Patio, Koi Pond & Outdoor Kitchen Build in Houston

That is an incredible project! very nice and contemporary use of space. Curious to know why the koi pond is so deep? Is it because of the heat in south Texas?

    BBQ island build in Phoenix

I am late on getting these up, but the grill is finally done.... The counter top was tinted with cola colored stain working up to the color and variation of light and browns. It was sealed with 511 impregnator and stone sealer. The stone was leftover from my pool remodel and was also sealed. I...

    countertop forms for sale

I am wrapping up my BBQ island and have some materials left. I have just over 1/2 the box left of bullnose forms http://concretecountertopsolutions.com/products/countertop-forms/half-bullnose-full-package/ These were ideal for creating a nice half bullnose profile for my project. These are easy...

    Waterproofing

I think it really comes down to how much rain water you get or how often you will spraying your island down with a hose. I think Redguard should be fine and the least expensive, I used Hydroban because I had some left from my pool bond beam build. I also installed kerdi in a master bath...

Yes. I have cola colored stain from Countertop Solutions on order. Sure hope it looks good to the ironwood stone.

    Waterproofing

I agree with Jabooh a waterproof barrier is a good choice. May be an overkill but its a minor cost of assurance of keeping the materials intact and any storage inside dry. I used Hydroban(hydrobarrier) from Laticrette which is like Redguard. The Hydroban is one of the steps for the MVIS stone...

    BBQ island build in Phoenix

I was concerned about this too. A mason friend of mine suggested to keep a little mix left, remove any gravel and mix up a mini batch of slurry and fill it in. But I didn't do this and forgot in the rush of things during the pour. The mix I used costs $16/bag but thinking to get a bag of 5000...

    BBQ island build in Phoenix

It turned out pretty good. I have been traveling and haven't had a chance to post. My pictures are not very good just got busy. My dad helped me and it was a lot for him as the concrete started to setup faster than I had planned. Ended up with alittle more water than the bag indicated but in...

    BBQ island build in Phoenix

I was looing at the 5000 concrete too but ended up with countertop mix. Killer, make sure you have enough bags - not sure how the pour would turn out with a second pour later if you did come up short.

    BBQ island build in Phoenix

Thanks for chiming in... I spent time reviewing both Z countertop and Cheng's site also some Buddy Rhodes too. Really impressed with Cheng's product and site, more my style of projects, etc. I ended up buying z countertop forms - really easy and mounted them this past weekend. After reviewing...

    Let the build begin!!!

Orogrande, did you use a additive for the quikcrete i.e. Z counterforms counterpack or liquicrete or Chengs additives? I have been hitting countertop forums - some use the additives and some don't with good results. Curious to know what you used or didnt use - your project turned out great!

    Let the build begin!!!

Not sure about Redguard but Hydroban(laticrete version of hydrophobic coating) used under veneer stone is the layer just before adding stone. Let dry and mortar veneer stone directly to it. Mortar joints are not waterproof so depending on where you live and how you build the structure you may...

    BBQ island build in Phoenix

This is the pic of the rollout and grill. I have a couple of inquires to see if this is an issue or not. I would think with proper side to side venting for the grill which hasvents on the left and right side of grill I should be ok. But I don't want to be part of dinner if there is a BAM! :p

    BBQ island build in Phoenix

No. I have done a couple other projects including TV stone on the bond beam of my pool. The product actually calls for stone to be applied directly. I use Laticrete mortar with Kevlar additive - amazingly strong adhesion.

    BBQ island build in Phoenix

I just realized I may have really screwed up on where I placed my roll out tank storage. I have it directly under the grill and not off to the side for instance under my drawer. Even through I have a floor on the grill cutout and the rollout has a box I am concerned this is not adequate and void...

    BBQ island build in Phoenix

So been lurking on this bbq island forum about a month asking questions etc. Thanks Jabooh and others for the great feedback to get me started. The island is small and basic but adding TV stone and concrete countertop to create a rich appearance. The grill I purchased was the Blaze 32 with...

Blaze Grills.. Have you seen/heard of these new to market?

I have the 32" blaze(sitting in a box still) arrived last week. Like many others have wrote I too think it ranks the best in the $1500 price range. The lion was my other choice and it was tough to decide. So obviously this would be my second choice.

    My ODK Build in Houston

Great feedback Paul, This was my concern too, don't get much water here but when it rains it pours. I think I will add a inner floor off the edge of the steel stud and also raise the island using trex or resin wood like you have done. I plan to coat the durock with Hydroban before the stone...

    My ODK Build in Houston

Paul, One thing I forgot to ask, a few post above you show a detail C. What are those yellow details below the steel stud framing of the grill. It appears to be a spacer to let water flow below and or water to run out, prevent collection of water. If this is the case what did you use? Thanks...

    My ODK Build in Houston

Thanks Paul, All great points. I decided not to do the drop in, after further layout and loss of counter top wouldn't leave me hardly any area left up top. A fridge below could always be added on the side opposite of the grill. I like the idea of a drawer and found 2 on the bbqguys website...
