What is 'standard' prep for replastering?

Wow thanks for the input! OK, fruit trees are out. See what you can learn from others' wisdom? We were considering citrus trees specifically. Thank you for the link to Signature Gardens, Golderdog. I would love variety. Variety in color, blooming times, textures, heights, I love it all - not a...

What is 'standard' prep for replastering?

Thanks for the links! I will dig around there. Pardon the pun. :) Here are some photos. This first one is the house when we moved in. I don't know who thought Crape Myrtles around a pool was a good idea. Here are a few photos of the backyard as it is now. This is a shot of the back of the...

What is 'standard' prep for replastering?

Patrick_B, yes I will be managing the chemicals myself. This forum saved me when we first moved in and I had no clue about pool chemistry. Our pool guy is babysitting it for now while the plaster is releasing pH, once it is totally cured and ready to go, I'll take over. He has been fantastic and...

What is 'standard' prep for replastering?

Golderdog - would love to hear your landscaping suggestions! I'll post photos of the yard and patio we just built. Great potential - but pricey! :)

What is 'standard' prep for replastering?

I think that's what we're going to do. Live with it for now and replace these tiles the next time we drain. I am one of those who can't stand to look at it, haha.

    Drop-In Mosaics?

Anyone used these before? Considering getting one for our pool. http://www.amazon.com/Large-Compass-Swimming-Art-Mosiac/dp/B003VI0SC8/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1426626698&sr=8-6&keywords=drop+in+pool+mosaic

What is 'standard' prep for replastering?

*sigh* well, the replastering is done. i thought y'all would like to see what our work crew considered good craftsmanship when it came to replacing our accent tiles. The plastering itself looks great - but this is such a disappointment. This is a shot of two of the accent tile groupings on the...

What is 'standard' prep for replastering?

Thanks for all the replies. Patrick_B, you're right, this should have been very clearly spelled out in the bid. When the sales guy was here, he told us verbally they would scrape off all plaster, although not necessarily to the gunite unless it was necessary (per the cracks on the bottom). When...

What is 'standard' prep for replastering?

We would too, especially considering that there are a couple surface cracks at the bottom that we wanted out - and we were told that they would scrape down to the bottom of them to be sure there was nothing going on underneath. The pool isn't losing water so I don't think they're anything, but...

What is 'standard' prep for replastering?

We are replastering our pool... the guys came to do the prep work today. We were expecting to see a pool with the old plaster scraped off. They scraped it off down about 6 inches from the coping tile, and 'roughed up' the rest of the surface and then put on the bonding agent. They went over the...

I need to drain - but where?

If you spent the day out at the pool, you're a lucky man. I just came in myself. :) I did a shock with Oxy-Brite so we could enjoy the pool this afternoon. :) Will be draining this evening. The pump is level to the pool, a ways out and around the corner of the house. It'll be a long night with...

I need to drain - but where?

SUCCESS! Many thanks for the help. I drained to the bottom of the coping tile, filled up about halfway and put in some Oxy-Brite so the kids could swim, and then I guess it's a late-night drain and refill project to get the CYA out. Wish me luck!

I need to drain - but where?

To answer your questions, Divin Dave, I am quite sure I did not unscrew the lock knob on top of the valve, as I did not know there was one. This is how much of a beginner I am. I have NO IDEA what I am doing. I want to call a pool guy, husband says no, I can learn this on my own. I have no...

I need to drain - but where?

I apologize in advance for the idiotic question. Here is my filter. It's a Pentair S7M120. I need to drain my pool to lower CYA. However, the valve that I thought was the one to use doesn't want to turn. Is this my drain valve? (In the lower front of the photo) It's labeled "Waste". On the...

duraleigh, another question: you mention raising the chlorine to 10 ppm. is that to shock it, or to remove the staining? thanks again!

Just getting started - brown markings on tile

Thanks for the replies. A couple follow-up questions: 1) I think I've accepted that I'm going to have to replace the water. I have a plaster pool. I can't drain below the coping tiles, is that correct? (See what a newbie I am??) 2) Once we get the Chlorine/CYA under control, will I be able to...

Just getting started - brown markings on tile

Hi everyone! I joined you a couple weeks ago and haven't posted yet. I'm completely overwhelmed trying to learn all there is to learn about my pool. We noticed today on the tile grout that there is something brownish (see photo). We have always had some buildup that I am working on removing...
