Is it too early to open in New Jersey?

I just did and I live in South Jersey. It is not a problem at all. I did the same last year, but April 15th.

IC 40 reads low salt; Pentair told me to bring down phosphates?

There was no evidence of visible scaling (or not bubbling) so I let sit for about two minutes. So far this AM the SWG is indicating a good level of salt. Let's see if it continues to read such or if it oscillates again in a few days. Could have less to do with scaling (new SWG last year)...

IC 40 reads low salt; Pentair told me to bring down phosphates?

I forgot ask--How long should one let the muriatic acid solution sit on the scales? I let it sit for about 2 minutes, re-installed the SWG, and it now says it reads a fine salt level. I will update tomorrow because it could be oscillating between low and good salt levels as it seemed to do...

IC 40 reads low salt; Pentair told me to bring down phosphates?

Okay...Just removed SWG and will use muriatic acid solution and see what happens.

IC 40 reads low salt; Pentair told me to bring down phosphates?

So, I added a phosphate remover and the SWG started claiming appropriate salt levels? Go figure. Any chemists who can explain what is going on? Coincidence? A chemical reaction?

Tips for Building a New Pool

Please add your suggestions, opinions and/or what you might have done differently: 1. If you are debating between a smaller pool and a bigger pool, go bigger! My PB convinced us to go smaller. We regret that decision. 2. Go with a geometric shape such as a rectangle instead of a freeform...

    Pentair IC40 issues

I don't know that I can offer much help. I am a bit frustrated with my IC 40 SWG. This is my third year of a new pool and Pentair replaced my IC 40 last year. This year, I am having the same problems. I called tech support--it took 45 minutes to get through. I suspect when my SWG final...

IC 40 reads low salt; Pentair told me to bring down phosphates?

When I first opened the pool mid-April, I cleaned the cell with 100% vinegar as recommended by the pool opening company. I have not cleaned it since then. I am not entirely certain how to clean with muriatic acid without making a mess of things? - - - Updated - - - I have a Taylor...

IC 40 reads low salt; Pentair told me to bring down phosphates?

Salt is reading 3400 PPM.....Exactly what Pentair claims is optimal. I am going to call back and get a different rep. Last year, had the same issue and they just replaced it. I have not had much luck with SWG. Third year of this new pool.

IC 40 reads low salt; Pentair told me to bring down phosphates?

My water is perfectly balanced. Salt: 3400 FC: 4 Alk: 80 CYA: 60 PH: 7.6 Borate: 30 Phosphates are high (300) but I usually do not care since everything else is balanced. The same thing happened last year and Pentair sent a new IC 40 (less than a year old). This year my IC 40 just started...

Midnight blue plaster fading after one year?

My wife thinks the change may be related to the use of liquid bleach and/or Mule 20 Borax. - - - Updated - - - Photos attached. Note the darker blue (nearly same exact time and date last year) compared to this year's lighter color. Any further thoughts?

Midnight blue plaster fading after one year?

Hello, Last year, my Diamond Brite Midnight Blue plaster was a much richer, deeper blue. This year (second year of new pool) the plaster looks like it has been bleached out. I am not sure if this is due to using the TFP approach (i.e., borax, etc) which makes the water so clear that the...

Pool water level increasing due to rain--When should I drain some water?

I am about an inch or less from the coping. At what point is it appropriate to drain some water? Hate to do it because later in the season I am sure I will have to add some due to evaporation.

Last Question for a while--CH at 470. Is this a problem?

Thank you so much for the above information! I now have to take a look at your CSI index and learn aspect of pool maintenance. My pool is now a year old so I suspect there will be even more PH creep. I will throw in a bit more CYA and Muriatic acid tonight as it is supposed to rain in my area...

Last Question for a while--CH at 470. Is this a problem?

Here are my numbers: Added 13 boxes of 20 mule borax on Sunday based on a prior pool store reading of 12 ppm. This should put me in the 30 to 40 range PH: 7.6 FC: 2.0 CC: 0.0 TA: 100 CYA: 60 to 70 CH: 470 Salt: 4200 PPM I should get my borate test in the next few days, and will adjust...

Last Question for a while--CH at 470. Is this a problem?

The rest of my numbers are fine. Should I just live with it until it declines with water spill out? If so, what are the consequences? Sorry about the multiple posts....Just modulating everything now that I have my own test kit and had things screwed up by pool store.

Added 11 boxes of Borate yesterday evening, but pool store now reads lower level?

Thanks for that feedback about SWG and FC. Here's another issue--unfortunately, and before I received my Taylor test kit, I relied upon the pool store's calculations for CH. They reported a level of 250. I conducted the CH test twice and it reports a level of 470 PPM! I added the Calcium on...

Added 11 boxes of Borate yesterday evening, but pool store now reads lower level?

I added bleach the other day. Since I just received the Taylor kit, I can now verify whether my SWG system is working properly. I run the pump from 9 am to 5 pm religiously. If I crank the cell up to 100% do I have to run the cell longer to generate 3.0 to 5.0 in FC?

Added 11 boxes of Borate yesterday evening, but pool store now reads lower level?

FC = 2.0; CC=0. Does this make sense? Thanks for the suggestion for the Taylor test kit. It just arrived. I used a Taylor 2006c test and have the following results: PH=7.6 CYA=60 to 70 Hardness=250 TA=100 SWG system But, having zero CC does not make sense to me when the FC is 2.0??????
