    Filter/Pump Wiring Question

I'm not an expert, but I'd make two points: Consider spending a little more to bury it in rigid steel conduit for safety. You won't have to bury it as deep, either. If you do use the PVC, though, make sure you bury it at the code-required depth, which I believe is 18". And, you probably...

Pool season opens, May 16th! Thanks to Trouble Free Pool.

Yeah, BBB is the way to go. So simple, and no extra Crud going into the water!

Pool season opens, May 16th! Thanks to Trouble Free Pool.

Just put the ladder back in today, and got in the pool meaning to put the little liner protector mat under the ladder. Just kinda stand there and toe it into position, right? Thought that's all I'd be able to do, cuz the thermometer read a frosty 79. Ended up taking a swim for 45 minutes. A...

Closing/covering AGP in So. Calif--couple of questions

I use liquid. That wrap looks like a good idea.

Closing/covering AGP in So. Calif--couple of questions

I'm putting in air pillows also, but I see your point: whatever I do the water will run off and over the side of the pool. But I'm thinking that it'll be better covered because, without a cover, the water would fill the pool until it finds the lowest point of the wall and then spill out there...

Closing/covering AGP in So. Calif--couple of questions

This is my first closing for a pool we got last July. I know I don't have to literally close the pool for the winter, due to our So. Cal location, but the thing is we are leaving for a 4 week vacation, and I'm thinking the best thing to do is keep it covered. This time of year it gets windy, and...

My Aquabug sucks.... literally sucks air. How about yours?

That vac plate sounds like just the ticket. I'll get one this weekend. Do I need the cone adapter with that? Or does the hose fit as is? So far, looks like I'm the only one with a airsucking bug. I'm hoping when I check out the hose that I do find a leak that explains all this....

My Aquabug sucks.... literally sucks air. How about yours?

Close... Here's a pic of mine. You remove the cover and place it down inside to block the normal entrance for the water. Then it draws from the small port underneath. You can also remove the skimmer basket and plug the hose in to the main hole beneath it, and bypass the above procedure. But I...

My Aquabug sucks.... literally sucks air. How about yours?

I think you have just hit the nail on the head. I do have a pump that's a little large for the pool (see my signature). And the relatively small diameter of the hose must be restricting the flow somewhat. And then maybe the the suction is so strong in the hose that it sucks a bit of air at the...

My Aquabug sucks.... literally sucks air. How about yours?

No, the skimmer is first in line after the hose itself, so the air must be leaking somewhere in the hose, then a bubble of air develops in the skimmer.

My Aquabug sucks.... literally sucks air. How about yours?

Yeah. I have a Doughboy pool, and it came with the type of skimmer where you remove the cover and place it down inside, to block the normal path of the water. Then the skimmer draws water from a little port located just under the main opening with the hinged flap. (Not describing it very well...

My Aquabug sucks.... literally sucks air. How about yours?

Thanks!.. Yeah, I assumed it would be less efficient. And I would love to find a real fix for this. Am I right in the idea that you can't run the pump totally dry, without burning it up? That's what I've been told. I don't understand exactly what you mean. I don't see bubbles coming from the...

My Aquabug sucks.... literally sucks air. How about yours?

Thanks for the answer... It's not that the water level is low. I start off getting all the air out of the hose and the skimmer basket is full. But then it's as though over 10 minutes or so air somehow gets into the system and I see something like you're describing going on in the skimmer basket...

My Aquabug sucks.... literally sucks air. How about yours?

Like the title says, my Aquabug sucks air. Every 10 minutes or so, air accumulates in my filter and I have to vent it by opening the valve on the top of the filter. It's done this ever since I first used it. I assume it's because the sectional hose you need to use with an Aquabug sucks in a...

Pea gravel around pool a problem?

Sorry, all. I guess I should have posted this in the landscaping area. I'm a newbie, so I didn't know any better. If a moderator wants to move this thread, please go ahead!

Pea gravel around pool a problem?

Thanks for the quick reply, amjohn. Sorry for my slow one... I don't have the small pea gravel. I have something called Mexican River Pebbles, but I guess it's the same basic idea. They're large enough to not be a total pain (like sticking to your feet), but I had to put in a edging strip to...

Pea gravel around pool a problem?

moved to more appropriate forum - Moderator I read in another post that you shouldn't use pea gravel to backfill around a pool, because it holds on to the water and doesn't dry out. Poster said to use larger stones. That makes sense to me, to not use it for backfill. What about just...

Thanks for the additional info. Well, I guess I'm going to play it safe and start off with two shifts of 4 hours each, and keep an eye on the water.

Thanks also for the quick reply, and the welcome. Yeah, I know the pump is borderline too big. The pool salesman who sold it to us didn't mention that you could go too big! I'm hoping that this is not a problem. Possibly it's an asset if it keeps the pool sparkly and cuts down on the time...

Newbie here: some basic fliter questions.

Thanks for the quick reply! The pump is 1.5hp, matched to the filter. I figured there would be losses to account for, not to mention the 80gpm specs possibly being a little overstated by Hayward. It's hard plumbed-in with 1.5" PVC, instead of the hoses that came with it, and I assume that...

Newbie here: some basic fliter questions.

Hello all: newbie here. First post, in fact. We've had our pool one month exactly, and it's been perfect so far. Water is beautiful and clear. I've been able to keep the chlorine and ph levels at optimum. But I've got some questions... To start off... 1) Pool store guy said to run the...
