Can I tint my tile grout

OK... The pool is located in Playa Del Carmen Mexico. That's near Cancun. No worries about freezing the pump!!! Right now the pool is completely drained for the tile job but I wondered what to do with the pump and filter during that time. Didn't know if the filter would grow mold in it or something.

Can I tint my tile grout

Thanks all for the info. On another note, the tile job will take 3-4 weeks. What should I do with the pump and filter? Is it OK to just shut them down or should I drain them too? Thanks.

Can I tint my tile grout

Regular grout in a pool? I thought you needed special grout/mastic that is waterproof. If I use regular grout, would I need to adhere the tiles with mastic first and do this in 2 steps? I spoke to the grout manufacturer (this is a grout/ mastic material made by Bexel in Mexico). they said that...

Can I tint my tile grout

Hey everyone. I'm getting ready to tile my pool, I have these really cool grey tiles but I can't find a matching grey grout/ mastic / adhesive to go with them. Have you guys ever heard of using concrete colorant to tint the grout? I'm thinking of getting white grout and adding some black...

    Algae caused by chlorine???????

Thanks for all the help everyone. I think this may be one of the great mysteries of life. I've changed how I add the Trichlor; I take more time to dilute it and make sure there is no powder residue on the pool bottom. So far the algae has not returned. Problem solved I guess.

    Algae caused by chlorine???????

Strange though that the only place the algae grows is where the powdered chlorine sits on the bottom.... Hopefully a good scrub with the pressure washer will clean the surface enough for the tiles. I don't see any scale. Do you think I will need to do something else like wash with acid or...

    Algae caused by chlorine???????

OK, this definitely brushes off. The trichlor is by Astral Pools. The label says "Trichloroisocyanuric acid powder". It is 90% available chlorine. I had a look at the MSDS sheet on it but it only deals with the 97% powder, not the other 3%. I'm in Mexico so maybe the other 3% is Tequila?

    Algae caused by chlorine???????

Thanks for the replies. I'm using the Taylor K-2006 kit. Here are all the test results: FC - 3.2 CC - 0 PH - 8.0 CH - 1100 (yes 1,100 ppm) CYA -less than 20 TA -250 So, the pool is new, the concrete has had Fester additive to make it impermeable. I've only had water in it for 2 weeks and I was...

    Algae caused by chlorine???????

OK, here is a weird one for you guys.... hope you can help me. I have a new pool - 35,000 gal, rough concrete waiting for tile to arrive. We're using the pool until the tile gets here. The chemistry is still out of whack, i.e the PH is 8.0, not enough CYA yet etc. But here is the weird thing...

SWG with crazy hard water and variable speed pump

Wow, thank you all for the information. This gives me something to chew on. Do you guys think there is a benefit one way or the other between a SWG and a chlorine injection system? Not sure how I'll go yet - the pool is very new so It'll take some time to see how much chlorine I use etc. Lots...

SWG with crazy hard water and variable speed pump

Hi everyone. I have a new pool, 35,000 gal, in ground, concrete/tile. I'm looking at getting a SWG like the Jandy Aquapure Ei but I have a few questions I hope you can help me with... I'm in the country so I need to fill the pool with my well water which has a calcium hardness of 1,100ppm. No...

New pool skimmers and returns - where and how many?

Thanks for the input. Looking at the historical weather data for the area, the wind is very constant in the right direction for the skimmers except for 3 winter months. During those months the wind is shifted about 90 degrees (counter clockwise on my diagram) for about 30-40% of those months...

New pool skimmers and returns - where and how many?

Hi everyone. I am having a pool built and I'd like some opinions on the number and locations of the returns and skimmers to make sure it's being done right. the pool is in ground, 35,000gal. Depth is 4' throughout. Standard chlorine with sand filter etc. It's basically a big rectangle with a 25...

Advice on my construction plan for skimmers and returns

Thanks for the input guys. So, if I put another skimmer at the top there, would I try to make the water circulate counter clockwise around the large area then down the swim lane? How many returns do you think I should have? Thanks again.

Advice on my construction plan for skimmers and returns

Hi all. I’m brand new here and could sure use some advice…. I’m starting a pool project and I’d like an opinion on the builder’s design of the skimmers and returns. Is he putting enough in? Are they in the right locations etc? Any help would be greatly appreciated! The pool is basically square...
