    Air in pump basket

Okay, so I have two problems that I am wondering if they are connected to each other. First, when start up my main pump, I see quite a bit of air rushing in to the pump basket from the suction side pipe. It only occurs at startup and it occurs immediately after I turn on the pump but the air...

    pH/Alkalinity question

Thanks. The link says 70-90+ which mine is not too far from. Should i reduce it to 70? My test kit is the TFT-100 from TFTestKits. The laminated sheet that comes with the test says "100-120 for manually chlorinated pools."

    pH/Alkalinity question

Thanks Jason. What do you recommend my TA to be? The test kit says 100-120 for chlorine pools. My plaster is 30 years old...getting it replaced this winter. And yes, I definitely need to check the top off (city water). Good call.

    pH/Alkalinity question

So here are my water parameters: TA 100 pH 7.8 FC 9 CYA 80 Just last week, I put in muriatic acid to lower the pH to 7.4 but a week later it is back up to 7.8. My TA is right where it should be so I am very confused. I am adding generic bleach from the grocery store...could it be that the...

    Dallas pool companies

Thanks everyone! I did call Classic Pool and Tile and hopefully they can come out soon. However, I really do like Sam's Outdoor Living. They have done quite a bit in our neighborhood and I really like their work.

    Dallas pool companies

Quick question for all of you Dallas pool owners: we have a new pool (new to us) and this has been our first summer swimming in it and have enjoyed it TREMENDOUSLY. And with the help of all of you here, the pool has been crystal clear for most of the summer. Anyway, I need to have the pool...

    Chlorine too high?

Okay, so i just drained the pool about 1/3 of the way this weekend. However, I am still pretty high on the CYA...160. Unfortunately my FC went way down to 2. Since the FC to CYA chart doesn't have 160 on it...where should my FC be?

    Chlorine too high?

Again, thanks for all the advice. So when i drain the pool...do i need to open the hydro-static valve?? I have no idea if i have one and where it might be. I have heard concrete pools can float and i am not really wanting to have that happen! I only am planning on draining 1/3 to 1/2 of the pool.

    Chlorine too high?

Richard320, thanks so much. That definitely helps. I personally don't own a tanker truck full of bleach so i think i will try the dilution method for CYA. If that still shows a high CYA reading, i will drain it. I have a feeling i will be doing the latter. However, i am still baffled as to how...

    Chlorine too high?

Thanks everyone. I am learning a lot on these forums. So i have a test kit and i tested CYA tonight and it is off the charts. I start dropping in the solution and i cannot see the black dot before it gets to 100. Plus, the free chlorine test is "tweety bird" yellow. The only thing i can think is...

    Chlorine too high?

As a new pool owner (old pool but new to me), I am still trying to figure out the basics of pool chemistry. Since we moved in December 15th, the chlorine has been high (at least 5 and has not come down a bit since). From what I am hearing from others, this isn't something to be worried about but...

    Newbie backwash mistake

    Newbie backwash mistake

Okay, I just made my first (and probably not last) mistake. When doing the backwash for the first time (we just moved in to our house a week ago) I left the polaris on while doing the backwash. It doesn't look like a lot of DE made it in to the pool but there definitely is some. Do I need to...
