I definitely prefer to pull from the knowledge on this site, but no one offered any answers regarding the staining. I just need to know what to do. I can do more chlorine.

Progress is going well. Haven't tested cya lately but I did add one sock full and 1 gallon of chlorine. Here's a photo from today- http://flic.kr/p/no3vUX We've been working at vacuuming out the algae from the bottom of the pool, but we have this really weird layer of red and green hard...

    Pond in my backyard

I am actually quite pleased with the progress the pool is making. I was so discouraged yesterday; I just felt like giving up. I came home from work today and could see the bottom of the deep end. Woohoo!! I will include a pic from today. Last night, we added 2 gallons of chlorine because...

I will have to get more chemical to test the cya again. You're right. My minimum is 30 and I can still see the black dot so it might be 0. When I shake the bottle, I don't get a cloudy liquid. I get a clear liquid. How do I determine chlorine level then? I will get more cya testing liquid...

    Pond in my backyard

I have read all of those documents. I don't know if I'm supposed to add more chlorine. Do I need to increase the CYA in order for chlorine to work? Is my ph okay? I'm sorry I don't really know what to do. The pool math is so confusing because I don't know what most of those words mean. I also...

    Pond in my backyard

Okay, new update. Here's my FC level- 10 I measured pH and that is now at 7. Also did CYA, but that is still showing less than 30. Here's a photo from this morning- This photo is from today. Clearly, I can see the bottom, but there is a bunch of algae in there. Please tell me what...

    Pond in my backyard

Okay, here's my CYA results again- under 30. I filled bottle to 7 mL, added in R-0013, mixed for 30 seconds. When I pour it into test tube, with sun at my back and held down at my waist to view, I can still see the black dot even though I fill it all the way up.

    Pond in my backyard

I have not done anything with the pool except clean it out. The company that came in and replaced the filter and the pump are the ones who added 10 gallons of shock. What do I need to do now that they have added the chlorine and the water wasn't ready?

    Pond in my backyard

I did some more tests today. The PH still seems high- dark pink so there's not even a corresponding color, so I'm calling it 8.0+ still The FC seems to be 29. Is this possible? I did a 10 mL sample, put in 2 scoops of R-0870, added R-0871 drops until it was colorless. I had to add 58 drops...

    Pond in my backyard

jblizzle- I was afraid I would use up the whole bottle of R-0871 before it would go colorless. That's why I stopped. I do have a FAS-DPD kit. These tests are an absolute mystery to me. I don't understand them at all. I did just read the Pool Math and some other article on CYA and it's...

    Pond in my backyard

Okay, here's some numbers. Got my test kit and did a few tests. PH- 8.0+ The water was so dark pink, there is no reading on the tube for it. FC- I did a sample of this. The water was dark red. I added 7 drops of the chemical to make it colorless and quit. I'm assuming that the reading is...

    Pond in my backyard

Hello, all We recently bought a foreclosure that included a lovely in-ground pool, probably 25000 gallons. The trouble is that after we opened it up(the cover had a bunch of holes) we found a horrible mess. The water was brown/black. The filter and pump were nonfunctioning. The pipes were...
