Saltwater woes!!! Newbie trying to figure this out. Please advise.

Yes...we are targeting 70 due to where we live...I have been diligent about testing chlorine and the water is SOOOO CRYSTAL CLEAR!!!!! It hasn't been this way all season. I am so psyched! We are now at a level of 4 for the chlorine. I will test CYA and pH this weekend. Depending on what I...

Saltwater woes!!! Newbie trying to figure this out. Please advise.

YAY!!!!! We passed an OCLT! And our CC is still under 0.5, and the water is much clearer. However, I feel like this is like the CYA test in that it is rather subjective. How clear is clear? If I drop a quarter in the pool, I can see it about two feet from the side of the pool all the way to...

Saltwater woes!!! Newbie trying to figure this out. Please advise.

Thanks. I tested my CYA level today just for kicks to see how the levels change...am learning. I did add granular, but added it through a clean white sock and massaged sock until it dissolved. Actually my CYA level dropped from yesterday...so we'll see how it changes over the week. My FC...

    Chlorine/CYA chart with more options?

Cool! Thanks guys!!! Guess I should have guessed that...my SWG is off now anyway during the SLAM process...it was a little confusing, but will treat it as a chlorine pool, but the other link says 40% of CYA value...that is good to know as well. Easier for me to do that. My CYA level today is...

    Chlorine/CYA chart with more options?

Do you have a chart for Chlorine/CYA levels for slamming purposes for a SWG pool that show the CYA level under 60? The chart for a SWG shows 60, 70, and 80. What if your levels are lower? How do you calculate what your SLAM levels should be if your CYA level is lower? Thanks in advance. (I...

Saltwater woes!!! Newbie trying to figure this out. Please advise.

O crud....I just added some stabilizer last night. sigh... alright, well, I am using the TF-100 kit. Last night my CYA was 0. I could see the black dot and filled the cylinder completely. So, my shock level is 10 ppm. I am only at 6. So, I added more chlorine. A 10% solution....1 gallon...

Oh, and another question...I went to a pool supply place in town to buy a higher concentration of chlorine, and he said that I should turn the SWG back on (it has been off during the SLAM process) because it takes four days for the system to actually be able to produce the chlorine. Is he...

Saltwater woes!!! Newbie trying to figure this out. Please advise.

OK! I got my testing kit and found that my CYA is 0-20. So, my slam level needs to be 10 ppm. I tested the chlorine and the free chlorine is 6 ppm (after adding 10 jugs of concentrated---8%---bleach from Wal-mart) and 2.5 gallons of 11% chlorine. So, it still isn't high enough...good news is...

Saltwater woes!!! Newbie trying to figure this out. Please advise.

First, let me say thanks. I should have done that in the previous post. I appreciate your help and advice in this matter. I did read through everything that you suggested. I read the ABC's to water chemistry, the SLAM process, and looked at the test kits (pretty expensive). I also looked at...

Saltwater woes!!! Newbie trying to figure this out. Please advise.

I am using "My Salt Pool" saltwater balance test strips bought at Wal-mart (I know...but it is what I can afford) and have tested everyday. Today's results are: Total hardness, B-100 low; Total chlorine, A-0 very low; Free chlorine, A-0 very low; PH, B-7.2 ok; Total Alkalinity, C-120 ok/low...

Saltwater woes!!! Newbie trying to figure this out. Please advise.

Hello! I am new to the saltwater system. It is my understanding that electricity is used to produce chlorine ions using copper and titanium plates. I just bought a new saltwater/sand filter pump and it isn't producing any chlorine!!!!! My brother said that he thinks it is set up backwards...
