Is a "Salt" pool compatible with a "Bromine" hot tub?

Thanks, I've spent the past couple of months researching all I can on pools, and spent very little reading hot tub topics. I will now focus on them, especially sanitizing options. I'll look into the dichlor/bleach method. I'll also piggy-back onto this thread and ask if anyone has any...

    "REEF" vinyl liner by Kafko

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has Kafko's vinyl liner "REEF" for their inground pool? It comes as an all bottom liner choice, or with a border in "Spanish tile/Reef" or "Blue Cayman tile/Reef" for instance. If so, would you have any pictures to share? Would you recommend it (would you...

Is a "Salt" pool compatible with a "Bromine" hot tub?

Thanks for your input. We will be signing the pool contract in an hour or so (yay!), and have included the Pentair Intellichlor as the SWG. I think we may wait and purchase a salt water friendly hot tub, and stay on the safe side.

Is a "Salt" pool compatible with a "Bromine" hot tub?

Hi, We will be installing a vinyl IGP with a SWG, and have the opportunity to buy at a good price a Hydropool 395 self-cleaning hot tub which uses "bromine". Are they compatible? Will we have issues trying to regulate our pool's SWG if we and the kids keep intermixing the water from the two...

    Thin Paver Overlay Remodel

I don't have a pool yet, but we will be having approx 1500SqFt of mortared (wet lay) thin paver overlay around our future pool this fall. We live in Ontario Canada, so our climate is comparable. We've installed 2 flagstone patios on our property in the same manner, and have had no issues since...

DRY-NICHE lights, are they a good choice?

I figured there had to be a down-side! True, if there is a lot of splashing & add salt from SWG into the equation... I can see corrosion issues happening. I won't even bring it up as an option with our PB. Thanks

DRY-NICHE lights, are they a good choice?

Hi, I just watched a video from "Medallion Pools" on pool walls & seating where he quickly demonstrated a "DRY-NICHE" light set-up. The whole system remains dry, and you easily replace the light (incandescent or LED) by reaching into a skimmer type basket/niche in the deck area. This appears...

Heat Pump and Propane Heater combo???

Hi Bugman, Unfortunately for us in Ontario, our propane fees are now being increased by 40%. Thank goodness we went geothermal for our house a few years ago!!

    In-step return/jets quote, too much?

Forgot to mention, for the moment we will not be purchasing the Pentair automation system; we wanted a nice classic looking pool (or at least as classic as we can get away with it being vinyl), no slide, no waterfall, no bells & whistles (much to the dismay of our two young boys). So we are...

    In-step return/jets quote, too much?

Thanks, good to know that after staying up many a night 'till 4 am researching and planning this pool, that I'm actually on the right track to a good pool build! And glad you agree with the pump. My main concern was to have a quiet one for its placement will be close to our neighbours property...

    In-step return/jets quote, too much?

Hi Divin Dave, Thanks for your reply. Actually I have done so much reading on-line (and on this site in particular) regarding the ins&outs of pool installation & its functioning that I actually understood right away what you were asking. To give you a quick idea of our "future" pool, it will...

    Parallel return lines

    Thanks for the clarification!

    Parallel return lines

I've noticed talk about running "parallel lines" in some threads, especially ones regarding pump hydraulics. What exactly does it mean? Is it just another way of saying running "seperate return lines" from the pump? Thanks

    In-step return/jets quote, too much?

Our pool builder has quoted us $1000.00 to install jets in our acrylic/fiberglass walk-out steps for our vinyl inground pool. The pool has not been built yet, we are planning on having two sets of steps in our layout. Is this price reasonable? Thanks

Thanks, I'll run it by our pool builder also.

Heat Pump and Propane Heater combo???

If we were to install just the heat pump for now and wait a summer or two to find out if it provides adequate heating, but then decide later we would like to add a propane heater as well, is there anything we should do/install now to make the retrofit easy later? Thanks

Heat Pump and Propane Heater combo???

Thanks for the quick response! You mention more maintenance, what do you mean by that? Would it be that we manually start up the propane heater, and then have to go and switch it off (a couple off hours later) and then manually start the heat pump once the temp is reached? I'm thinking we...

Heat Pump and Propane Heater combo???

Hello everyone, This may sound crazy, but has anyone installed both a heat pump and a propane heater to heat their pool? We live in Ontario, Canada, and will be installing a 20X40 rectangular inground vinyl pool with an 8ft deep end. We are planning on installing a Titan IV heat pump, for it...

    X-Brace or standard L-Brace?

Thank you both for your replies! We've been discussing the brace systems with our landcape company. We've decided to go with a mortared stone deck (wet lay ontop of a cement base), with cantilevered stone coping. They can work with either system, but suggested they pour all of the cement...

    X-Brace or standard L-Brace?

Hello everyone, Our plans are to have a 20X40 vinyl IGP installed with aprox 1500sf of natural stone decking. We are down to 2 bids, both pool builders come highly recommended and we would feel confident going with either one. The decking will be installed by a highly qualified landscape...

Will vinyl pool steps jets/returns eventually stop working?

Thanks ssmartt for sharing your experience with jet steps. I'm going to include them in the contact, and see if they can have their own ruturn line, that way they can be closed off/capped off if need be in the future. CHP

Will vinyl pool steps jets/returns eventually stop working?

Thank you both for your input, it was what I was hoping for. I really like the idea of the step jets, and to me it made more sense to seperate the intake lines, as well as the return lines. Unfortunately when obtaining bids/quotes from pool builders it isn't always easy to get an unbiased...

Finally!! New Build in Toronto, ON

OOPS, I mistook your join date for your posting date. With our weather I'm guessing you haven't even been able to take a dip in your new pool yet! But keep me posted if you run into any problems with your step jets. Your pool looks perfect BTW! Enjoy!

Finally!! New Build in Toronto, ON

I'm looking into having a vinyl pool installed with jets in the steps; just as you had mentioned in the original post. Our Hayward builder is all for it, our Fox builder is against it. We live in Ontario also, so exact same climate & conditions. Have you had any problems with yours? Did they...

Will vinyl pool steps jets/returns eventually stop working?

Hello everyone, I would greatly appreciate some input from other inground vinyl pool or fiberglass pool owners who have jets/returns built into their steps. We are in the process of deciding between two bids from two complete different pool systems, Hayward vs Fox. The reputable Hayward PB...

    Help me settle an argument

As an orthopeadic nurse, I would not recommend bathing in a pool post-op. Just think of the high infection risk she is taking; the last thing she needs is to get her "new knee(s)" infected from bacteria in the pool and then become septic... Check with her surgeon, he/she probably doesn't want...

Advice needed for skimmer(s), jets & light layout for a 20X44 vinyl inground pool.

Re: Advice needed for skimmer(s), jets & light layout for a 20X44 vinyl inground pool Thanks for your advice! As for the "where" the skimmer should be placed, do you think the east shallow side is best? The wind will blow in that direction.

Advice needed for skimmer(s), jets & light layout for a 20X44 vinyl inground pool. Hello everyone, we are in the process of obtaining bids for a 20X44 inground vinyl lined pool with an 8' depth in the deep end. The bids so far average $65-70,000.00 (for pool & install only, no landscaping or...
