Strong Spa , works fine - but no heat .

Thanks for the input RD . Was expecting to find a little more obvious problem with the heater element when I pulled it out . Definitely looks corroded around the nuts . I didnt expect to see surface rusting on the element , thats strange to me . I am not an expert on what it should look like...

Strong Spa , works fine - but no heat .

Thanks for the input RD . Yes, definitely more burned than corroded, I can see . I will just stick with a 4kw to keep it simple . Found a direct Balboa replacement on Spa Guts , Spa Depot only has the 5.5kw models from what I can find . Think I should order a Titanium heater element and swap it...

Strong Spa , works fine - but no heat .

Thanks RD . We have had this tub since new, and it was never dry fired by me . I am the sole one who takes care of the spa (and pool) , and have always made sure the tub was full of water before firing it up . Also, it has always pumped water instantly after the pr cycle, with no hints of air...

Strong Spa , works fine - but no heat .

Yea, its burned up pretty good . Not sure why, possibly bad connections on the rusty looking heater lugs , and got hot . Anyway , searching for a replacement Balboa 501z . Mine has a 4kw heater . Finding mostly replacements with 5.5kw heaters . Does it matter if I replace the control board...

Haven't used it in a about a week and went to open and check up on the water chems (salt tub running a Saltron Mini ) , and noticed the tub was off and the main breaker was popped and the tub was down to 76 . Can’t get any free chlorine reading

That is a "smart stir" , not a "speed stir" . 2 different types of test kit mixers . You need a "Speed Stir" by Taylor technologies . The "smart stir" one will not work with the TF100 test kit vials . I am assuming TF was out of the "Speed stir" by Taylor ? Did they substitute for a "Smart...

    Weird tingling "feeling" ?

He was pushing for this week . Even though we have power , its still a high priority work order since there is some stray ground current going on . ...............of coarse , tonight , we had a classic "out of nowhere" PA storm burst come through and wipe out power to most of the area . We just...

    Weird tingling "feeling" ?

OK, a little update . Sent my electrician a picture of the "questionable" main neutral connection at the house ad he agreed that it is not right and to have that repaired by the electric co. before we proceed looking for other stray ground current issues. Called the electric company and they...

    Weird tingling "feeling" ?

Yea, dont think I will go into amps quite yet . Will let my electrician go further . Did notice a few things while checking different voltages with the multimeter . #3. I do not think my 120v legs are all that balanced . Testing right from the feed , I have one leg at about 118v , and the...

    Weird tingling "feeling" ?

Thanks for the detailed explanation James . As far as our situation ........ 1. I think our conductivity of the ground is prob not very good (not sure if thats a good thing or bad) . We live at the top of a mountain (10 mile views on both sides of our house) . . Very dry shale soil (tough to...

    Weird tingling "feeling" ?

Thanks , I think you guys are correct . I am going to call the power company Monday to have this attached properly . It will be better to be hooked up to the whole neutral wire than just a 3rd of it , I would guess ! lol OK, that makes sense . I got a zero voltage reading from the pool to...

    Weird tingling "feeling" ?

Sorry if the picture is too large ....... Basically , this is how the electric company "re-hooked" us up after the power supply was ripped off the house . That is the one and only main neutral coming into the house . I counted a total of 5 strands of that main neutral are connected . This could...

    Weird tingling "feeling" ?

    Weird tingling "feeling" ?

Voltmeter in hand ........ Solid 120v at each leg , and 240 between to the tub . Looks like I am getting anywhere between 1 - 1.5 ac volts between the tub water and concrete . Disconnected (not just turned the breaker off) , the 240v going to the tub and still have the 1-1.5 volts ...

    Weird tingling "feeling" ?

James, I will get some pictures . This was a self install as far as the wiring goes . I am not a licensed electrician , but am fairly well versed in electrical systems . Also had an electrician look over the wiring and he said it looked fine . I also suspect there may be some stray voltage...

    Weird tingling "feeling" ?

Still have to make a run and get the voltmeter from my shop , will do that today . RD , yes the hot tub is on a GFCI breaker sub-panel (per code) , and tested it this morning. It does trip if I push the test button . Is there anyway to test stray current in the hot tub water via voltmeter ...
