Sorting through PB's Recommended Chemicals & Schedule

If you already have some Anthony and Sylvan Super Pool Treat (dichlor) you can use it up, both to maintain chlorine and to raise the CYA level up to 70-80. You can use PoolMath to determine how much you will be able to use until the CYA is in range, then stop using it and resume liquid chlorine...

Startup Chemicals for new Fiberglass Pool with SWG

using the "effects of adding chemicals" section of poolmath, the 560lb of salt will give you a reading of 3346. check the manuf. suggested levels and see if that is in range. As for CYA it starts at zero with new water, so whatever you add, will be what your level is.

Drain and Refill to Correct CYA

Hi WalterE, your reading of 0.4CC indicates you are using 25ml of water sample to test. If you only use 10ml water, you can save your testing reagents. Each drop would then equal 0.5ppm chlorine instead of 0.2ppm. The 0.5ppm precision is normally adequate. p.s. it looks like you have a great...

    Oh no, the wall is bowed in! Repair and waterfall install {w/PICS}

Well, the new stone arrived, and it's still sitting in the driveway :( The project has gone south (no offense to the south lol) and come to a standstill. Our plan to speed up the completion was to get the new stone delivered and ask for the old unused stone to be removed from the bill. I...

How to keep your pool okay with least maintenance possible?

Bonjour, it is not even necessary to run the pump all day, a few hours per day is enough. As long as the water surface is being kept clean. If you put the pump on a timer you can have it run overnight. See this link. As for now, if you wont be using the pool for the rest of the year, at least...

Consequences of high Ch, CYA, Borate?

The reason poolmath said to replace 100% of water is because you put in a target of 0 for borates. if you put in 15 as the target it should calculate the amount to drain to reduce the cya properly

I believe it is sandstone. They will likely be trimmed on the joining sides so they will butt up closely together, but the ends will stay uncut, as they have a texture on them.

Thanks Kim, i'm glad you like it! As far as the top wall cap goes, we told the contractor on Tuesday we didn't like it, and the sub-contractor also thinks they are the wrong brick for that application. Contractor said she will bring samples tomorrow (Tuesday). By the time we pick something, she...

Sorry, no updates for a while! As i mentioned above, no action from Thurs Aug 13 to Sun Aug 16. Then we were on a short summer vacation to the NY Finger Lakes area and returned on Wed Aug 19. When we returned they had installed the water fountains. Got an email from the main contractor that...

    Starting the Algae Battle (Again)

Welcome Jason, this is a great story. I will suggest when you test the chlorine level to use 5ml or 10 ml samples, not 25ml. 5ml gives 1ppm precision, 10ml gives 0.5ppm, and 25ml gives 0.2ppm. At the start of the process, smaller samples will be adequate and will save reagents. High precision is...

    Cloudy Water

For now, since your chlorine generator will not be working, add enough liquid chlorine daily to target of 7ppm (since your cya is 60) and try to circulate the water afterwards with the pool brush or pole skimmer, especially at the bottom as the liquid chlorine is heavier than water

Need help balancing water for daughter's birthday party in 2 days

I wouldn't rely on a system whose features includes "Does Not Convert Salt into Chlorine" and "Only Requires Adding Chemicals Every 2 Weeks". It's time to switch to liquid chlorine/bleach and proper testing. Best wishes.

Green pool for 10 days, today finally a bluish/cloudy..to keep adding chlorine?

Hi Jamie, if your chlorine is 10ppm for example, using a 10ml sample, it will take 20 drops to go from pink to clear. For routine testing, the 10ml sample is fine, the 25ml gives precision to 0.2ppm, which is overkill for most purposes, and uses up your testing supplies faster.

Thanks, zombie! Tuesday, the two guys finished the front layer up to 12 rows, which is now full height at about 2.5 feet. Then they did about 9 rows on the back layer. The pipes for the water fall go through openings they left and/or cut in the stones in the back layer. As i mentioned they...

Thanks Marla and Kim! Actually there are 8 different stones that comprise the wall. It just occurred to me, i wonder if the stones have a top and bottom? I don't think so. If they used some upside down, it would look like 16 different stones and would really be hard to see any patterns. I'll...
