    Booster Pump Recommendation

Greetings to all. I need to replace my booster pump. The person who opens/closes my pool recommended a Pentair. I researched and found the following which has great reviews: Pentair LA01N Energy Efficient Single Speed Pressure-Side Pool Cleaner Booster Pump, 3/4 Horsepower, 115/230 Volt...

Thanks Jason, I figured it was something like that.

Thanks for the responses, and yes, I was referring to pH.

    pH Testing

Hello to all. I use the Taylor K2006, but I still have the cheap OTO tester I had B/4 I got the Taylor. Regarding pH, the tests "appear" to be the same as far as matching color shade. Is it the quality of the Taylor reagents that make the difference? I'm not considering switching back, lol...

    Adding Muriatic Acid

Thanks svenpup. Regarding protocol, I was more referring to how much water vs how much acid. I just started using Mur Acid, and the few times I have used it I filled my 5G bucket about 1/3 of the way and added 48 oz of Mur Acid. Does this sound reasonable? FYI, I concur with your "extra...

    Adding Muriatic Acid

Hello to all. The "detailed study" paper regarding Muriatic Acid was very interesting. I do have a specific question of the proper way to add it to my pool. I have 2 shallow ends with wedding steps, and of course a gradual slope to the center of the deep end (appx 6 ft deep). Would my best...

    FC

Thanks Jason. Thanks SunnyOp, no such thing as "late" for me. I'm still absorbing all of this; so any info, at any time is good info for me.

    FC

Thanks. I did just come off of a SLAM and am letting the FC drop naturally (for the record it went from 15.5 to 10.5). I will keep a close eye on it since I do need to keep it btn 5-8 for my present CYA. Thanks again.

    FC

Got it Jason, thanks. So if my CYA is 70 (which it is) and I have a 5ppm FC loss (which I did), there may be a problem?
  10. L

    FC

Thanks again. Assuming CYA isn't low (below 30), would it make a difference (regarding FC loss) if the CYA were 30-50 (ideal) or 50-70 (higher)? This is assuming of course the FC level is at the appropriate number based on what the actual CYA is. Just curious; still in the learning process.

    FC

Thanks Jason. Should 5 ppm be a cause for concern, assuming zero swim load and the things you list above?
  12. L

    FC

Hello to all. Is there an "average" FC a pool should loose over the course of one day? Assuming a very light swim load (usually only 2 adults), and direct sun on the pool during daylight hours I'm just trying to gage what normal liquid chlorine additions would be over the course of a week. I...

Taking over a pool, SLAM in progress

Where are you FC-wise? You started at 100 CYA, correct? As a reminder, I am present SLAM myself, and am also learning as I go. What I do know though thru this site is you need to get your FC up to "kill mode" based on your CYA. FYI, I have been backwashing daily since I began my slam, and I...

Taking over a pool, SLAM in progress

Mine was like that too, although w/o the 6 foot radius you had, lol. Being at SLAM level I'm sure helped in that what I could not wipe up and did float away was pretty much white/dead once it got a full dose of SLAM level water! In hindsight, I should have removed the light from the get/go...

    Taylor K-2006 Test Kit

Thanks. One follow-up question, "reasonable FC level" would also apply to SLAM levels as well, or does "reasonable" have a cut-off if your SLAM level is higher due to a higher CYA?

    SLAM question regarding equipment, etc.

    Thanks just the same.

    Taylor K-2006 Test Kit

Thanks Jason. One other question, as I am still in the learning process. I read here where you can add chl not more than once per hour and not less than twice a day. The first option is best, assuming you can do that with work, kids, etc, and the second just a "will work but not as quick"...

    Taylor K-2006 Test Kit

So you're saying I should put more in now, all at once, and if so appx how much? Thanks.

    SLAM question regarding equipment, etc.

Thanks RobbieH. Am I correct that the vacuum is OK? Haven't had to yet since I have been backwashing daily, but may want to as there is a very tiny amount of dirt and a few leaves near the bottom center drain.

    Taylor K-2006 Test Kit

Thanks Abigail K and timerguy. I'm working my way up the FC ladder. As for chl bottles timerguy, I hear ya! I'm 24 of 12.5% and 7 days into it. It's amazing what an appetite algae has, and how it likes to hangout as long as possible, lol. I'll be off to the local box store later as I just...

    SLAM question regarding equipment, etc.

Is it OK to use the robot during a slam? I know a vacuum is OK, but not sure bout the robot. Also, how should stuff that is used in the pool (floats, chairs, etc.) be dealt with since they were all in the pool pre-SLAM? Going to just toss the cheaper stuff (anything foam, cheap floats), but...

Taking over a pool, SLAM in progress

Hi Aaron, and welcome. I'll tell you a few things which may make you feel a bit better; at least it works for me as it makes me realize my particular issue is an issue others are having/have had. 1) You''ll see/hear this a gazillion times on this site. The SLAM is "a process, not an event"...

    Taylor K-2006 Test Kit

Thanks Joel. I'm not quite as far along today as I thought I was yesterday, lol. Yest, my FC was 11.5 and CC was 1 (10ml Taylor test). I then hit it with a gallon around noon (12.5%), and another half-gallon around 11pm. My thinking was that I was in the "kill zone" and didn't want to get...

    Taylor K-2006 Test Kit

Dave, thanks for the info. Under normal conditions I would NEVER even consider modifying. I was just seeing if I could save some drops during this SLAM. My main concern is not even money, it's running out of the 0871 B/4 my refill gets here. Speaking of refills, I just placed my order. I...

    Taylor K-2006 Test Kit

One other question regarding reagents. I'm getting ready to order the 2oz R-0871 from the tftestkits site to ensure I don't run out during my present SLAM. I'm prob nearly thru my SLAM, and then will have appx another 6 weeks B/4 we close the pool. My Taylor K-2006 is brand new, just started...

    Taylor K-2006 Test Kit

Concur with Jason, awesome post, lol! I'm very pleased to know I'm not alone in MN regarding over-the-top humor. Will keep U posted as to which group I end up falling into. Thanx also to both of you for the inputs.

    Taylor K-2006 Test Kit

Thanks Joel. I think I'll just use 2 level to be ultra sure until I am out of "novice" status, lol. One other thing, for you or anyone. What is the quickest way to get more of the R-0871? I want to ensure I don't run out, esp during this SLAM process. Thanks.
