    Classic

It hasn't been a great summer here by any means. Today is only the second day since the end of May that we have not had torrential rain and storms. Which leads me to this post. I stopped in my local pool store today to by a new floatie to lounge in. As I walked up to the door I noticed a sign...

    New Steps

Hi everyone! I just ordered my very first set of steps for my pool. I have always just used the ladder mounted to the deck, but knee problems are making it more difficult. I ordered the Confer Curve base set. They seemed to have very good reviews. My question would be: Do any of you have these...

First ever sand filter deep clean...

As most of you know I converted from Baquacil 5 years ago and found this site. Best thing that has ever happened! I never really knew about the maintenance of a sand filter except to hook it up for the season and go. Lately I've caught up on a lot of reading here and read about deep cleaning...

    New Ladder, ughhh

So I recently purchased a new ladder for pool. It is called the Easy Incline Ladder. My old one that came with the pool kept getting algae inside and it was to heavy and hard to pull out every week to try and bleach it out. Well, we finally got around to installing the new one and it didn't sit...

Desperate timse call for desperate measures....

Hi again friends  You have probably seen my thread about my "dust" problem. Now that I have pulled the ladder out and got that all straightened out, I do have a question. I ordered a new ladder but it won't be here for a couple of more days. It was really time for a new one anyway. It is...

    Invisible algae?

Hi all! I have been following the Slam method since converting my pool from baquacil to chlorine This is my 4th summer using chlorine.. I have never had to slam except upon opening until tonight. The water has been crystal clear and I have never let my chlorine levels fall below the min. levels...

    Opened pool this afternoon...

Water is crystal clear, very little debris, just mostly dirt on bottom. I am adding about 4-5 inches of water to get the pump started. As soon as I got the cover off, it started to downpour and we're under severe storm watches until late tonight...Just my luck..haha. Happy Pool Season...

Am in need of a large dose of POP

I just went through my 2nd new liner install in less than a month. The first new liner had a hole in the seam and they had to replace it after less than 2 weeks. They had me fill the pool halfway (took about 16 hours) and they came back sometime late in the afternoon the next day and cut the...

    About ready to give up!...............UPDATE!

Just had a new liner installed last Thursday. Haven't been able to use the pool much because of heavy rains and thunderstorms. So, got a break in the weather today and I'm just going to float around, when I notice the ground is really wet in one area. At first I thought it was because all of...

Having an issue with a new fill...

I had a new liner installed last Thursday, by Friday I had the pool filled and started the balancing procedures. I have all the numbers in line except maybe the cya. I put enough in to get to 50, but even today it is still only reading abou 35-ish. So I will deal with that. The problem I am...

    New liner and fill tomorrow

I have been coming here for about 3 years, ever since doing my baq conversion. Been great advice all around. I just tested my tap water to kind of see where it stands, so I will know how much to add of everything. FC 0 Ph 7.2 Ta 50 CYA 0 So, I know I want to hang around 4 1/2 pounds of cya...

    Removing rails

I have to get a new liner due to a tear in mine. It will be installed Tuesday weather permitting. The dealer doing my replacement said the only thing I need to do is drain the pool (no problem half the water is gone anyway) and remove the rails. He will do everything else. Sounds simple enough...

    GRRRRRR!!! Can't win for losing...

I finally get all my chemicals perfectly balanced and what happens you ask?......Well let me tell ya. I noticed the water was a little low the other day, so I added some, because it has been extremely hot, with very little rain, I never gave it a second thought. I added water again last night...

    chlorine drop

Hi everyone. I have a question I hope one of you can help me with. I am very diligent about dosing my pool eveynight and have never let the chlorine drop below the recommended level for my cya, which ranges about 40-45. I tested this morning and it was about 5.5, so I bumped it up to 7.5 this...

    Ph and TA

I finally got my ph in check, it has been high since the pool opening, it is around 7.5 now. My TA has always been about 110, but when I opened this year it was extremely low. I got it back up to 110. But now that my ph is where it needs to be, the TA has crept up to about 150, is this normal...

    And the cleanup begins......

My perfectly clear, sparkily water is no more :x ... We had major storms blow through last night like I have NEVER seen in this area before. I guess it was almost like a tornado, it may well have been, just read the Gov. declared a state of emergency. Not being used to tornado activity I was...

    Need your expertise...

I opened and balanced this spring without a problem, but things are driving me crazy right now. I have added enough cya, about 2 weeks ago, to get to 50 (or so I thought), but when I tested today it was only ready 35. I tested last night and my other numbers were: FC 5.5 CC 0 TC 5.5 ph 7.5...

    Stabalizer question..

I have added stabablizer twice to bump it up so far this season. The first reading at opening was around thirty, so I bumped it up to get it to about 40. Waited a week , reading was still 30, so I added more to get it back up to 40, same thing, waited a week and still getting about a 30...

    Filter pressure..

Hi all. I have a question. I went out to add chlorine and tighten up a small leak and noticed my pressure gauge is only reading about 4, it usually reads about 16. So, I walked up on the deck and the water flow coming out of the return is perfectly normal. Is this a broken gauge or possibly...

    strong storms

We have been experiencing strong, severe storms during the evenings and nights. As a result I have been fishing out the few helicoptor thingy and leaves that get blown in. I'm still trying to regulate my cya due to draining the pool to halfway down the skimmer daily due to all the rain. It...

hmmmm, trying to get the cya right

When I opened my pool last week, I scrubbed it up, schocked and balanced everything. My cya was reading really low for some reason (20 or less), so I added enough stabalizer to get it to around 40-45, didn't want to overshoot. I was out of reagent, so I went ahead and ordered more. Over the...

    grrrrr...Did I mess up?

Hi everyone  I have maintained a "sparkly" pool since my baq conversion last summer and all my numbers have stayed in check until recently. They weren't horrible , but I noticed my TA had fallen to about 80 and I always kept it at about the 110 range. So I used the pool calculator and...

    return flow

Does my return eyeball need to be pointed away from the skimmer to push the water around pool or towards the skimmer? I have read conflicting reports, and I'm not sure. Thanks!

opening pool for the first time since conversion

I pulled the cover of yesterday, the water was clear, but the bottom of th pool is covered in dirt. I'm guessing it's just dirt. I have wanda the whale in there cleaning it up. using a lot of chlorine during the day

Hi everyone. My pool has never looked better since my conversion, but I seem to be using an awful lot of bleach to keep my levels up. I did the overnight test and everything was fine, but seem to lose about 4 ppm's during the day when it's sunny. This is requiring me to use about 3 quarts of...

    solar cover and return

Since finishing my conversion I have been faithful about adding my chlorine every night. I was bumping it up everynight to 7 or 8 just so I could stay around 5 ppm's during the day. It held fine when the weather was cloudy, but since the sun has been out, not so much. I did my weekly test...
