    Pool pump replacement recommendations

I have put wd-40 and liquid wrench on this bugger. Pump and motor replacement is no longer an option as I already have a motor coming. May have to cut out the impeller and buy a new one but it will still be cheaper than buying a whole new setup. Since the motor is shot I may start tweaking the...

    Pool pump replacement recommendations

Yep on these challenger pumps they are on the very end. It's flat but covered a bit- so it's the part that gives first. When it does we actually twist the metal a bit. We have the torque but it isn't budging.

I am literally mis-shaping the shaft at the end of the motor. Am I missing something? Going counterclockwise. I have never had something this stubborn and I have worked with some stubborn fasteners.

Was using a channel locks and we can't seem to hold the shaft well enough. I actually think we started to torque the shaft it's on there so bad. Starting to think we are going to have to drill out the impeller. Gah! Think a small motor shop can get it free? Also what happens if the blades get...

Yeah I think it is dual voltage. I am fairly certain it is 230w. Going to buy the 230w but am getting the 1hp due to the delay in shipping. Anyone know how to surge protect so this doesn't happen again?

    Pool pump replacement recommendations

I haven't been home yet to determine the type of challenger I have yet as I am still at work but should I get the 3/4 or 1 hp motor? The 3/4 is special order at a1parts. In any case I believe everything else is in working order. Anything to check for? Do I have to buy a Controller to...

Hello all, I had my pump go out yesterday after a power outage and am going to look at it tonight to see if it is the capacitor and if I can turn the impeller easily. I am guessing my bearing are locked up though. In any case I was looking for new pumps yesterday and am overwhelmed by the...

Water Too Low for the Light?

Thanks for taking the time to post a response. I was trying to close my pool and as I was trying blowing out my pipes my power went out! Someone cut a wire someplace. Anyway, if you don't mind me asking, how many lights have you seen? Was the light that broke a rare occurance? I am wondering...

Water Too Low for the Light?

Hello everyone! I was talking to a guy at the pool store (in Denver CO) about the light in my pool. At normal water height it is 18 inches below the surface. If I take it down to 3 inches below the returns the light will be at 5 inches above water. He said when they close pools they dont...

    Closing an in ground pool

I have a few questions: 1. I only have one skimmer. So when I blow out the pipes I just stick the hose in the skimmer right? 2. So do I add the antifreeze to the returns in the pool? If so wont it spill back into the pool? 3. I have a sand filter, do I need to get anti-freeze in there too...

Adding Chlorine directly to the Skimmer Basket

What is the general stance on adding clorox directly into the skimmer basket? Good idea? Bad? My only concern would be the high levels of chlorine passing through the pipes. Any suggestions?

Thanks! Can I play around in the pool with the CYA being distributed? Why would my pH appear to be lower just because I havent been in the pool?

    Need to add pH?

Ok, so I got a new pool  and I am adding CYA to my pool. My pH used to be at 7.6 but now, after 3lbs of CYA, it looks like it is around 6.9. I am wondering if I need to highten the pH or if the CYA throws my test off. Should I wait to test for a couple of days after I am done...

New Member with a great big Thanks!!!

I found this forum after going to the pool store for my first time. I was very uneducated and they completely took advantage of me. Told me to use CH (I have a vinyl pool and told them that) gave me a bunch of shock and tablets with no plan on how to keep the chlorine in my pool and to top it...

    Raising CYA

Oh! I have another question. Is it advisable to have more than one sock in the same area? Will it be too concentrated and burn holes in my liner?!

    Raising CYA

Thanks peeps! I was going to buy the TF-100 and I did see the article. I called up the pool store and asked them if they had the TF-100 or Taylor (I made the mistake of not asking for the specific kit). They said they had taylor. So, if they have that specific kit tomorrow I will buy it out...
