    Questions about replacing pump

I just ordered from poolwharehouse.net last night. I got the whisperflow 2 speed up-rated 1.5 HP (WFDS-26) for $535 + $8 handling. I'll post back here when I get it. They have the up-rated 1.5 HP and the full rated 1 HP (WFDS-4), but the full rated 1HP is about $100 more. From what I read...

    Questions about replacing pump

Reading more about the multi-speed pumps and it sounds like they really can be a significant cost savings in the long run. The whisperflo 1HP two speed you mentioned looks like a pretty good option. I was looking at the 1 HP intelliflow also, but I don't know if I can justify spending over...

    Questions about replacing pump

Is it pretty easy to replace a pool pump yourself. I'm fairly handy, and it looks as easy as disconnecting/reconnecting the two plumbing connections, and wiring the new pump in. I can handle that, but I want to make sure I'm not overlooking something. The outside is pretty rusted up so I...

What do you do with all the bleach bottles?

Trash, recycle? Has anyone figured out something useful or creative to do with them?

need help finding suction side leak

I've been running the pump 24/7 while I'm trying to clean up the pool, but I'm sure your right about the pump basket losing water if I left it turned off long enough.

new pool owner - my plan to kill the algae

Any reason the pool store's number for the CYA would be way off? I got my test kit last night and tested my first samples this morning. FC - 12 CC - 0 CYA - 80 I thought it was odd that the pool store said my CYA had dropped from 74 to 24 in a week when I hadn't drained that much water...

need help finding suction side leak

I've already replaced the o-ring on the pump basket lid and drain plug, and greased both of them. I've tried pouring water over the different joints b/n the ground and the filter and haven't been able to tell a difference. When the pump is running it holds prime and I don't really see any air...

new pool owner - my plan to kill the algae

Still waiting on my test kit, so I took a water sample in to the pool store today. The pool is looking a lot better, but still not close to clear. I can see the bottom in the shallow end although it's pretty cloudy, but the deep end is still pretty dark. Here's my numbers FC 10 CC 0 TC 10 TA...

    outdoor audio question

I have the wireless network - G right now, but will probably upgrade to N soon. I'm most interested in something that will stream mp3s from my pc/network. I currently have all my mp3s on a NAS. I could do the laptop thing, but I'd rather have a stand alone device. I like the squeezebox...

    outdoor audio question

I just moved into new house with my first inground pool. I have a pair of Bose outdoor speakers from my previous house that I want to hook up out there. I had them hooked up to zone2 on my receiver before, but I'm looking for a better way to do it. What I would really like is a small player...

blowing the lid off the skimmer

When the pump has been running in filter mode for awhile and I turn the motor off, there is a big rush of water and it gushes back out through the skimmer. Strong enough to pop the lid off. I've been running the filter for about a week now, and it just started doing it today. The filter...

new pool owner - my plan to kill the algae

I got the pH up yesterday and I've been dumping jug after jug of bleach in it today. I've scrubbed and vacuumed several times in between. I vacuum to waste each time and then add more water, so hopefully the cya is slowly coming down. The water looks WAY better this evening. I can actually...

new pool owner - my plan to kill the algae

How long should it take for the Borax to start impacting the pH level? How often should I be testing while I'm trying to bring the level up?

Lets hear your pool critter stories.

Wouldn't that be sinking on the bottom of the pool? I'm pretty new to having a pool, but so far in the process of getting it opened I've had 1 dead mouse, 1 dead mole, 1 live snake, and a TON of spiders. Should be a fun summer!

new pool owner - my plan to kill the algae

The test results are on a print out from the pool store. Maybe the TA is really supposed to be 26? It's definitely a negative in front of it and not just a dash though, so who knows. Definitely low either way. When you all say the pH is dangerously low, what does that really mean? Obviously...

new pool owner - my plan to kill the algae

Thanks for the quick replies. I was hoping the baking soda would bring the pH up too, but I'll run and pick up some Borax. I'll drain off some of the water this morning and refill, then work on the pH and TA. Then I'll plan on attacking with chlorine probably tomorrow.

new pool owner - my plan to kill the algae

I found this forum yesterday while looking for advice on how to clear up my swamp. At first it just made me upset because I realized how much money I've wasted at the pool store the last couple weeks, but after reading through the Pool School and the post about getting rid of algae I feel like...
