The Intex SWG unit has not been dependable

I have had 2 Intex pools with the SWG. The SWG unit has not been dependable, Of the 3 SWG units I have had one was replaced in the first year and the replacement lasted less than 6 months. Another problem with the Intex SWG is that it contains a copper block that is used to prevent algae by...

    Help with pool SLAM

Hi dparker, I understand wanting to wait until the weekend, but the FC is so low you can develop a lot of algae very quickly. I suggest that you add enough bleach to get enough FC to prevent an algae bloom. Personally I would get the FC to 8ppm until you SLAM the pool. You will have to check the...

I also use a SWG system. My FC is well maintained. I still test as the SWG will raise the PH.

BethLynne you can also fill a sock with CYA and tie it to the handle of an empty bleach bottle and let it float in the pool. Give the sock a squeeze when you can reach it. Picture of one in use. Let us know how it is going.

I want to hard plumb this year!

I have used those Lowes type valves for cutoffs on some of my plumbing and sometimes I have to use a pipe wrench to get them to turn. I don't use them anymore.

Help me buy a new pool and sand filter! :-D

I recommend separate units for the pump and swg unit. The swg can be problematic whereas the pump and sand filter is relatively solid. 2 - 3 years seems to be the life expectancy for the swg unit. With separate units you could just replace the swg when needed.

    CYA and water temp

From the Aqua Trol Instruction manual "The Aqua Trol control will not produce chlorine at temperatures below 50º F. If your pool will be below this temperature for any length of time, you must chlorinate manually."

Shelly it could have been a leaking liner that caused the moisture. If you have SWG that would make it worse. We really like the foam floor.

    Pump Question

The nameplate of the motor has a temperature rating. The photo shows the AMB = 50 degrees C. That means the motor temperature can be the ambient air temperature plus 122 degrees F. If the sun has the motor at 100 F then it could be 222 F when fully loaded. Quote "The ambient temperature plus the...

Cyanuric Acid does go down right?

Keep them for a time when you go on vacation and can't add chlorine manually. Regular sage will get your CYA so high that you will not be able to keep enough chlorine in the pool. The CYA/Chlorine chart http://www.troublefreepool.com/content/128-chlorine-cya-chart-slam-shock shows that as the...
