    Proline/Goldline Valve Actuator GVA-24 Voltage

Thanks for the responses. Hayward corrected their prior support email after I questioned its accuracy. 24VAC so it should work with an irrigation valve. I also found a connector and replacement wire for $12 from Jandy.

    Proline/Goldline Valve Actuator GVA-24 Voltage

Can anyone confirm if the Proline valve control runs off of 24 AC or DC voltage? Hayward has said it is DC, but I'm not sure I believe that statement given the other competitor controls are all AC.

Water supply line in my skimmer

Can you confirm if connecting directly to the valve controller worked? I want to try this with a Hayward Proline valve controller and have seen some conflicting responses. 24 VAC vs 24 VDC problems, etc.

Homemade Acid OR Chlorine Injection System

Re: Homemade Acid or Chlorine Injection System Can you describe in more detail what is required and the procedure to tap into the return PVC pipe. I defintely don't want to make a mistake that would cause a leak or require a patch.

    CYA Loss

I know it sounds wrong, but the salt loss has been minimal (according to the one bottle of strips and the SWG). I just checked it again since you called me on it. Its been hot 95-98F for 2+ weeks straight so evaporation loss has been expected.... fairly confident I don't have a leak. I'm...

    CYA Loss

Zero rain in the last 2 months. I have been filling with tap once a week. No other loss except for splashout. Testing with Lamotte for Borate. Added a little salt last week although I suspect my salt strips read high. CYA loss seem disproportionate to other losses. I know I need to get my...

    CYA Loss

No major changes. CH was around 425 a month ago. It started around 275 after the fill, but the rise has slowed over the last 2 months. TA has been in 80-90 range for the last 2 months and has never been higher than 90. I added the borates around 2.5 months ago as well... I'm guessing on the...

    CYA Loss

I am adding acid almost everyday. Usually occilates between 7.4/5 and 7.8/9.

    CYA Loss

CYA is at 60 ppm today. I had it up to 75ppm 2-3 weeks ago and now its back to 60 after adding 5ppm last Monday. Pebbletec is new as of early March. Acid demand is high and its been hard to bring down TA any lower since the pH rises so fast. TA 80 CH 450 pH 7.6 Salt ~3200 Borate ~40 Temp 87...

    CYA Loss

Are there any other possible reasons for CYA loss besides draining/splash out? My CYA has dropped over the last month despite adding CYA in efforts to bring it up 20 ppm. The pool is getting heavy use and it has been very hot and sunny here in Houston. Salt has not dropped a proportional...

    High Acid Demand

The pH rise has actually increased since the first month with the temperature. The pool is about 3 months old now. Will attempting to drop the TA to 60 help?

    High Acid Demand

I am having to add acid almost daily with a pH rise of .2-.3 points a day. Is this normal for a newer pool? I tried to lower the TA but the pH and TA rise so quickly the additional aeration doesn't allow me to gain much on the TA. SWG is set at 30% and I have a slight trickle out of the spa...

Scaling on spa overflow with good water balance

Here are some shots of the early stages of the scaling. I'm starting to get in the habit of cleaning it off with acid every 2-3 weeks. CSI has been consistantly below zero.

Air coming out between wall and pressure cleaner attachment

I've almost convinced myself that all the air is due to the cleaner line being plumbed after the SWG since there is no significant amount seen when the SWG is left off. My next question would be if having this much concentration of hydrogen in the line posses any risk? Likewise, I wonder if...

Air coming out between wall and pressure cleaner attachment

The suction side of the cleaner is definitely plumbed after the SWG. It comes straight up out of the ground from the return line going back to the pool. Would a SWG create that much air in an 8hr period (running at 25%)?

Air coming out between wall and pressure cleaner attachment

When I first turn on my pressure cleaner after it has been off for a day, a large amount of air spills out from between the wall and the cleaner fitting/regulator. It takes about 30 seconds before you start to see the bubbles after the cleaner pump comes on and stops after about a minute. All...

    Houston Pool Build

I believe it's an acrylic product that is trowelled on after the concrete dries and is then painted. I have also seen where they use a tape template to make it look like a tile or stone pattern. I think its called Sundeck since it looks like the old Kooldeck finish. We chose it since it...

Scaling on spa overflow with good water balance

I've never let the pH go above 7.8 in the last few weeks that I have been montioring it, and I have been testing it daily. Should I drop to something closer to 7.2? That seems like it might be too low of a CSI. I just cleaned it off yesterday, so it will take some time to build back up.

Scaling on spa overflow with good water balance

After adding salt to my pool, I've been getting noticeable scaling on the grout of my tile spa overflow. According to the pool calc, I have been well in the negative CSI range so I'm surprised this would be occurring. It's easily cleaned with 10:1 acid wash, but I would prefer to prevent than...

    Houston Pool Build

I sealed the flagstone and slate patio with a product called bulletproof from Stonetech. It seems to be very repellant, but left a slight white haze on some of the darker flagstones stones. Stonetech support suggested dilluting one of their cleaning products to remove the haze, although it...

    Houston Pool Build

I initially had one 500w lamp in the specs, but switched to the LEDs. The two lights put out plenty of light for the pool and I like the ability to change colors. I also like how it looks with the darker pebble, so no complaints. I was worried that the light on the right might shine into the...

Questions about Water Balance 3.5 weeks after fill

I was using ph 7.6, TA 70, FC 4, CYA 75, CH 300, Salt 3200, Borates 50, Temp 80F = -.44 CSI as approx mid point. Thanks for all the feedback. It sounds like the negative CSI should not be an issue.

Questions about Water Balance 3.5 weeks after fill

I find it interesting that even at the mid point for most of the recommended levels for a SWG using borates at 80degF, the CSI is still between (-.4) and (-.5). Are the recommendations intentionally left more corrosive to prevent scaling in the cell? I seem to be preoccupied with trying to get...

Questions about Water Balance 3.5 weeks after fill

I've definitely been closely following the pool school article you suggested, but my primary question was why the saturation index (CSI) seems to be on the corrosive side when following the recommended levels. The PB was suggesting keeping PH closer to 7.2, but I'm hesitant given that the CSI...

Questions about Water Balance 3.5 weeks after fill

I have just taken over maintaining the water from my builder and was wondering why following the suggest values in pool school shows "potentially corrosive" on the pool calculator. Water values using the TF100: FC 4 PH 7.5 TA 90 CH 280 CYA 100 [builder said he recommends 100...] Salt 3100...

    Houston Pool Build

The stone is Oklahoma Multiblend Flagstone. I was talking to one of the builders today and he even started to waiver on going with salt. I'm now on the fence again between choosing salt over a chlorine feeder. It would be good to hear some actual experiences from people using this type of...

    Houston Pool Build

Finished most of the plumbing, stone, and tile work on Friday. The existing landscaping is taking more of a beating than I thought it would on the back of the yard... Can anyone tell me what size pump would be needed for the 3ft sheer decent on the stacked stone wall? I'm thinking I...

    Houston Pool Build

Most of the issues in Texas are related to stone damage. I'm hoping being more diligent with water chemistry and sealing a proven flagstone coping will avoid most problems. Can anyone recommend a good natural stone sealer that is easy to apply by a non professional? On another topic, I was...
