I agree, a maindrain is not needed al long as you have other ways of good circulation....

It will work, but i always like 2 returns per skimmer, plus step jets when there are walk in steps

Ranger is right on. Id just drain any standing water from heatexchanger when heater is not in use. Most of my customers dont want to even attempt draining the heater so like you said.. i have them open the bypass every couple days or so to flush new water into exchanger.

ITs best to pull the filter apart, clean and degrease the grids once the pool is closed. If possible, keep the grids in a garage over the winter. Dont keep them in a shed mice and other critters will chew them up. If you dont have a garage just put them back into the filter tank once they have...

How come you just dont close the pool? Wouldnt it be cheaper then running the pump all winter?

id open the valve. Anti-freeze wasnt a bad idea. Probably wasnt needed, but better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it!

if you cant leave freeze protection on, and run on low, then i would just turn it off and run pump on low during freezing temps! Too bad there isnt enough salt in the water to prevent freezing all together :)
