The gift that kept on giving...

So I've been a TFP follower and advocate for a really long time. Use it every year and my pool is perfect. This year I got stumped and I want to share why, so others don't fall foul of the same Crud. Opening my pool this year I thought would be a breeze. Using my trusty TF-100 test kit, I got...

Got my ph, CYA and TA levels all where they should be and now getting ready to start the shocking process. My question is can I vacuum the algae/dirt on the bottom with my automatic pool rover jr, or do i have to hop in and use the vacuum to waste dirt devil I have? Cheers!

    What adapter?

Well, my old pump finally died and I purchased a new one, which of course has a different fitting for connecting to the sand filter. Below are 3 pics, my old pump, the pipe that attached to it and my new pump. What sort of adapter do i need to make my current piping work with this pump? Cheers.

    Hayward Pump on/off switch broke

Great suggestion waste.....opened up the pump, hardwired the switch, put all back together and works great!!! With the mechanical timer I have inline, I really didn't need the toggle switch anyway.

    Hayward Pump on/off switch broke

We have an AG pool with a Hayward 2HP pump that has served us well. Unfortunately this year the on/off switch underneath appears to have broken off (my guess is by an over-zealous mower). What are my options here to get the thing turned on.....or should I replace the pump? Cheers. Alan

    Swim Season is here!!

Swim season was officially kicked off by the kiddo's yesterday thanks to BBB. Pool has been ready for almost 3 weeks, and the water temp hit 78F yesterday. My neighbors are still trying to schedule their pool boy to open theirs :-D

timer for pump or just manually plug/unplug?

Are you guys all mounting your timers outside near the pool? If so are you just wiring your pump plug directly to them? Trying to figure out how to wire my AGP pump into a timer.

    Low PSI on Pump

So I have to add the happy conclusion to this tale. I got a replacement pressure guage, put it on and still identical to the old one (4-5PSI). Soooooo I plug up the pool, and start pulling apart the pump. I cleaned the impellar (which appeared just fine), the filter basket, the lines etc..etc. I...

No hand grenade required, but still need some help. (leak?)

Re: Stop me from putting a hand grenade in my pool (cloudy) I had a similar issue last year and was trying to use test strips as my guage. I bit the bullet and bought the proper TF Test Kit, and sure enough I was not shocking the pool even close to the right levels. Once I had my shock levels...

    Low PSI on Pump

It does go to zero when it is off. It is a single speed pump. Last season it routinely stayed in the 12-14 PSI range on the low side after backwashing. I've read that it's possible for the filter basket to be clogged before the pump itself or for there to be a blockage there? Cheers. IrishAl

    Low PSI on Pump

My tale continues with opening the pool this weekend and as usual I'm turning to my trusty, helpful sources here. Attached is a pic that show the current PSI on the pool pump. This reading seems low to me, compared to the previous 2 years. However, the force of the water coming out of the return...

Small Leak on return on outside pool wall

Here we are and it's April and I opened the pool this weekend. Turns out I have a very small leak on the fitting where the return goes through the pool wall on our AG pool. It's about a drip every 5 secs. I really don't want to drain the water below the return to repair it, and am wondering if I...

    AG Solar Heater Recommendations

We're looking at putting in a solar heater this year for our AG 30'ft round pool. Looking for some advice on manufacturers from you guys with all the experience. We're in Oklahoma with more than 8hrs a day of full sun. We're really wanting to extend the swim season from mid Apr-Oct. Cheers. IrishAl

    When to Open for 2010

After having opened last year at the beginning of May to a green pool, we're opening this weekend here in OK. Temp is already in the 80's last couple of days! I closed last year using BBB and pool has stayed cyrstal clear all winter, and I wanna keep it that way.

to close or not to close....that is the question

I'm in Edmond, just north of OKC. Since there's nothing but a fence line between us and the north pole, the winters here can be bitterly cold and sustained. When you throw in the winds (30mph north wind is a light normal breeze), pool covers have a tendancy to get destroyed easily. I half closed...

Ph Rising after putting weights in step ladder

AAARRRRRGGGHHHH!!!! :grrrr: :grrrr: :grrrr: :grrrr: Talk about feeling like an absolute idiot!!! I read your reply and jumped up and yell "oh s$&t" and it dawned on me. Sure enough I yanked those things outa there and they were rusting pretty good. Is there anything I need to do to the...

Ph Rising after putting weights in step ladder

So this is the only thing I can tie directly to my Ph rising in the last 2 weeks. My numbers have been at or near perfect for over a month PH 7.4 TC 6 CC 0 CYA 50 TA 110 I put some old school metal barbell weights in under my steps to help hold them down about 2 weeks ago. In the last 2 weeks...

    Our project..

I completely winged it on this one. I've built a few decks before and modified this one more than once. Really all I did was build out the framing 1st to lay out my plan, then lay down the Trex (which is amazing!!). Thanks for all the nice comments. Irish.

    Pristine Blue to Chlorine

The best thing you can do is listen to the folks on this forum. I followed their instructions to the letter in converting from Pristine Blue Crud and my pool is in amazing shape. The best part is that I am in complete control of my pool and what goes in it now (usually bleach each night and kids...

    Why?

To add some $$$ numbers to this thread, and I know cost is not the main issue, but when you see the cost of BBB on paper it does stand out. Every other night when the kids are done swimming I pour 3qt of bleach into my pool. Total time spent 3-5 mins. Cost of bleach at wally world $1.52 for 3...
