A lot of sand coming out of returns

If the sand size was not the issue, anything else that would cause this?

A lot of sand coming out of returns

I'll also add that the sand I used was the proper size (it was the pool sand from Home Depot).

A lot of sand coming out of returns

This problem started last year, when I noticed that every time I turned the pump on, a small amount of sand would blow out of the returns then stop after 3-5 seconds. Because of this, I did some research on here and the most common suggestion was to replace the laterals because one was probably...

Replacement Hayward Multi port valve leaking. video included.

The screws may be tight, but is there any sort of noticeable gap between the top and bottom housing? Is the o-ring seated properly?

Drained pool, help ID these stains on surface

Anything I can do right now while the pool is empty to make the surface look better? Would an acid wash help or possibly hurt considering the condition of the surface?

Drained pool, help ID these stains on surface

I've been dealing with a staining issue the past couple years that I haven't been able to remedy so I decided to drain this year to see if I can get a better look at the stains and to see if I can tackle the issue. I'm dealing with two separate stains here. The entire gunite surface is covered...

Cannot control staining, please help (Pic included)

Tried a bigger sock full of Vitamin C on my top step. The area around the sock turned white, but the area that the sock was actually resting on turned purple. Anyone seen this?

Negative. I bought 4gal of MA and I'm going to attempt the No Drain Acid Wash. My daughter is having a b-day party on Saturday so I'm trying to clear this up in the next few days if possible. Even though the stains feel same to the touch as the rest of the pool, I'm convinced this is...

Cannot control staining, please help (Pic included)

Just an update. I went on a 5-day trip and dumped about 80oz of muriadic acid in before I left to lower the pH to see if anything could clear up while I was gone. I left the pump on low the entire time. I got back last night and test my water, and it read at 8.2 pH. I have no water feature...

Cannot control staining, please help (Pic included)

Would there be any harm in doing the ascorbic acid treatment without knowing this is an iron problem? I have no issue spending less than $50 for a chance of it clearing up the stains.

Cannot control staining, please help (Pic included)

The actual color of the plaster is white. The green/bluish tint is just the water color at dusk with low light. The water is 100% clear and the stains are all brown in color. I'll try to hop in and get a feel for the stains tomorrow, but generally the whole surface is rough so I don't know if...

I have read about the copper stains, but there's no sort of blue/green tint to these stains. They are 100% brown.

The only chlorine in my pool is via household bleach. I have tried the chlorine puck directly on the stains with no improvement.

Ascorbic acid = the Vitamin C tablet? I tried one and it did nothing. Of course this was an over the counter Vitamin C tablet that was orange in color, but it was all we had in the house. Does that make a difference? Don't know what calcium hypochlorite is so I'm going to say no there.

Cannot control staining, please help (Pic included)

Backstory: I'm military and was deployed from Jan-May. During that time, we had a cover over the pool that loosened over time, allowing a lot of leaves, dirt, and other debris in the pool. When I got home, I removed the cover and saw all the debris on the bottom. I started the SLAM process...

    Determing ideal pump size

My original Hayward Sta-rite 1-speed 1.5hp pump has bit the dust. One problem that I've always had with this pump was what might be considered cavitation. When using my suction-side vacuum from my dedicated suction port, I would have to have at least one skimmer valve open to bring in enough...

    Best pump under $500

Thanks for the reply. I do have 220V available and no water feature. I'd like to stick with something new if I can just to buy me a bit of time with a warranty. The last thing I want to happen is for this thing to go out again.

    Best pump under $500

So I think my 20+ year old Sta-Rite Dura-Glas II finally bit the dust. It was leaking pretty bad so I took it apart and replaced every seal and bearing, and now the **** thing won't even turn over. I don't know how old it actually is, but the part number is from a pre-1998 model, so needless...

Pump won't prime after halfway draining pool

I ended up buying a 0.5 hp pump from Home Depot. It's taking forever, but it's working.

Pump won't prime after halfway draining pool

This was my fear but didn't know if it was possible. I wasn't sure how much the weight of the water itself helped pull it through the suction lines. No spigot that I know of.

Pump won't prime after halfway draining pool

I'm plugging the hole in the light conduit because that's causing a slow leak in the pool. Nothing to do with the light itself.

Pump won't prime after halfway draining pool

I'm in the process of draining my water level below my light to do some maintenance on it. I'm using my pool pump to drain it, taking water only from the main drain and suction side vacuum line (both skimmers are turned off via diverter valve). Everything was going fine but I decided to give...

    Pool light PVC conduit leak

Dumb question, since I don't have the plugs yet, but how do you install them over the wires? It seems like I'd have to disconnect the wires at some point along the line to run them through the plug.

    Pool light PVC conduit leak

Thanks for the response. Repairing the conduit is impossible as the ground above it is now covered in concrete. My only method of action is to use the epoxy putty. Is there any type of sprayable expanding foam that would work? I figure that'd be the easiest route.

    Pool light PVC conduit leak

While digging in my backyard, I hit the PVC conduit to my pool light. I thought I was well clear of it but obviously not. I hit it hard enough to crack the PVC and of course it is now leaking. Obviously this means I have a leak in the light, but from reading on here, this might be normal...
