    Pentair Dual-Speed 340042 Died

I pulled the pump and checked the switches and relays, all seem to be functional. So I just went ahead and ordered a new pump. Should be here on Friday.

    Pentair Dual-Speed 340042 Died

Switch in the back. It was running fine on low, but after I turned it off and flipped the switch to high to run the crawly it wouldn't turn on. I am wondering if the relay blew but I am not too keen on ordering a $180 part for it that might not fix the problem.

    Pentair Dual-Speed 340042 Died

My Pentair 340042 was running fine yesterday in low power mode however when I switched it to High it simply died. No noises..nothing. Went out today and bought a new capacitor for it (thinking that was the most likely cause) but replacing that didn't help. Tested the wiring and there is...

    Constant Sand Problem

Have you looked at the multiport valve to the sand filter? If there is a leak or crack inside it could be diverting some of the water irregularly and causing some sand to get sent back out in the return water as well as explaining the water coming from the backwash pipe.

    2 speed pump question

I used to have similar issues with my old pump/sand filter combination... Dirty water returning, couldn't get the water crystal clear, dirt/sediment that would collect on the bottom of the pool, etc. Then I switched to a two speed pump a couple of weeks ago and started letting it filter the...

    Time for a new pump..

New pump is a dream and running it on low seems to promote MUCH better filtration over the single speed pump. Since it was over two weeks without a pump, the pool turned back into a green swamp. Last time that happened (a couple of years ago) it took me four weeks to get the water clear...

    Time for a new pump..

Couple of days ago I ran across a Pentair 340043 Superflo 2 speed pump as a deal on Amazon for $312 so I just grabbed that. Only odd thing was that it came with the standard 1 speed back plate installed (no "hi/lo" switch) but with the switch plate (and attached wiring) in a separate parts...

    Time for a new pump..

Setup came with the house. Not a surprise that it is odd though, a lot of other stuff here is as well. I think the previous owner thought of himself as being "handy" and put in a lot of these things on his own. Half the wiring in the house was originally running through one GFI circuit. Took...

    Time for a new pump..

3/4 HP booster pump. It's plumbed so that I can bypass it or divert the line it is on either to the spa or to the output in the pool that the Polaris connects to. But I also have a blower too... never use the thing.

    Time for a new pump..

We don't use the spa often but I have a booster for it for when we do. Without the booster the spa is "okay", with it turned on it's like sitting in a blender on "Puree".

Found my air leak. Now I need to know, fix or replace the pump

If the gasket has blown and let water back into the motor then you may also be looking at bearing issues with the motor further down the line as well.

    Time for a new pump..

From the noises it was making it sounds like both the impeller and the motor bearings are shot. Plus, the pump is in an awkward location with the motor barely an inch away from our neighbor's fence so there is really no way to change out the motor without removing the whole pump assembly and...

    Time for a new pump..

So my Pentair Whisperflow-26 died and I am shopping for a new pump. looking for some opinions on what 2-speed pumps would work well with the filter and 2" lines that I already have.

10 years into it, and just now trying TFP Method to fix the swamp

Day 27 Water is now clear enough to at least see a quarter on the bottom of the deep end of the pool. Staining in the plaster though is everywhere and obvious. FC levels over 30 haven't done much of anything to them so I am probably stuck looking at them until we end up remodeling the...

10 years into it, and just now trying TFP Method to fix the swamp

It is definitely better than on Day one.. That is for sure! Going to vacuum the bottom again tonight and then add more cellulose to the filter when I get up in the morning to see if that helps the clarity issues.

10 years into it, and just now trying TFP Method to fix the swamp

Day 24 Continually adding cellulose to the filter then backwashing it after a few hours has improved clarity further. The shallows are now mostly clear and the floor of the deepest parts of the pool can now be seen without effort (but still not crystal clear). FC has been dropping by just...

10 years into it, and just now trying TFP Method to fix the swamp

Day 23 Overall clarity is still improving slowly. We can now see the faint outline of where the main drain is in the deepest part of the pool. Unfortunately this means that the staining is becoming more obvious as well. I tried placing a half dozen vitamin C tablets onto one of the stains...

10 years into it, and just now trying TFP Method to fix the swamp

Water table is way too high here to safely try that. Unfortunately, I spent 10 minutes scrubbing the H#ll out of a one square foot section of stained plaster on Saturday (the section where the six pucks are now currently sitting) with my stainless brush while keeping the FC at 30% above what...

10 years into it, and just now trying TFP Method to fix the swamp

Day 22 As you can see, visibility has improved over the past three days (still cloudy but can now barely see the bottom of the pool to at least the 5 foot mark) however that improved visibility has revealed massive staining to the plaster on the floor of the pool where all of the dead...

10 years into it, and just now trying TFP Method to fix the swamp

30 year old pool/plaster. Using a stainless steel algae brush (because nylon wouldn't do anything to help with this). The stains were not present in the pool 12-18 months ago before I let it go to Heck and are only present where large piles of dead leaves were present on the bottom of the pool...

10 years into it, and just now trying TFP Method to fix the swamp

Well I hope that someone here has a solution because as the water continues to clear and I can see into the deeper section it is becoming obvious that this problem is present all over the bottom of the pool. From what I can tell from today's puck placement, it looks like it takes 6+ hours...

Any way to bring water temps back down?

Aeration at night. Basically set up a line from one of more returns that comes up out of the water and sprays the return water back into your pool. Kind of like a showerhead.

10 years into it, and just now trying TFP Method to fix the swamp

Well, good news and bad news. Good news is that the stains do seem to be organic. Bad news is that they are very resistant to chlorine. I placed the puck onto the stain yesterday and when I checked under it after an hour there was no change in the appearance of the stain. Even scrubbing the...

10 years into it, and just now trying TFP Method to fix the swamp

Bad news. As the water is slowly clearing I can see that the staining is far, far more extensive on the bottom of the pool than I had originally thought. Here is a (contrast enhanced) picture of the visible part of the shallow end which can be seen. Raising the chlorine level up above shock...

10 years into it, and just now trying TFP Method to fix the swamp

I Have been brushing the pool daily. Problem is that the chlorine wasn't high enough to kill mustard algae and I couldn't see the patch/stain under the cloudy water to know that it was there. Have a light, took it out and pressure washed the interior housing, don't have a ladder. Once the...

10 years into it, and just now trying TFP Method to fix the swamp

I think the trouble has finally made itself known. I had to backwash the filter again this evening and the combination of the water clearing just a bit more plus the lack of glare on the surface of the pool allowed me to see what appeared to be some "dark shadows" on the floor of the shallow...

10 years into it, and just now trying TFP Method to fix the swamp

Day 19 Still very little improvement over yesterday which means there is no chance of being able to swim over the holiday weekend. :( Backwashed the filter yesterday night after pressure was up by 50% over the starting point and had to do the same again this morning. That means it has had...

10 years into it, and just now trying TFP Method to fix the swamp

I agree. Just goes to show how much stuff there is in the water that needs to be removed. I just backwashed it again a few minutes ago and added in another dose of cellulose. (I've gone through almost the whole bag now)

10 years into it, and just now trying TFP Method to fix the swamp

Day 18 Again, just a small improvement over yesterday. Had to backwash the filter three times in the last 24 hours so I am hoping that things will speed up a bit soon.
