Anyone in the mid-Atlantic region have a heat pump?

I realize this won't answer your question, but we are 10 miles north of phila. We don't have a heat pump, but do have some solar panels and use a solar cover. The temp has not been below 85 degrees in the evening in our pool since before Memorial Day.

Another TFP and BBB success story

I originally found this site when researching solar panels about 3-4 years ago. Prior to that, I had been caring for the pool myself, using a pool store purchased book as my guide. Had trichlor pucks and was constantly battling pH and total alkalinity and FC, measuring and adding one thing or...

Cutting solar cover into strips support thread!

I've done the same thing with PVC pipe and I tired of it very quickly. I cut it up in thirds. My wife, inlaws, babysitter and kids never got the hang of it. I went to a reel and my 5 year old can now cover and uncover the pool.

    Under water breathing apparatus?

Also with a long snorkel, eventually all you will be doing is moving exhaled CO2 back and forth (with the nitrogen).

Solar Roof Panels vs Heat Pump in CT/New England?

I installed solar on ground based racks last spring and it totally changed our pool usage. My family likes the pool in high 80s to swim in. Before solar, even with covers, we could sometimes get there for a week or two every summer. This summer, we were consistenly above 88 since the week...

    How's the water?

It's funny how different folks like different temps. This apparently has been the hottest July here since records were kept. We have solar panels and keep the temps at 92-93 on purpose. Every night, even with the cover on, the pool water cools to the high 80s by the AM. We rarely get to...

Deck-mount 24'-wide solar blanket reel for one person?

Sorry, I took the pics a couple of days ago, but my stupid new mac couldn't read the card all of a sudden.

Deck-mount 24'-wide solar blanket reel for one person?

If you want I can try to get a pic tomorrow of mine in action. It works great so far, and seems that it should last a good long time.

    Shocking question?

Similar thing happened to me last year or the year before. I shocked for days but the water looked great. I finally backwashed even though the pressure was fine. The backwash was disgustingly brown and green. Chlorine held just fine after that

    Water in the light fixture

This season, after some pool replastering and a long acid bath to fix the spotty job they did, I have noticed that there is water within the fixture ~2/3 way up. It's works just fine and I know that it has been on at least 30 min or longer at a time without any obvious sequela, before I noticed...

Would like your opinion about this solar panel setup.

You should have one measuring pool temp and one measuring panel temp. I think my valves open to the panels when there is more than an 8 degree difference. Place the solar panel sensor right next to panel

Rectangular solar cover for Kidney pool

I know that it can be done, but does anyone actually do it? It's time for me to get a new solar cover. Currently I have a cover divided into 4 pieces that fit perfectly over a odd shaped pool. I'm considering using a rectangular piece floating in the pool that does not overhang the edges. I...

solar cover(blanket) reels - opinions wanted

I also made a similar design out of PVC 2 years ago. My pool is irregular and about 20 x 40. I did it in two pieces, then 4, but I think 3 pieces would work best for my shape and size. It is easy to role up and a bit more challenging to role out. I'll reiterate that it is easiest to remove...

    Solar panel rack question

Thanks. It took a bit of time, but was not all that difficult once I made the plans and got the materials. If anything goes wrong, I don't have to climb up 25 ft to fix it.

    Solar panel rack question

For those interested, I've posted a couple of pics. The pool is nice and toasty now. It easily keeps it in the 85-93 degree range. Just where my family likes it.

    Appreciate any help about automation

Well, I bit the bullet and ordered some stuff which should be on the way. I was hoping to get some feedback from ProLogic owners before I ordered the system. Ended up with the PS4. It appears that it is the only one that I looked at that has Macro capability that then can be assigned to one...

    Appreciate any help about automation

I've been pouring through the instruction manuals of the different units the past couple of days and think I have a better understanding of the components and capacities. I wish these things were a bit more clear in the literature. I don't want to make a huge investment and then find out that it...

    Appreciate any help about automation

Thanks for the prompt reply. So that list should provide me with everything that I would need for current needs? and future expansion? Would the smaller one fit my current need/mandatory list? It looks like that would be similar to the Goldline Prologic PS-8? I was also looking at the less...

    Appreciate any help about automation

Would really appreciate some opinions on what type of automation would fit my needs. I've been looking at some setups, but am a bit confused about what they do and what some of the terms mean practically. I've spent most of my time looking at Goldline and Jandy, but for no particular reasons...

    HELP! BUBBLES!

Try some simethicone - sometimes sold as "infant gas drops". It should control the bubbles. I'm not sure how long it will take to filter out the soap. That's not an experiment that I want to try.

    Solar panel rack question

Thanks for the prompt replies. There typically is not much wind on a daily basis. I repositioned our fence yesterday so the panel will be facing south. We are at about 40 latitude, so I was put the angle at 25 degrees. I'm not sure if I will back it yet. I am sure that I won't do plywood...

    Solar panel rack question

I have some solar panels on the way and will be placing them on a ground based rack. The array will be 30'x12'. I have seen some plans and they all seem to have an open architecture. No backing. I would think having some black backing material would be better for the efficiency of the panels...

White powder-like substance on solar cover

I see the white stuff all the time after the water evaporates. It's shows up great on the blue cover. It's harmless. It's a salt for sure, probably mostly NaCl, but could be Ca as well. Try boiling tap water in a pan and look at the residue that is left when the water is gone.

Can you really not smell the chlorine?

I agree. The water definitely can have a very faint pleasant "clorox" smell to the water when it is clear, clean and there is no CC. The FC in my pool usually stays between 5 and 9. Perhaps those who can maintain lower FC levels in their pool have a more difficult time detecting it. Also...
