With the cost of SWG cells having doubled, is SWG still the way to go?

That sure puts it in perspective! Thanks. I guess I'll order a new cell.

With the cost of SWG cells having doubled, is SWG still the way to go?

I finally got a good run out of a cell (almost 5 years) after multiple 1-2 year failures (they were undersized, among other things). Went to price a new one (Autopilot PPC4) and they've gone from $450 to $800. At $800, that's $160/yr if (big IF) I get 5 years again. Bite the bullet and...

New 1HP motor runs about 5 seconds then stops and just hums.

Posting so others may see the cause. I installed the seal backward. Seal seized.

New 1HP motor runs about 5 seconds then stops and just hums.

I thought I'd replaced this thing over the years enough times not to mess it up but either the motor is bad right out of the box or I wired it wrong (if that would even cause this issue). The L1/L2 legs were 180 out from the one that it replaced but I put them on their respective posts (or at...

Can a bad multiport valve allow filter sand back into the pool?

Definitely sand. This came out of the robot. Looks really fine. Maybe that's the issue (going right through the laterals)?

Can a bad multiport valve allow filter sand back into the pool?

That's why I asked about the valve. I never really considered the size of the sand. Just bought what the pool store had in stock.

Can a bad multiport valve allow filter sand back into the pool?

That assumes the multiport valve is working properly though, right.

Can a bad multiport valve allow filter sand back into the pool?

You'd think so. I'll try to catch it coming from the returns to confirm.

Can a bad multiport valve allow filter sand back into the pool?

It is. The robot is full of sand too. I have no doubt what it is and the sand filtration system is the only available source.

Can a bad multiport valve allow filter sand back into the pool?

I have not tried that but I will. Pool was completely clean from new liner install. Over the next 6-8 weeks it built a good amount of sand all over the pool. Once I get it cleaned up, I'll put it in Circulate to see if it returns. Of course, if the valve is malfunctioning, that may not be a...

    Healthy level of chlorine

I wonder if that would help me. My CYA is already 70 but FC is 3.5-5.0 and I always seem to be on the verge of an algae bloom. Also lots of rain and direct sunlight (Mississippi Gulf Coast). How are you achieving such a high CL number? Does your swg do it all or do you have to supplement...

Can a bad multiport valve allow filter sand back into the pool?

I've chased this issue for a while now. Replaced laterals/standpipe with no change. Had all pool lines pressure and vacuum tested (all passed). Can the valve itself allow sand back into the pool? It's original to the build (about 14 years ago). Appears to work properly otherwise. It's...

Sealant for large temporary underwater repair (vinyl pool)

My (2nd) liner has failed in one corner. Liner installer repaired it twice with some sort of silicone that apparently cures underwater. Unfortunately the liner fit so poorly in the seam where the floor meets the wall that it was always under strain from the water weight. So...the repairs...

    "Hotwire" my pool pump?

Well, notosomuch. Auto parts store only had 7.5 amp fuses. Blew it immediately. I guess its time for yet another main board.........UGH.

    "Hotwire" my pool pump?

    Blown fuse. Disregard. LOL

    "Hotwire" my pool pump?

It would just be the breaker acting as a switch. I'll get a pic. Hoping just a fuse.

    "Hotwire" my pool pump?

It appears my SWG may have died, (checking fuses in a bit). If fuses are good, how can I "hotwire" the pump to run? We have freezing weather moving in. Thanks

    Let's play "Where's my leak?"

Thanks. Refilled the pool today. Blocked main drains so it's only pulling from the skimmers. Set for 72 hour boost (Because it needs it) and that way the pump stays up round-the-clock.

    Let's play "Where's my leak?"

I'll look at that. May account for the bubbles but not the massive leak. I guess it's time to start digging.......ugh!

    Let's play "Where's my leak?"

Additional info: I'm seeing bubbles in the return jets. Pulling air into a suction line somewhere? Anyone?

    Let's play "Where's my leak?"

Sooo..... I experienced no water loss since my last post (over a month ago) until yesterday. Suddenly lost 3" last night.

    Let's play "Where's my leak?"

Update: No water loss overnight (about 13 hours with the pump off). Set pool back to normal and observing.

    Let's play "Where's my leak?"

The reason I blocked the discharges and not the suctions is two fold. It lost water well below the skimmer level so those as a source of the loss seems highly unlikely. Also, the pipe plugs I bought wouldn't fit the skimmers and I was holding off trying the Main Drains until last. When I...
