    How long to SLAM?

Hey all, we are on our third summer with our pool. I am usually the one taking care of the pool, but last summer I was pregnant with, then gave birth to twins, so my husband was in charge of the pool. Needless to say he didn't test it or put chemicals in it once all summer, so the pool sat and...

So I put in the 27oz of MA that pool math told me a little over an hour ago and just retested. First off, before I give you the results, I gotta say, when I tested this morning I did the chlorine test wrong, I saw what I thought was 18 and put half of that for the 9, turns out that was 1.8 so I...

Ok, I've already put in as much money in chemicals as I spent on the pool from bad advice and the pool store is 45 miles away so if I can get away with letting the chlorine tab put in all my CYA for now is like to.

No I didn't add CYA, I didn't test for it the first time I tested, but when they tested it at Leslies he got 20. I tested it again this morning but my kit only goes down to 30 so if it was lower than that I won't know. I never added anything but MA, baking soda and liquid chlorine and the...

I did put algae guard in, but that was before I dumped the whole pool and refilled it. So basically all I need to keep on hand is MA, baking soda and Chlorine? I had another question but I just forgot what it was, haha, I guess I'll remember it later!

Ok, I actually picked up a notebook yesterday and have been writing all my results, when I test, what and when I add something etc! I didnt think the CH mattered with my pool but the guy at the store gave me some CHplus for free so I just took it. What about the copper and phosphorus, is that...

Ok, awesome!! I will lower that pH now, and hopefully after a day of yard work, be ready to jump in later! I was planning on doing all of my daily testing in the evening, adding what i need to add then running the filter for the 6hrs or so. If I do that, we'll I need to test again in the...

My water clarity is great, we ended up dumping, leveling and refilling the pool so it's full of fresh water. When the sun his it is definitely sparkling. I only SLAMmed it because it had sat for 3 or 4 days with nothing in it but the MA before we dumped it. My pH test goes up to 8.0 and it was a...

This is the first nice day in a week so I'm hoping we will be able to get in and swim today, do I need to wait till FC lowers to 4 or is it ok to get in where it's at?

It's been 12 hrs since I started SLAMing. I just went out and tested with strips and with the kit. With the strips I got: FC: 10/20 pH: 8.4-9 TA: 120 CYA: 20-30 When I tested with the kit I got: FC: between 5-7.5 closer to 7.5 TC: same as FC CC: 0 pH: darker than 8 TA: switched from blue to pink...

Yeah, I was gonna keep pH at 7.2, but I just left it at 7.4. I added the 107 oz of baking soda, stirred it around, waited about an hour and added the 95 oz of liquid chlorine to get to 10ppm. Since CYA was somehow already at 20 I just put a chlorine tablet in the floatie. I checked FC and It got...

While I was out I had my water tested at leslies, just to double check what I got. I just got home and retested, here's my results: FC: 0 haven't had a chance to add any yet pH: 7.4 TA: 40 CH: 120 CYA: 20 (haven't added anything so not sure how that came up, but my test and Leslies came up with...

I added the 9oz of MA, I was gonna check when I get home. Should I SLAM the pool? And I'm not really understanding what your saying about the cya, should I put a chlorine tablet in, will it put cya in quick enough?

Ok test results are: FC: 0 haven't added yet pH: +8 was darker purple than 8 on the test bottle TA: 50 CYA: 0 havent added yet. Pool math says add 9oz MA to reduce pH add 70oz baking soda to raise TA. I am going to add 9oz of MA then let the filter run while I'm doing some running around...

My next question was gonna be, after I get it balanced should I SLAM it since it was sitting for a week and sat for a day in the sun empty with a little water in the bottom? Also, how quickly does the chlorine tabs, add CYA, is it possible for me to just use those to get the CYA where it should...

So we drained the pool on Thursday, and I reread the entirety of pool school while I was waiting! We worked all night last night leveling it out, and have had the hose in there, filling it up all night. It's got about another foot to go till it's full. It had been sitting with that unbalanced...

Ok, thanks, probably won't change pumps till next year anyway, it's only going to me, my husband and son using it so I'm not to worried about upgrading it. But I'd like it to last as long as possible and be as efficient and clean as possible so, someday!!

After waking up this morning and seeing that a few of the legs were starting to lean, and finding out from the water company that it's only costing me $30 to fill up the pool, I've decided to drain the pool, level it out refill it and just start over. Rather be safe than sorry in the long run...

Thank you for the welcome, I met a guy that owns a pool maintenance company at the pool store today, and I'm glad I did, he immediately came back to my house and tested everything and showed me how to use the test kit. Yeah I'm fixing the PH first. I just wanted to know what else to pick up while I was at Leslies because I'm in rural Iowa and it's quite a drive to get anywhere so I wanted to get everything I needed while I was there. I ended up running into a pool guy there that followed me out to my house...

Ok, that's what I thought but got confused for a second because someone above said to only use liquid chlorine for SLAM. So slid CYA, liquid chlorine and test kit is what I'm picking up.

Luckily the guy forgot to ring up the tablets so I'm not to worried about that. But are you saying I only use the liquid chlorine to SLAM not to maintain, but then how do I maintain? And yes the pool is slightly un level its about a 6 in slope. I know thats not good, but were gonna take it down...

Ok, I will go to Leslies and get a that kit and then get the TF 100. Once I'm ready and shock the pool should I use some of the chlorine tabs just to get CYA where it should be, then use exclusively Liquid Chlorine?

Also while I'm out, I got the HTH 10% liquid chlorine and I've got about 2 gallons, will I be using liquid chlorine often and if so should I pick some up from Leslies while I'm out, it's about an hour away so I'd like to know now before I have to make another trip. Also I got the 3" jumbo...

Ok, I just called Leslies and they said they have all their brand kits on hand, I noticed the Leslies 81329 was in the recomended test kit section but it didn't test for the Chlorine OTO, how important is that? And would you recomend I just get that, or get a 2 way for now and wait on the TF 100?

When I did the pool math I just entered what its at now when I tested with the strips, which is 0 for everything. So if I go and get the HTH 6 way kit, is it good enough to use or will I also need to get one of the recommended ones? I'm just going to head up to Menards cause they will probably...
