Leaking backwash valve. Can i simply bypass it

Hi everyone. We have an old setup. The backwash valve leaks from the bottom despite me swapping the seals and the c clamps. I'm 100% certain i have it assembled correctly. My best guess is that perhaps the cylinder in which the assembly slides up and down may have a little crack or just...

Need help with some old equipment, new pump sizing

mas thank you, I think I will simply order a nice 1hp hayward and call it a day. I do not want to mess with a super cheap pump and parts will never be available or it simply wont be reliable. I rather pay more and get reliability, its a hassle messing with the pump in the first place.

Need help with some old equipment, new pump sizing

Correct, unlike my house with a newer pool where there is a separate connector for a pool cleaner, at my parents house there is only one hole that brings water to the pump, it does not even have a strainer in that hole. That same hole goes straight down to the bottom of the pool to suck water...

Need help with some old equipment, new pump sizing

mas985 thanks for the input. If its a 1hp, would I even run it at the low power because currently the pump drives the zodiac g3 pool cleaner the whole time. That circulates the water well and cleans the pool. We are not really able to have the g3 run part time and then just skimmer as they...

Need help with some old equipment, new pump sizing

Hey folks we have a very old AO smith pump at my parents house. Recently the circuit breaker has tripped shortly after the pool pump had gone on, I know because the timer was just at the beginning of the 6 hour cycle. I flipped the breaker and it started to run. My suspicion is the pump...

Is this SWG 220v ? and why is scale building on it weekly ?

Hey everyone I have a zodiac lm3-40 SWG. It was working fine for months, years. Lately it seems it builds up scaly white sediment on the cells literally weekly. I have read that some swg's have self cleaning, this one is supposed to but no longer seems to be working. Obviously I dont...

Need help with vacuum breaker issue

Isacc thanks for the reply, and yes there is vacuum in the line, I removed the valve and it basically sucked in a bunch of air. Somewhere between 2200 and 2800 the pressure changes form a vacuum to spill out of the hole. I will just place a plug and call it a day.

Need help with vacuum breaker issue

I had actually forgotten I asked the exact same thing before. I did not post pics of the actual valve but I actually rigged up a spring to the bottom of the thing to try to keep it closed at low pressure etc. Seems it want to open with the low flow conditions. The pump loses efficiency. as...

Pump and flow experts, need some input

Found it Pump Run Time Conventional wisdom is that most pools need 1-2 turnovers per day. However, studies have shown that most pools need far less run time than that and can usually get away with 3-4 hours of run time per day. However, for two speed or variable speed pumps on low speed, the...

Pump and flow experts, need some input

Thank you for the reply. I was concerned that the flow rate is low and I wont be able to get 1 or 2 turnovers per day. Spa jets are fine, besides I can arrange a different rate to each function. VSPs seem to save money by operating at very low rpms, it seems when I reduce the rpms to...

Pump and flow experts, need some input

Recently I had a contractor install an ecostar 3400vsp. It replaced a whisperflo 2hp pump. I am convinced the pump is undersized or underpowered or perhaps it was not a good idea to swap in a vsp for the 2hp pump. Here is the setup. House is on a hill so backyard is sloped Pebbletech...

Need help with vacuum breaker issue

Recently I repalced my 8 year old whisperflow 2hp pump with a hayward Ecostar. I am having issues with a vacuum breaker that is preventing proper flow. Here is the setup. Pool with elevated spa that spills into pool, and the equipment is about 15 feet higher than the pool, about 8 feet...

Best way to install Intelliflo VS with an older Polaris EOS 3 - part 2

I had a hayward ecostar pump installed and the installer was able to connect it directly. I can not change the RPMs from the remote but those can be programmed via the console on the pump and the eos remote can simply change from presets - works well

Best way to install Intelliflo VS with an older Polaris EOS 3 - part 2

Hi everyone I just reviewed this thread after googling my situation http://www.troublefreepool.com/threads/53845-Best-way-to-install-Intelliflo-VS-with-an-older-Polaris-EOS While it is helpful, I have a few questions about a similar install. We recently purchased a home with a pool built in...
