Trichlor and Bleach usage in tandem

I've noticed that when I use Trichlor tablets, my PH tends to stay around 7.5-7.6. When I'm just using bleach as my chlorine source, my PH always wants to rise up to 7.8-8.0 so I'm always adding acid. I'm just curious why this happens. Looking at the pool calculator, I'm assuming this is why...

Wondering if CYA drops more rapidly in really hot climates

I'm beginning to wonder if the CYA level is somehow dropping more rapidly in pools in really hot climates like Texas. A friend of mine has been using pucks to chlorinate his pool for years. He does the standard weekly shocking treatment with some pool store product. Recently he had a very bad...

    The ChlorineGeni

Does anyone know anything about this product? They claim their system generates chlorine from salt, but it is not installed inline and does not require salt to be added to the pool water and will still produce chlorine even when the filter pump is off. http://www.thechlorinegeni.net/

    PH/TA Balance Problem

I have asked a few questions lately regarding PH rise and TA, but I'm still having a problem, so I thought I would create a new topic to try to get some help. My problem is that my PH has started to rise rapidly and I need to get it stabilized. My current numbers are as follows: FC - 5 CC -...

Should I raise my CYA Level

My pool is currently using approximately 4ppm of FC each day, about 182 oz of bleach. My CYA is 40-50. Overnight I am losing .5-1 ppm of FC and the pool is clear. I'm in Houston and its been extremely hot and dry for the past month or so. The pool water temp was at 92 degrees yesterday. We...

What is shock level with CYA of 60

Just clarifying for myself, for a CYA level of 60 wouldn't they need to bring the FC level up to 24 to shock. That's what I would think based on the CYA/Chlorine relationship chart. I just want to make sure that I'm understanding the chart correctly.

    Should I shock my pool?

My water looks very clear, and my numbers seem fine, but I noticed 2 small spots of algae (green color) on the wall in the deep end of my pool. They were both about the size of a frisbee and I could easily brush them off. Right now I'm losing about 1 ppm of chlorine at night and about 2-3...

    Red eyes after swimming?

My kids have been spending quite a bit of time in the pool lately and I've noticed that their eyes seem pretty red when they get out. They said that they hurt a little. The pool is very clear with no traces of algae and my pool numbers seem OK (see below). CC level is 0. My question is...

    Unit Conversion Cheatsheet

Now that my pool chemistry has stabilized for the most part, I find myself making cheatsheets for the typical chemicals I use for my water volume. I have a 3 ring binder that I keep all of my pool stats and reference sheets. Attached is a quick reference I made for common units of measure...

Looking for liquid chlorine source (Houston)

I'm looking for liquid chlorine source in Houston. Right now, I'm just buying jugs of bleach at the grocery store, but wanted to get something with a higher concentration. So far, none of the pool stores I have called sell liquid chlorine and I haven't been able to find a chemical supply house...

    TA recommended level question

For an inground concrete pool, why is the recommended level of TA 70-90 when using bleach and 100-120 when using Trichlor?

    Question about lowering PH

Current numbers; FC - 2.5 CC - 0 PH - 7.9 TA - 110 CH - 280 CYA - 40 These were my test results this morning. My pool is only a few months old, so I have been using Trichlor pucks as my main chlorine source while the CYA was rising. I'm thinking its about time to stop doing that. Based on...

    Pool Store Test results

I'm a new pool owner and am learning how to manage my pool. I'm currently using a TF-100 test kit and feel reasonably comfortable with testing my water myself, but thougt it would be interesting to get the local pool store to double check my number. One of the main numbers I wanted them to...

    First results with TF-100 kit

We completed our pool about 2 months ago and I've been using various methods to keep the pool chemistry stabilized. My PB did the initial work, although, I think they just did the basics. They gave me a ton of chemicals during pool school and I've been using them up while also reading this...
