    Can't stop the algae

I have pulled the top off the filter and stirred up the sand to make sure there was no channeling. It was actually pretty clean compared to some of the pics and comments from others on that thread. I think I finally got rid of the algae. Water is perfectly clear and I passed the OCLT test last...

    Can't stop the algae

I'm using Liquid Pool shock from Leslie's which they say ranges between 10-12.5%. I thought that was a big jump as well. I'm going to go check it again in the next 30 mins just to be sure. I typically go up about 3ppm with a gallon. It was also early this morning and I'm questioning if it was...

    Can't stop the algae

At 9:00pm last night the chlorine was at 25, at 6:00pm this morning it had dropped to 19.5. I added another gallon of chlorine which brought me back up to 25. Going to keep it over 20 all day today and see where I sit tomorrow morning. The water is definitely clearer then it has been all...

    Can't stop the algae

What is the tolerance in the ppm measurement for the chlorine. Seems like the CYA test is somewhat subjective and since that is the basis for everything else, does the chlorine really have to be at 20 or will 19 be OK? more curiosity at this point.

    Can't stop the algae

Husky25, thanks for the info. I found the sticker and my flow rate is 75GPM so I can turn over the whole pool in a little over 8 hours. Sounds like I should be fine as soon as my SLAM completes. I was at 8ppm for chlorine at 8am this morning. I added 2 gallons of chlorine and just tested again...

    Can't stop the algae

Yes. I was vacuuming to waste everyday but that got old quick. So now I am just brushing. Yes. I have been putting DE after every backwashing. I noticed the filter pressure gauge never really goes up much. Starts around 19 and never really gets over 21. After I backwash it seems to work worse...

    Can't stop the algae

Im using a Taylor kit that I put together myself. I started out with a FAS only but I added the proper chemicals and other stuff to be able to do a FAS-DPD chlorine test and a CYA test. - - - Updated - - - I replied to kimkats post with that info. I basically used a home built kit. I bought...

    Can't stop the algae

You and I have similar standards on water clarity. Right now I'm not sure I can tell its a quarter. Actually after thinking about it, Im not sure I can tell if its a quarter standing on a ladder that is 14' tall. You must have good eyesight. I can see the screws on the main drains but I can't...

    Can't stop the algae

OK sounds like I get impatient, nothing new :). I have not kept the level at 24 until I get crystal clear water. Guess I need to keep it much higher than I have been and just be patient. The pool is pretty much brand new as of last August. I got it out of foreclosure and had to replace the...

    Can't stop the algae

CYA = 50 pH = 7.6 TA = 110 I'm still fairly new to pool ownership, this is my first full season. I've had a couple algae blooms this year and have had to SLAM twice now. I never can seem to completely get rid of the algae. Every single morning there is a thin film on the bottom and sides...

Is is pollen, dirt, or algae?

Re: at how many PPM can algae NOT grow? Any suggestions on a technique to collect some? seems like it might be kind of tricky. Maybe a small suction bottle held down near some on the bottom and try to suck it up? How about a sand filter? Could not backwashing it regularly be a source of...

Is is pollen, dirt, or algae?

I've been wondering the same thing. I'm a newbie and I thought I finally got a SLAM to work right. I had a couple false starts because I didn't follow ALL the instructions. I didn't get my own complete test kit so I was relying on the pool store to get my CYA number. In two weeks I got four...

    brand new pool

Ok I can see why the tests strips can be inaccurate due to age, poor storage etc... How about the sequestrants? How do I know if I added enough and when to add more?

    brand new pool

Yes I am using test strips right now. is the concern with the strips accuracy? Why are they not recommended? I am starting to work on lowering the ph but I read somewhere else to try to remove as much metal as possible prior to bringing down the ph. I just turned the pump on 48 hours ago and the...

    brand new pool

Hi, I bought a home in April that had an in ground pool that was in need of renovation. I have never owned a pool before so this is all new to me. We are just now getting it up and running after a completely new bottom, liner, some new coping, and new decking. I had to fill it with well water...
