Need some advice. Had a 75 year concrete pool / concrete pool deck renovated late last fall and in final stages of clean up now. Only thing done to the actual pool was I had old tile removed, new tile installed and pool repainted. Here are some pics of the new pool tile that was installed. I...

    Refurbish Old Pool Tile Waterline

If you mean the plaster below the tiles, yes. I do not want to disturb that at all. If you mean behind the tiles, not sure if there was any plaster, but I assume there will be some collateral damage behind.

    Refurbish Old Pool Tile Waterline

TFP, This spring I am continuing my journey of refurbishing a 75 year old IG concrete pool with a concrete pool deck that is approximately 50 - 55 years old. I plan to have the concrete pool deck redone sometime this summer. I have not contracted anyone yet, but working with a few estimates...

    New Pool Coping Question

OK, thanks PoolguyinCT. So will I have to level the pool wall top before installing the new pool coping then? I am not sure how thick the pool wall is (can't tell from my pic of the piece that had fallen off last year). To fix that piece, I simply put some mortar on the bottom of the piece...

    New Pool Coping Question

OK, thanks. I have tiles that go around and also need to be replaced. You can see a good shot of the pool deck after a section of it fell off last summer. I also had refinished it with epoxy pool paint this past year. If you zoom in on the picture, you can get a good view of the pool deck...

    New Pool Coping Question

OK - so to be clear then, for a concrete pool, the pool coping should be mortared directly onto the top of the pool wall, correct? So assuming this was done 50 some years ago, does that mean that once the existing concrete pool deck is removed, I can potentially have damage done to the top of...

    New Pool Coping Question

Thanks Allen. Right, I am aware of the expansion joint and the backer rod foam that goes under the joint sealant. What I am referring to is under the coping itself. Is the coping supposed to be mortared to the top of the pool wall or is it supposed to float on some material of some sort? So...

    New Pool Coping Question

I have a 75 year old IG pool that has a concrete pool deck about 50 years old that is in sad shape and desperately needs to be replaced. Going to have a pool concrete guy install the pool deck. However, the existing pool deck had a pour straight up to the edge of the pool. Throughout the...

    And we have tile!

Tiles look nice! Did you install these and the coping yourself? What is the coping - standard concrete brick just angle cut? Thanks, Kevin

    HELP!! Repainting and cracks!

Thanks PoolDV for the reply. However, the problem is I cannot finish painting without patching the cracks because the water trickles will mess the paint up. Furthermore, I only have a coat of primer down so it is half a white pool right now. Regarding the plaster, it had been previously...

    Applying for Permit (Owner Build)

In Milwaukee, WI where I live, the suburb that I am in requires licensed contractors to pull most permits. I already have a pool, but want to renovate the whole pool area and want to do much if it myself, minus some of the plumbing and electrical. Any suggestions on how to get around that?

Need Pool Deck Renovation Advice - Milwaukee, WI

Hello everyone. I was wondering if I could get some advice. We recently moved into a 70+ year old home with a pool that was original to the house. The pool deck has been redone since it was built, but I am guessing between 20 - 30 years old. Pool is in good shape (other than it needs to be...
