Hmm. I just had the O ring replaced a month ago. Is this different? I'm just so curious as to what is causing this cloudiness. The water is not "new" per se, but refilled completely from the tap with only bleach and cya added.

- - - Updated - - - it appears that my pool pump is leaking out the backwash flow when I turn on the pump. It is just a few drips and I tried to capture it in the picture. Could that be the reason for the cloudy pool? Any suggestions on fixing it or is this normal? Time to call a pool guy?

Ok. I am going to practice patience. Sorry about the split threads - that would be my LPOP (lack of pool owner patience). I will wait a week and see if the CYA is registered and if the filter clears it up. Great suggestion for the sandpaper. The brush and acid did not seem to work.

Flow is good. The pressure is 18 psi. I will have to check the bypass valve. Sand was changed in December 2013, so I doubt it is that.

I've only added bleach and granular CYA. CC is 0. FC is holding at 5.

Ran the pool pump for about 36 hours. FC is now 5. CYA has mostly dissolved from the sock. Pool is still very blue and very cloudy and this is all brand new water, so I'm not sure what the problem is, Anything else I should test for? Should I backwash again?

Thanks for your advice. I will add the 7th cup. I had figured that I would test the CYA in a week. Anything I can do about the cloudiness in the meantime?

The target CYA is 30. Using the pool calculator it was 56 oz by volume which equals 7 cups. I went for the smaller end.

Miranda, Just thought I'd let you know I drained my pool and bought a cheap pump from Harbor Freight. It was much more economical and expelled at a safer rate than the one at Home Depot.
