxes that I buy at my local Sam's Club is out of the question, what is another way to bulk purchase bleach? I like to get...

    It's been a while

Dang it. I saw that on the 5 boxes that I bought today. Should have made my post before hand. I saw that label and thought to myself, "What could they have changed that really made it not usable?" Did I really just waste the money on 15 gallons of bleach I can't use?

    It's been a while

I haven't been around in a while. I was on deployment in the military last year and we didn't open the pool. I know what I need to do to get it cleaned up but I was curious if anything has changed in the last year to year and a half. Something like: "Don't use chlorox bleach anymore because...

    Slam bleach or chlorine?

I have a membership to Sam’s Club and I get a box of 3-8.25% concentrated Clorox, for approx $9. That price isn’t too too bad depending on what price you can get a single jug for. Around here at the grocery stores it’s about $4 for jug. Edit: It really depends on availability and cost. The...

    Slam bleach or chlorine?

Bleach and liquid chlorine are essentially the same thing. Bleach has a lower concentrate (which you’ve already noted). In real world terms it all depends on where you can get the best prices. The slam process will not go slower or faster with either of the two, IMO. It will just make a...

    always SLAM at opening?

I’m sort of pre occupied at the moment but a few things on your SLAM. Technically you aren’t supposed to have to SLAM every opening. They say that if it’s done properly, close when water temp is below 60 and open with the same thoughts, that your pool will still be clear. I have a mesh cover...

what to do. Pump died during slamming process?

You could add chlorine and then mix it up with your brush while scrubbing.

    Opening pool de filter cleaning.

A picture of them may help, but solely based on how they drain and your comment of them not being old I would say you’re ok with just a good rinse. That is just my opinion though.

    Opening pool de filter cleaning.

How bad are they, in your own opinion? I don’t remember the specifics but one of the things I look for when I rinse mine off is how much they either hold water or don’t hold water. If there is a decent amount of water still holding in each grid and it doesn’t drain out (through the fabric) in a...

    Having trouble blowing out lines

Only thing I can think of is to mentally follow the path of the air that you’re trying to blow through the system. Make sure the valves are open and shut properly. I’m sure you’ve done this already but it’s the only thing I can think of. Some pictures of your pad may help as well. Maybe not...

    Having trouble blowing out lines

Do you have two skimmers? Sometimes if I don’t plug up the suction really good on the other return, it won’t create enough pressure to blow the excess water/air out of my returns.

How low to drain for closing?

Well I don’t have a waterfall but for me I plug up every skimmer except one, then use a shopvac in reverse until nothing but air comes out of the returns.

How low to drain for closing?

I personally drain mine a few inches below the returns so I can blow out the lines.

    Blowing out the lines

Me personally, I use my shop vac in reverse. I shut the suction valve at the pump, plug up my other skimmer suction inside the skimmer (I use a test plug I got at Lowes or Home Depot). Then I blow air into the other skimmer suction until water no longer comes out of the returns.

    Pump wont prime

Hey sorry I have been busy. Same day I posted this I had the fill up hose in the water. Once I was able to get enough water to be able to switch over my suction valve from bottom to mix, I was able to get the pump primed. If I switch the valve back to skimmer only I hardly have any suction...

    Pump wont prime

If I remember correctly this is because of an air leak? Long story short the pool water level got low while I had the suction valve in the mix position (skimmers and bottom). I also had the boost pump on pushing around the Polaris... The wife called me while I was away from the house and told...

    Is my CYA really gone?

So JamesW you're saying there was already bacteria there and the low FC allowed it to take off? Or there was just a little there and the low FC allowed it to multiply quickly? I will read through that thread. Thank you!!

    Is my CYA really gone?

So...because I'm not rich and had a suspicion of the ammonia, I only added one gallon. According to pool math that would bring me up a little past 5ppm. Well 10 minutes later it's all gone and CC reading was a 4. :( Should I worry about the Ph at all before I start trying to get rid of the...

    Is my CYA really gone?

So I just went away for the 4th of July. I should have floated some pucks but I sure didn't. I came back to a green tinged pool. I know what to do to clear it up but I took my readings and my Ph is off the charts, FC is 0 (I expected that) and I am getting a reading of 0 for my CYA. It is not a...

Well, that means there was something in there. It's dead now, and if it's cleared up then the dead stuffs been filtered out. Should have asked about an OCLT. Do you happen to know exactly what was in the bag o' shock?
