hi, so water is leaking out through the backwash, I suppose through the valve. I don't have time to do a replacement job at the moment so would it still be okay to add DE to the filter or would that eventually all go into the backwash as well?

Yeah, looks like you might be right. There is indeed an outlet some ways away that has a popped GCFI button. Don't know precisely why other than water going into the ground during the backwash but we're going to try to figure it out.
