Just got my kit and completed tests

Sounds like you are getting it nicely sorted - once you get the hang of it, you only test every 2 or 3 days and get into a 'holding pattern' - you pretty much know what to add and how much, and make very small adjustments.

Do robotic cleaners save energy compated to suction cleaners?

I've found the robotic cleaners do a far better job, and faster, and use less power - I've a Zodiac V3, its brilliant.

Portable generators not for a pool.

Depends on your electrical code in the states, but you need a changeover switch at your power board (so you don't back-feed the mains) - also note that the three phase units don't like running unbalanced between the phases. Three phase is pretty common in Aus, it complicates things when your...

    Mineral Pool Salts

From memory when I was harassed by the pool store about this - it was magnesium sulphate (Epsom salts). Not to be confused with softswim, which is remarketed baquacil.

What refills did you need? I have the full FAS-DPD chlorine test powder and reagents. See the coffee lounge.

Seeking Power Supply Info: Aquabot Bravo

Wattage: 140 Watts Voltage: 24 V at cleaner Pretty simple to sort out. Search ebay for "24V 350W Power supply" - you should pick up a switchmode supply that's a clone of a meanwell for about $50 - Put it in a waterproof box and you should be fine. As for the pinouts - looks like if it has a...

    Fiberglass Pool manufacturers...Difference in quality?

Another vote for leisure pools from sunny Australia - quality of fibreglass is excellent, coming from experience with boating - brilliant layup and quality matt and composites

    Pool test kit...what to buy?

In Australia, you can import from saltwater pool parts - shipping is dear, but quick - the $450 ebay kit is a ripoff - that's a k-2006C - larger reagent sizes (66ml vs 22) I have some reagents in stock if you just need the FAS-DPD test, will work as long as you have a 10ml measuring cylinder. PM...

Strange test results - Why you should RTFM

I tried that last night, much easier to see. My reagents turned up from the states yesterday, and I also tried the salt test - 5,800 PPM - not a pretty test, lots of chunky bits at the bottom, and cleaning up after it was a chore. Oh - and silver nitrate - I forgot how badly it stains skin...

Strange test results - Why you should RTFM

Does this change the ratios used for the maths? Pool is looking great after making these changes, its now a bit disconcerting when the filter is off and the water is still - looks like a sheet of glass over an empty pool! The only clue that there is water in it is the line around the outside.

Low speed pumps causing gas bubbles

At low levels you don't really see much - a few whisps of 'smoke' that appear to come off the plates. Wind up the wick and they look like they are steaming.

Strange test results - Why you should RTFM

Yep sure have - my eyesight is really poor. I think there is a point where it is a really, really feint pink colour that I see as clear. CYA has dropped as expected.

    Wasn't expecting a pool?!

It would cost a fortune! - black algae is a PITA but use enough chlorine and you can kill anything :)

Low speed pumps causing gas bubbles

Yep I have the same problem - it was discussed at length on whirlpool forums, someone fixed theirs by mounting it so that it is at 90 degrees to normal, ill be doing the same with mine. http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-re ... 874947&p=3 Fix - https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/gna ...

    Outdoor TV options

We use something a bit different - we have a projector inside, mounted on the ceiling, rear-projecting on a large pool-facing window - sound is done via some 'outdoor' speakers fed from a 2.4ghz AV transmitter / receiver pair. Yeah nerdy... I know.

    Salt and borates

Interesting - I'm bringing in some salt test reagents from the states as I had the same problem with those salt test strips from the bunnies.

Lumenyte Fiber Optic Lighting -- Repair Options?

The ends of those fibres look pretty nasty. Are they glass or plastic? Personally, I would convert them over to an LED source to each fibre (cree MC-E's into each fibre would be MUCH brighter than what was originally there, unless it used a metal halide lighting source). Depends how handy you...

Taylor or tf100 test kit availability in Australia?

Darn it - I used someone else who advertised shipping to Aus - the bill came in yesterday, $285 worth of reagents and shipping (woah). At least I should be able to help a few locals out... I got extra CYA reagent, PH phenol red, salt testing reagent, fas-dpd reagent.

Strange test results - Why you should RTFM

I've drained 10% of the water yesterday, and turned down the SWG - last test was 21FC, 0CC, 100 TA (I was measuring it wrongly before, using the green to clear change rather green to clear to red), 90 CH - haven't tested the CYA since it was very overcast. Out of interest I tested the fill...

    Astral viron chlorinators

I have a similar unit - they are a rebadged hurlcon iirc. The power supply is fan cooled, and I would say it's probably obscured (ie not enough airflow) or senile - I swear my chlorinator is running beta firmware because it's so buggy. Is it shaded or in an enclosure?

Strange test results - Why you should RTFM

I tested again last night - free chlorine is now at 31, combined is zero (EEEK! - I've turned down the SWG). Somehow, adding 1.5kg of stabiliser has brought up the CYA levels to 90, overshooting the target of 70-80 I was seeking for the SWG. That will learn me for putting in too much at once...

Taylor or tf100 test kit availability in Australia?

Lucky you! I paid $55 for shipping, but it was a flat rate box (up to 8lbs) so I brought in some extra for other Aussie members needing the refills, since no-one stocks it here. I'll post more in the coffee lounge when it arrives (due to the no FS rules in any other boards).

New Pool owner (and new pool) - Newcastle Australia

Yesterday it was 1.5ppm CC, so its dropping. I am still fighting Mustard Algae - I get those little piles of brown dust that gather on the steps. Water looks superb - very, very slight cloudiness in the water at night with the light on. As in you could count the individual 'grains' as they...

LED Pool Lights - Can you offer good Manufacturer

Well, the 1.5" makes life difficult. I had a pool light that used a 50W MR16 halogen which I refitted with a quality LED MR16 and its brighter. Single colour? MR16's are 51mm in diameter. MR11's are 1.375" so you may be able to use them. Short of making something custom (using high quality LED...

    CPSC48 meltdown

Looks like a high current joint - personally, I would just solder the bugger (wires) to the contacts. Strip, clean, and fill the whole lot with solder. Makes the wires more brittle, but it isn't something that is subjected to movement. Add some neutral cure silastic if that makes you feel better...
