Re: How to clean a cartridge filter

Re: How to clean a cartridge filter I bought one of those little brass nozzles as shown and it really works! It really gets the gunk out and my pressures dropped to new filter levels. I highly recommend the use of that little nozzle. Cheapest yet most effective pool accessory I have ever...

What are the benefits of brushing my pool?

The weekly brushing of the walls of my pool is my least favorite pool maintenance task. Why is this necessary? I have been out of town and sick the past two weeks so it had been three weeks since I last brushed my pool. After brushing I noticed no difference in the water. No clouds kicked up...

Help needed on skimmer and drain piping

I need help on the other side of the pump In my attempt to better understand my plumbing, I have a picture of the return side of my pump: If I understand correctly, the first pipe (with the check valve) is returning water to one return in the elevated spa. The middle pipe is returning water...

Help needed on skimmer and drain piping

Now that I have a pretty good handle on my water chemistry (that's to this site and the TF-100), I turn my attention to try and better understand my plumbing. My skimmer and drain piping is shown below: If I understand correctly, pipes 1 and 2 are my pool skimmer and drains and pipe 3 is my...

    CH and Borate levels

Interestingly enough, my CYA levels have dropped over the winter. I measured CYA of 60 during early fall and I recently read 40. I will bring back up to 60 - 70 in the spring. I'm really not worried about it until we start swimming again! :-D

    CH and Borate levels

I was referring to the fact that since I don't backwash my filters, refills of the pool should be minimized (except for splashout).

    Too cold for SWG????

I also turned off my SWG a couple of weeks ago and have been using bleach. Very easy. My manual says (if memory serves me right) that the SWG will turn itself off when the water temp. drops to 50 or below.

About to take the Borax plunge!

OK, before I do this are there any final suggestions? I've read the sticky article over and over again and I'm ready! (I think) How soon can I add the second half of the borax / acid dosing?

Well I couldn't wait. I test CYA today and it was 40. I realize that's low but I won't try to adjust until spring.

    Received my TF-100 on Thursday

Is your waterfall and fountain on a different pump than your pool/spa?

Turning off SWG during the winter and Our FC levels

My water is at 57 degrees and we are expecting cold weather for the next week or so. I turned my SWG off and am using bleach. I found a real deal at Sam's Club, 3 - 182 oz. jugs of 6% bleach for $7 & change!

Adding muriatic acid w/o pump running

Yes, I normally run the pump for 30 minutes to an hour but was just wondering if I could skip this step. Is 30 minutes to an hour long enough?

Adding muriatic acid w/o pump running

As the subject suggests, is it unwise to add small quantities of muriatic acid (one pint to one quart) to my pool w/o the pump running? Would it be OK to let it sit overnight until the pump starts the next morning?

    Adding salt

For the first time, I plan on adding salt to my pool tonight. My salt reading is 2900 ppm. Any special advice? This is what I plan on doing: - Turn on pool pump - Turn off SWG - Add salt around perimeter of pool - Brush the sides of the pool for mixing - Leave pool on for 24 hours - Turn on SWG
