I have decided to get a heat pump...questions!

Hi everyone, We have been using a diy solar coil system and solar blankets for years, but due to lack of sun (due to the position of our house and trees) and a preference for unreasonably warm water, our swim season has remained fairly short. I've decided to bite the bullet and just get an...

Pool party this weekend and it's cold

Okay so I am having a pool party over Memorial Day weekend and am so afraid it's going to suck. We have a homemade solar coil system (with a TON of coils), and a solar blanket. In years past this has worked just fine, but this year has not been very warm or sunny so far, and our water right now...

    Foamy hot tub?

Hi guys, I let my hot tub get low on chlorine (on accident). It was at about .5. I just added some dichlor granules. The water is totally clear, but when I turn the jets on it is rather foamy. We just changed the water about a month ago and since then we have only used it maybe 4 times. Any advice?

How often do you actually use your pool?

It seems like I spend a lot more time taking care of mine than I actually spend using it. This is mostly because we are in full shade by late afternoon. We generally use ours once per week from late May to early September. If I divide up our expenses related to pool ownership we are probably...

    What's your favorite pool game?

I'm browsing Amazon looking at various ring toss, ball games, and pool jousting sets, and am just wondering...what's your favorite game to play in the pool? Lots of inflatables are on sale at my local pool store right now :D (which means the prices are down to "reasonable" lol).

Cloudy smelly spa after pool party

So we had a party over the weekend and had quite a few people in our hot tub (2002 jacuzzi J-Series...can't remember the model but the measurements (outside) are 5 ft x 6 ft, and it has 2 seats plus one lounge thing). The water looked fine Saturday night and I had been drinking and didn't think...

Is it okay to swim with the pump on?

This is a beginner question so I am posting it here. I've read that it's not safe to swim with the pump on. But we have to run our pump in order to run the waterfall. We are having a pool party in a couple of weeks. Is it okay to run the pump/waterfall while people swim?

    Pool Party tips!

So my husband and I are about to throw our 2nd ever pool party in a few weeks (we just got a house with a pool about 2 years ago). I feel like I learned a lot from last year's party, but am wondering if any of you more experienced party-throwers have tips to share! Last year's party went...

My test results are baffling me.

Okay, so I am new to testing my own water. I have two tests kits, both Taylor brand. One is an OTO kit that tests total chlorine, bromine, and Ph. The other is a K-1001 DPD that tests free chlorine, bromine, and Ph. We tested out water at a pool supply store on Friday and it said our total...

New white grout turning YELLOW! Help!

Hello all, We recently had our pool replastered and the waterline tile replaced. The grout was white when installed (like 3 weeks ago). Now, wherever it's exposed to water, it is yellow! Please see pic. Any ideas as to what's causing this? It started to look very slightly yellow right away...

Streaky Quartzscapes is this normal? Resurface update.

Okay, so our PB put in the quartzscapes finish yesterday (Tahoe Blue with abalone added). Today he is coming back to do the acid wash to expose the quartz. After that the pool will be filled and given a "hot start" or acid bath. The thing is, so far it is very streaky/lots of dark lines. Is this...

How long until you can swim after Quartzscapes replaster?

We were hoping to have our pool open by Memorial Day. However it looks like it can't be resurfaced for at least another week due to weather. How long is it until you can swim after a Quartzscapes replaster?

    Replastering with Quartzscapes

So we are going to be replastering with Quartzscapes. We viewed two pools today (one brand new, the other 3 years old) with this finish. We really like the dark blue color. However, the refinishing guy warned us that a dark finish can look lighter over time (over a period of years). Is this...

in ground pool...safe to swim while pump is on?

Hello, I hope this isn't a stupid question, but I read it might be unsafebto swim while your pump is running. But our pump runs a) our waterfall and B) our (diy solar coil) heat system. As a kid I swam in our above ground (doughboy) all the time with the pump on and nothing ever happened. So...

Why is my pool still cold?!

My husband rigged up hundreds of feet of black hose to make big solar coils and put them on the roof. Also, we have been using a thick, blue solar blanket for about 2 months (the coils have been working for a few weeks). My pool is only 74 degrees this morning! Temps have only been in the low...

my first pool party.....bad weather?! what to do...

Okay so Memorial Day weekend is the traditional time to open up the pool, right? I have planned a pool party/bbq for around 20 people. Now, I am in northern California. Normally our rainy season ends in March and by late April everything is dry as a bone! By late May, it is generally sunny with...

I bought a solar cover but it is ugly

I bought a solar cover along with a nice reel (steel, on casters, adjustable height). The cover is a 12mm dark blue bubble-wrap looking thing. Here's the thing: the reel and cover seem to take up my whole yard! When I wind up the cover during the day, all I can see is this huge THING with a...

exposing the aggregate in Diamond Brite

I spoke with a representative of a pool company today regarding replastering my pool with Diamond Brite. I went out and viewed a pool they had just replastered, and you could barely see any aggregate at all (looked nothing like the sample I have). I was told that they don't expose the aggregate...

Is mottling or streaks normal in new Diamond Brite?

I am trying to choose a color of Diamond Brite. I have gone out to see two pools. One was white with blue quartz (I think it was the Diamond Brite "Blue" color). It looked perfect, very smooth and even. I viewed a darkish gray/blue mix Diamond Brite pool and the finish was rather streaky or...

Please tell me this will be a cheap fix.

replaster...skimmer problem? Please see linked photo. Hi All! I am new here. My husband and I moved into a house with a pool a few months ago, and it is in need of replastering. There is a crack or small hole in the concrete leading up to the skimmer mouth where a couple of tiles are missing...
