    Pump Runs Dry

Those threaded plugs are actually drain plugs to drain the water out of the pump to prevent it from freezing during cold weather.

Pump too big? Filter too small?

+1 on what Mark said. If you go to a 2 speed motor on your existing pump and run on low speed, the reduced flow will work well with your filter. There will be significant energy savings that will pay for the motor in time. Doesn't sound like you are in a rush so consider choices and make the...

Suggestions for a pump and filter?

You might want to consider using skimmer socks to help keep the dog hair out of your filter. I use the 1 gallon paint strainers from Lowes. They are reusable many times and are much better than panty hose. Only cost about $1 each. Search this site for more info. This is one of the many...

    Pentair SuperFlo installation update

I installed the same pump on my pool a couple of months ago and changed from a sand filter to a cartridge filter about a week after putting in the new pump. I agree with Jason, you have a suction side air leak and so did I and did not know it. My leak was very slight and I could actually stop...

Pool skimmer not skimming hardly anything.

+1 on what John T said. That is most likely your problem.

    Horseshoe Pipe Repair

+1 on what Dave said. Not very easy to repair pipes buried in the ground. The 4-90's is an acceptable method of doing so and you will never notice the head loss.

Trying to understand MAX FLOW for Sump Pit next to pool

Sump pumps are usually not very efficient and produce very low head. I would not even consider another 1.5" line - go 2" or larger even if it is a short run. It would probably help some to upsize your existing 1.5" line. A 1" rain on 1 acre of land is nearly 27,000 gallons, so no telling...

    pump never fully primes

The fittings you want to stay away from on your pool piping are called DWV fittings. That stands for drain, waste and vent. They are sold in the same stores as pressure fittings and I have seen them mixed up in the same box as pressure fittings. The glue sockets are only about half as deep...

    pump never fully primes

When fixing the screwed adapter at your pump suction be sure to use plenty of Teflon tape on the threads - 6 complete wraps or so.

    pump never fully primes

Some of the fittings you used are "drain" fittings (like where the leak is) and not pressure fittings. I would suggest you use all pressure fittings when you repair because the socket is twice as deep and they never leak when properly done.

Do we need a new pump? Or can we just replace parts?

I believe the first pump bowl could be repaired with JB weld. Rough up the surface with sandpaper first. Worth a try and if it don't work you can always buy something else. The second pump bowl is at the end of it's useful life.

Need help with suction side leak. Hoping I don't have to dig!

I just replaced my suction piping and installed a 3-way Jandy valve this weekend. Those pvc ball valves can do some crazy things. When my main drain suction valve was open it sucked enough air to displace nearly all the water from my cartridge filter overnight. When closed, the valve did not...

Washing machine pump same as pool pump?

Pour the whole gallon down the washing machine drain stand pipe and wait at least 8 hours. Longer is better. Do not run water that might dilute it while it is working. Hopefully you will be good to go. P. Whitlock

Changing speed on 2 speed pump

Thanks for your responses. I changed the speed from high to low and the pump made a "clunk" noise. I didn't even think about the ones that switch on a timer. Just wanted to not damage my new pump. Thanks, P. Whitlock

Washing machine pump same as pool pump?

JB, I have had the same problem with my washing machine. There is a product called Main Line Cleaner that comes in a gallon jug. I have found it at Home Depot and Walmart. It sells for about $15 and I have never found a slow drain it would not fix. My advice would be to try it before you...

Changing speed on 2 speed pump

Installed a new 2 speed pump this week that I plan to run on low speed 95% of the time. My question is do I need to shut the pump down when changing speeds or just flip the switch and change on the fly? Thanks, P. Whitlock

Need help with Pentair Superflo suction and discharge fittings

Thanks Scoop. I did realize that after a while. That is actually how I hooked up the discharge. I am running an old sand filter that I plan to change to a cartridge filter in a week or so. I did not want to use the fitting till my new filter came in and I see how to pipe it up.

Need help with Pentair Superflo suction and discharge fittings

Thanks for the info Jason. According to Pentair, the pump should have come with the fittings. Amazon credited me $60 for the lack of fittings and I was able to buy them locally for $40. Got the pump running this afternoon. SWEET! Thanks, P. Whitlock

Need help with Pentair Superflo suction and discharge fittings

Ordered a 1.5 hp Pentair Superflo two speed to replace my existing single speed pump. Bought an Amazon "open box warehouse deal since they did not have any new ones available. The pump came in this afternoon but it had no suction and discharge unions in the box. Does anyone know if the new...
