I'm a little confused. LOW CH (50-75) this year after fighting it being super high..

Now, I'm fighting high TA (130) and high pH (approaching 8+). I suspect the bleach is the culprit as I'm having to dump a full 121oz jug in every day to maintain chlorine levels in the 5-6 range. This isn't making sense to me. CYA is in the 60 range.

I'm a little confused. LOW CH (50-75) this year after fighting it being super high..

Thank you. I think we are on the right track now. TA and pH have normalized and I'm able to keep the TC in the 5-6 range. It's been dropping to 2 or so fairly often so I'm guessing I've had some near misses. More rain today so we will see what tomorrow brings Sent from my iPhone using...

I'm a little confused. LOW CH (50-75) this year after fighting it being super high..

I will have to check TA. CH is 300 on fill water. My pool volume is very hard to calculate Shallow end is 3 feet deep. Deep end goes to 9 feet, I believe, but slopes the whole way. I believe I'm between 25k and 30k gallons. Not rough at all. Last year, the scale that we saw was rough...

I'm a little confused. LOW CH (50-75) this year after fighting it being super high..

The only thing i can think of is when I shocked it last fall, or when my guy that opens for me shocked it this spring, it settled to the bottom. He would have had the pump on and I'm pretty sure I had it on and brought TC way up in fall. I have to wonder if it's scale of some sort.

I'm a little confused. LOW CH (50-75) this year after fighting it being super high..

Thanks. I'm worried about why my liner seems to be fading...quickly. Opened in mid-april and there was not much fade noticeable. Surely baking soda didn't do it (I've had to add a TON of it...like 40 lbs, to get my TA up. pH was in the high 6's when I opened and has come up since adding the...

I'm a little confused. LOW CH (50-75) this year after fighting it being super high..

Since taming the swamp two years ago, almost to the day, I had always fought with a scale I couldn't get rid of. pH was high as was CH. Toward the end of last year, I finally got the gumption to dump acid in the pool and got the pH down and the scale magically went away. Winterized by...

Is there any hope of opening to a clear pool with a mesh cover?

I opened to a clear pool with a mesh safety cover (loop loc) that has several holes in it. I just shocked it into oblivion and kept an eye on it since November. Last year, I added several gallons of bleach to be sure. Didn't have to do so this year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Heat Pump Costing Way More Than I Expected

I just flipped our heater on Friday evening to warm up the pool For the weekend. Went from 66 degrees to 80 in about 18 hours or so. Thank god it got warm yesterday and today. I will be shutting the heater down for the next couple weeks and won't open next year until After the pollen is...

Opened this week, and heater is getting us warmed up...but, Low TA, Low pH, and CH

Oh...TF-100 Final numbers today after getting pool warmed up and adding baking soda pH 7.2 TA 60 CH 100 CYA about 60 TC 10, 0 CC

Opened this week, and heater is getting us warmed up...but, Low TA, Low pH, and CH

The water is CRYSTAL clear. I use Bleach to chlorinate. Used Muriatic to lower pH last summer. Rain, I believe, is the main culprit for the acidity. We've probably gotten about 20" total since we closed. Over 10" came over 4 days at xmas. Been using the methods here since we opened to a...

Opened this week, and heater is getting us warmed up...but, Low TA, Low pH, and CH

We had a TON of rain over the winter, to the point the pool was nearly overflowed (epic flooding), so my chemistry is as messed up as I've seen it in a while. Even when it was green, my pool wasn't putting out numbers like this. Wondering exactly how to approach this so as to not screw it up...

    Question about "pucks"

Thank you for the tips. I do appreciate it. Part of my motivation is I'm currently away from Sunday night thru Friday night and the wife is trying to manage things on her own.

    Question about "pucks"

Got the SLAM done, but CYA is still hovering around 20-30. I also happen to have a bucket full of pucks (Silk Tabs) and like 6 lbs of Smart Shock lying around. Would it hurt anything to use up the pucks before going to full bleach again? I figure I'm not going to be able to sell this stuff...

    Returns "spitting air"

The skimmer baskets appeared to be "Stuck up" allowing water to vortex, and this was causing a lot of air in the system.

    Well, this should be interesting....

Ok. Good to know. I'm going to get what I can out of the pool and brush some more to see if any more comes off, but knowing that this isn't totally unexpected is helpful. I assume we are ok to swim and just work on it? Also, in the corners, how "tight" against the wall should one expect the...

    Well, this should be interesting....

Oh, I also achieved great success last evening. I got in to try to scrape more and there was an area where the liner had pulled away just a bit out of it's "groove" near the ladder. I was able to get it back in. I was quite happy with this because the liner is less than 2 years old.

Test results this morning. pH 7.5 (we think) FC 9.5 (believe same as last night...added extra drop and called it 10 last night) CC <0.5 CH 250? This test is weird. It goes from pink to blue? I originally called it 200 TA 210 CYA 20-30 Do these numbers make sense? I still have some white...

    Returns "spitting air"

Thanks Richard. I'll check it out. Don't have any "flappers" on the skimmer inlets.

    Returns "spitting air"

I have had to remove the filter basket from the pump several times in the last 2 weeks to clean it....I wonder if this may have something to do with it. Hopefully have some time to mess with it this weekend and figure it out. SLAM is nearly complete. We could see the drain this morning.

    Returns "spitting air"

Thanks...we had trouble priming the pump at start up because we think one of the intake lines has a small air leak so I suspect this is the culprit. I'm going to work on the assumption that we shouldn't be seeing these burps and bubbles.... :) I appreciate your help.

    Returns "spitting air"

I wondered if this is normal. The returns tend to occasionally "burp" and spit air bubbles...almost like there is air in the system. Wondered if this is normal, or if I may have an air leak somewhere I need to address...

Any particular suggestions? I've been perusing Amazon. Like using the Polaris, but it doesn't quite get everything.

    QUestion about vacuum head

The vacuum we have is rather old, and seems to have been partially melted somehow, so I'm wondering about replacing it (pool guy has one that has rollers and brushes and apparently is mostly for plaster pools vs. vinyl liners). My question is, I have a vinyl liner...do you have to use one of...

    Well, this should be interesting....

THanks....I cleaned ours out "fairly" well...I'm excited to see how well it lights up the water once the water is clear. As near as I can tell, there's just the one output under the diving board.

    Well, this should be interesting....

This pic shows the area a little better. Trying to tell if it's wishful thinking that I think I see a drain in the deep end.
