VSP with 3-bit external speed selection?

A couple of years ago I found a Variable Speed Pump whose 8-speed selection could be accomplished externally via a 3-bit digital interface. I began intermittently designing a custom DIY automation controller around that pump, and am now at the point where I want to buy it, but cannot find it...

Best Thermowell(s) for DS18B20 digital temperature sensor?

Recommendations, please. Also, what material, if any, should fill the small gap between the thermowell and the sensor probe? (West-Central Florida)

    Automation - Where to Start?

Are you interested in using commercial controller(s), or in designing and building your own? If the latter, start of by buying a USB to RS-485 interface for your laptop, and determine if you can control the pump speed using the reverse-engineered protocol available on-line.

Valve Actuator: Current Draw & DIY Automation

I am a retired engineer (BSEE, MSCS) doing small electronics projects for fun. No interest in dealing with mass production (or UL), nor with providing tech support.

Valve Actuator: Current Draw & DIY Automation

I don’t have a Spa. My JVAs are: - Solar heat - Pool cleaner - Lower water level (after Florida déluge) I don’t see a need to operate them concurrently.

Valve Actuator: Current Draw & DIY Automation

Forgot to mention I was looking at DIN Rail mount transformers. Was hoping to implement entire controller with DIN Rail modules. However, making an exception or two may be prudent. In which case the middle transformer in your screen-cap would work. Thanks.

Valve Actuator: Current Draw & DIY Automation

Jim, I’m designing my own automation controller, and trying to keep the cost reasonable. I am appalled by the price of higher wattage step-down transformers, and am trying to figure out if there’s a way to get away with a 20 VA transformer, despite having multiple JVAs. Thanks for confirming...

Valve Actuator: Current Draw & DIY Automation

Regarding a Jandy Valve Actuator (JVA), Model 2444 (or equivalent): My inference is that the JVA only draws ~0.75 A from its relay-switched 24 Vac supply while it is moving. That once it finishes rotating to the cam-defined angle, a microswitch opens the current path to the motor. Is that...

    Hayward Cartridge Filter Threaded Rod

The threaded rod (onto which my filter cover's lock-nut assembly screws) became unscrewed from the molded threads in the base of the filter assembly. I'm being told it is non-repairable and that I must buy a new filter assembly. Is that factual? Or is there an epoxy or helicoil solution that...

Orientation of Check Valve, Solar Panels Return

The check valve that prevents back-flow through the filter and pump is located between the filter and the diverter valve that optionally sends water to the solar panels. However, that is NOT the check-valve about which I was enquiring. Since posting, I have spoken with Jandy Customer Service...

Orientation of Check Valve, Solar Panels Return

My pre-existing roof-mount solar panels installation lacks a check valve in the return path. I bought a Jandy 7305, whose documentation states that it should be installed horizontally, or vertically with flow ascending. Why can I not install it vertically with flow descending? I want the water...
