Should I upgrade my ancient equipment?

Thanks! Maybe I will benefit from holding off for a few weeks before ordering then.

Should I upgrade my ancient equipment?

Not sure what in that can be automated other than perhaps feeding the Polaris. Anyways, I was looking at RJ60Plus for the SWG - Is $1,689.00 a good price for it? Any recommendations for the VSP?

Should I upgrade my ancient equipment?

I have 3 water jets that arc up into the air and the Polaris. I do have a single multi-color LED light, but that is it. I have two 3 way valves with the first one directing between the Polaris and the rest. The next valve takes the rest and splits it between the returns and the water jets.

Should I upgrade my ancient equipment?

I live in Northern California (SF Bay Area) and have an approx 30000 gal pool. It has very little automation, a 120V fixed speed pump, a DE filter (Hayward 4820), a Polaris 360 and a push-pull valve. All the equipment is either ancient or merely very old. I will keep the Polaris since there...

    Pressure wash paint off?

Thanks. I have an electric pressure washer which I am not even sure will hit the 1000 psi mark. I will post some pictures that show the peeling paint as soon as I can. I don't think the previous owner did any acid washes since I don't see any signs of pitting or rough plaster. Will doing an acid...

    Pressure wash paint off?

Hello: I am getting ready to get the pool going again after letting it go over the past 6 months due to various issues. I have drained the water and am cleaning out the debris now. I noticed that there are paint flakes coming off the plaster surface. In some places, there are large flakes and...

Changed the title... I used the Marlig Fix A Leak product and I must say that I am very impressed with it so far. It took a couple of days for me to confirm that it worked, but so far it has been holding steady and the water level is no longer dropping. I hope it continues to hold. Now that I...

Re: New owner of neglected pool No, no luck so far. Thanks for following my journey and keeping tabs. I have let the pool level drop and it has gone down by about 5" in the last few days. I am guessing I am losing about 1.5 - 2" per day. The forum archives suggest that the product "Fix A...

Re: New owner of neglected pool Another problem - I thought that I should get the main drain blockage addressed and used a snake to try to poke a hole. However, this has apparently succeeded in poking a hole, but in the wrong place and has caused a leak. :grrrr: I should have left it well...

Re: New owner of neglected pool LOL :D There is still a lot debris settling at the bottom of the pool when I don't brush it for several hours. When I get the Polaris 360 going again, I think it should clear up quicker. The Polaris had been left out in the backyard for several years and all...

Re: New owner of neglected pool Made a tremendous amount of progress. The shallow end is very clear, but the deep end still has just a little bit of murkiness. I can, however, clearly see the main drain at the deep end of the pool. I can also see a coin dropped in the deep end, though there is...

Re: New owner of neglected pool Update: I went ahead and dismantled the motor. The front and rear covers of the motor are connected together by four through bolts. Despite using WD-40 and oils, I could not remove those bolts cleanly. Only one bolt unscrewed and the other three broke. At least...

Re: New owner of neglected pool Now that I have a bit of down time, I think I will try to carefully measure the pool and calculate the volume. Thanks. I will do that until I get the pump going again. I was noodling around on the web and found links telling me that my Sta-rite Dyna-Glas...

Re: New owner of neglected pool Just as I was thinking that I was on the right track to getting the pool usable, I got into another crisis. I had replaced the seals on the pump and it worked fine for a few days. But this evening, the pump motor crapped out after making weird noises. Aaarrrgh...

Re: New owner of neglected pool I came home from work after a very sunny day to find my FC at 5.5. I added a single 1lb bag of 56% cal hypo to find that the FC went up to 9.5ppm. That should happen only with a pool volume of 15k gallons according to the instructions on the bag and also...

Re: New owner of neglected pool Readings this morning after leaving the pool turned off overnight: FC: 16 CC: 1.5 I took that pH reading before beginning the Slam when the FC was around 3. Now that I have begun the slam, I am no longer doing the pH test and am relying on the FAS-DPD test...

Re: New owner of neglected pool Just began the SLAM tonight at 7:00pm. The pre-Slam readings were: pH 7.4 TC 3ppm FC 2 CC 1 CYA ~15 (not been a week since I added 4lbs. Will add a couple more lbs soon.) I added 4lbs of 56% Cal Hypo which brought the readings to: FC 19 (wanted a target of...

Re: New owner of neglected pool Thanks! I take it that the brush I showed in post #4 of this thread is a nylon only brush and needs to be replaced by a combo brush, right? The plaster is probably decades old. The worse part is that it is flaking off. I can find bits of blue stuff in the pump...

Re: New owner of neglected pool Latest update: I got the pump rebuild kit and did the pump repair over a couple of days. I had to put in a new plastic conduit since the old one was basically broken. The pool pump repair is a good news/bad news scenario. Isn't it always? I turned the pump on...

Re: New owner of neglected pool Got the test kit this afternoon and ran the tests. I am not sure if I am doing it right. The OTO test gave no results and the pH test did not change color at all. I don't think I did the FAS-DPD test right either. I added two scoops of R-0870 after which it...

Re: New owner of neglected pool 7/14 Morning: I left the pump running overnight for the first time with some bad results. 1. There were air bubbles in the return line and the water force was quite wimpy. Based on searching the forum archives, it looks like I have a suction side airleak. I...

Re: New owner of neglected pool Update on 7/13: I still don't have the test kit yet, so I am working on the equipment. In the meantime, the water is turning a light green. Hopefully, I will have a lighter blue pool by next weekend. My pump works mostly. I do see a trickle of water leaking...

Re: New owner of neglected pool Yes, I understand that. It is just that right now the filter has no DE at all and is clean as a whistle. When I tested the pump for a few mins, it probably pumped in quite a bit of cruddy, filthy water leftover in the piping/equipment for years into the filter...

Re: New owner of neglected pool OK, I will do that. I started the pump yesterday after scooping out as much of the muck from it as possible. Upon starting, it actually sucked out all the water from the skimmer due to the relatively low water level and lost the priming. That is good news...

Re: New owner of neglected pool Tell me about it. Everything is expensive here. I will want to, if the pump works, use the pump for at least a couple of months and then consider upgrading to a VS pump. I am hoping to sell my old home by then and get some money back in the kitty to be able to...

    Neglected pool almost fully resurrected

Hi all: I am a newbie to pools who just moved into an old house with an old neglected pool with all its equipment. The pool is approx 40x20 which the calculators tell me is around 30k gallons. The previous owner told us that the pool pump has not run in 5+ years. We had to fill the pool as part...
