Solar Cover on a pool with pop up pool cleaner

Hi all, I'm resurrecting this thread in hopes that some one has found a clever solution to my problem since my last post. I ended up just ditching the pool cover last year due to the hassle of unfolding the cover every morning and afternoon (I have my pop-ups set to run twice a day for an hour...

    SWG output, how's my math

Thanks for doing the math. I was wondering how to do the same thing and saw your post. Confirmed I was on the right track with my math :-)

    Borates Don't Drop?

Sorry for the late reply. I was traveling for the holidays. My target was 40ppm based on my reading here, but I wasn't concerned with 50ppm. Just higher than my calculations indicated I should get to :-) I have an auto-fill so with splashout I would have expected the borate ppm to drop. I'm...

    Borates Don't Drop?

All, I added borate to my pool back in April. Overshot my goal slightly and hit 50ppm. Not too high based on what I've read, so I was thinking I'll just wait for it to drop due to splash out, evaporation, etc. However, I still get a reading of 50 ppm. I will admit I find the borate strip...

wet edge satin matrix pool vs spa question - texture

We decided on the Primera Stone instead of the Satin Matrix for both the pool and spa for that reason. Can't say it would be uncomfortable for sure with the Satin Matrix, but for the cost delta we decided it wasn't worth the risk. Good luck with your decision.

Green hair & copper... I'm confused

OK. Sounds like I don't need to worry about pH leaching. I'll test my fill water and my pool water once my kit gets here. Once I figure out how to eliminate the copper, I'll just add the copper test to my periodic test suite. Thanks!

Green hair & copper... I'm confused

Low pH and a gas heater... the combination of the two ? I have a gas heater for the pool (not sure if the heat exchanger is copper or not, but I can find out). When I went through the process of adding Borax to the pool I'm sure the pH was low (6.8-7.0) during at least part of the time...

Green hair & copper... I'm confused

My platinum blond daughter now has green hair. No amount of clarifying shampoo has worked. I found a thread regarding other products to try so I'm going to do that. Now how did this happen? I think I understand that it's not chlorine or algae or anything else that causes green hair. Just...

Solar Cover on a pool with pop up pool cleaner

Thanks. I really want it just to extend the season of the pool. Kids don't seem to mind, but it's a little cold for my tastes :D I could heat it (I have a gas heater that should be added to my signature), but that gets expensive. Not quite ready to give up yet. Worse thing that happens is...

Solar Cover on a pool with pop up pool cleaner

Well, that didn't really work or I didn't trim off enough. Seems like I may need to remove large sections where the jets are close to the surface. Finally watched the process "live" this weekend. What happens is the water from the in-pool system pushes the cover down and under. Eventually...

Solar Cover on a pool with pop up pool cleaner

Trim back from the edges ? Guess I can try that. I made it relatively tight thinking that the coping would help deflect any wind that might come up. Project for the weekend :-) Thanks!

Solar Cover on a pool with pop up pool cleaner

All, I just put an 8-mil cover on my pool. Each time I come home, the cover is folded up upon itself. The only culprit I can think of is the in pool cleaner. When the cleaner runs, there is a fair amount of "bubbling" at the pool surface. Does this make any sense ? Thanks!

New Owner - Pool Volume Question

Yep, what Richard said is how I did it. My pool is very irregular as well, so I just estimated and adjusted my estimate based on dosing and testing. In truth, it's only a pool so being off one way or another slightly isn't that big a deal.

Pool too cold for SWG. CL choice while OOT ?

Wanted to report back that raising to SLAM level (or close to it 28 ppm was all I could do with bleach on hand) and leaving the pool unattended for slightly more than 2 weeks worked great. My FC level is still at 10 ppm. Too cold for my SWG still so I'll just let the FC naturally drop to 5-6...

Pool too cold for SWG. CL choice while OOT ?

For the last several days it has been between 0 to 1 ppm per day. I didn't test yesterday, but I plan on testing today to see what the delta is for two days when I've added no CL. Thanks !

Pool too cold for SWG. CL choice while OOT ?

No, I don't have a cover. I thought about SLAM level too, but was concerned that FC dissipate too quickly without some sort of generator given the organics that get into my pool (still lots of leaf drop going on here).

Pool too cold for SWG. CL choice while OOT ?

My pool is too cold for SWG to work. It's been very cold (by Bay Area standards) here recently and the pool temp is 49F. I've been adding bleach to maintain my FC, but we will be going on vacation for a couple of weeks. What's the best thing to use ? My current numbers; FC: 5 CC: 0 pH: 7.8...

Sanity check my winter plan please

You've never been to Los Altos ;-) We have police for everything :-( Still, I would feel better using the house clean out and it is within easy hose distance. I figured I wouldn't need to worry about the rain, but best to ask. Hmmm... not sure I know what you're referring to. Do you mean...

Sanity check my winter plan please

Hi all, Just got our first real rain here in the Bay Area a couple of days ago and along with the real start of "fall" (i.e. leaves dropping) I thought I'd check to see if my plan for getting through the winter is sound. We're keeping the pool "open", but not heating it. Just heating the spa...

    Help! 1st Home and Pool

A voice of reason there Ike. Slow down and think about it. No one here knows you. You might be willing to manually "skim" the Crud out of your pool in the next few days/weeks or you may not. My personal preference would be to get as much of that stuff out of my pool before replacing any...

    pH and SWG Question

My SWG is on 10% a couple of hours a day as I'm trying to lower my FC as well. My in-pool cleaner is vigorous enough to yield some aeration as well (large bubbles of course). Still I'm not expecting my pH to rise quickly, but as I don't know another way to lower the TA, I'm going to lower the...

    pH and SWG Question

Kinda what I figured, but thanks for the confirmation :-) Since we're not swimming much with the cooler weather I thought now might be a good time to try to get the TA down. If I undershoot the pH a little, no one is going to know but me ;-)

    pH and SWG Question

Sorry if this is a stupid question... Since an SWG is a aeration device, can I expect the pH of my pool to rise due to simply running the SWG ? If so, does this happen "quickly" ? I know that will depend on the % setting on the SWG, but it seems to me the aeration provided by the SWG might be...

    Newbie with lots to learn

Interesting take on SWG. I had never really considered that I could just "goose" the FC by adding bleach in the summer time. Good idea and thanks for suggesting it ! Right now, I'm just trying to get a good baseline for the SWG to get me through fall and winter. While I have a gas heater and...

    Newbie with lots to learn

My skimmer is not connected to the pump, the pool drains are. The skimmer is the return when the cleaner is running, but not when the pump is running. BTW, where did you find the data 1/4 of the energy and 1/2 the water ? Be nice to find the details for my system to see if there's a different...

    Newbie with lots to learn

Pool temp is currently 60F so I think I'm OK there. The SWG says the minimum production rate is 25 gpm. What I don't understand if how I get gpm out of rpm for the pump. In the back of the pump manual there is a graph that shows gpm and rpm but it references something called "total head"...

OK. Thanks. I'll get the pH down and work on getting the FC down. My plan is to test the FC today to see what my new run time has accomplished. Thanks !

    Newbie with lots to learn

We had a new pool installed this year. I've had a pool company recommended by my installer taking care of my pool for the last couple of months but want to take this over myself. I bought a test kit (Taylor K-2006) and have taken two samples a couple of days apart with similar results. Sample...
