    DiChlor vs Bleach

It sounded like I was being quoted absolute truths there for a minute  Like PoolChlor my company services alot residential pools once per week with natural water temps approaching or exceeding 90*f and we do it with di-chlor so I'm sure some of our cyas are way high. We try to have 3-5ppm...

I don't think that cya is that critical

Re: CYA Testing My commercial pools are running 60-80ppm cya and 1-3 fc. They are tested monthly for cya and daily for fc. They do not need any other algaecides or phosphate removers. I charge 3 times the amount for these pools as I do residential and they get a visit twice a week rather than...

Skin itches after I've been in the pool

Richard you seem to have a wealth of information when it comes to pool chemicals and balances. What do you do for a living? If you don't mind me asking. By the way these are outdoor pools that generally have cyas above 80-100 ppm.

    DiChlor vs Bleach

Like I said I have read the articles in AQUA and Pool and Spa News so I understand the concept, I've just never seen it happen. Likely due to the fact that my pools are maintained at ~3-5ppm instead of the 1-3ppm. I even tell customers to keep it there to avoid another service call. I will keep...

Skin itches after I've been in the pool

Thank you for your help. Regardless of what your "pool school" (or should it be called pool bible?) says, I have taken a call or two over the years from some of my many residential customers about irritation due to perceived "over" chlorination and I stand behind my statement. One of my...

    DiChlor vs Bleach

I will start checking cya more often to see if any patterns develop. I respect your opinions and am always looking for another tool to put in my toolbox, so to speak. To date I have never had a problem (with a residential pool) that was solved by reducing cya levels. You can tell people...

    DiChlor vs Bleach

Re: CYA from 60 to 0 ppm I've read the articles and follow health department guidelines but I think that the effects of cya on the effectiveness of sanitizers are still somewhat up in the air and possibly grossly exaggerated. I don't have any studies or numbers to back this up but I have a ton...

    DiChlor vs Bleach

Re: CYA from 60 to 0 ppm So with the weaker di-chlor it is almost 1lb=1gal. Thanks! how do you come up with this stuff? So say I've got 0 fc in my scg pool (due to heaver bather load, dirty cell, space wolves, whatever) and the cya is at 80 ppm (max recommended by scg manufacturers) and I...

When a good pool goes BAD LONG

I wouldn't worry too much about what 10-12 lbs of di-chlor would do to your cya reading. To be honest on a salt pool I wouldn't worry too much about cya at all. I think people tend to over complicate things. One shot to get your fc back up will do no harm and would definitley be more effective...

When a good pool goes BAD LONG

Looks like fun!!! At some point depending on the pool type it will be cheaper and definitely faster to just drain the pool with a submersable pump and refill it. There are a lot of factors involved in determining your best method though. I would hammer it with di-chlor (1lb per 3k gal), brush...

    DiChlor vs Bleach

You seem to know what your talking about so I'll ask  How does 6% clorox compare to soduim di-chlor say at 62%? Gallon:Lb?

    Electrics

Yeah,.. I know this post is long dead :P I have a small issue with your statement. I am a licensed pool and spa service and repair contractor in the state of California (C61-D35). I would not be out of my classification doing any electrical work on an existing swimming pool short of running...

Skin itches after I've been in the pool

You may want to try a chlorine free shock. I have used them to control irritation from chloromines in some of my more sensitive customers pools and gotten great reveiws. Although I haven't persoanally tried it. 2 lbs of ~40% potassium monosulfate should treat 20k gal.

CYA from 60 to 0 ppm

I would try a simple bucket test (for a leak) before I started blaaming the space wolfs and seamonsters. Edit: You did not lose any salt? Guess it may have been spacewolves afterall... Edit2: What is the avialable chlorine on clorox?

I don't think that cya is that critical

I don't think that cya is even that critical. As long as you're above 60 ppm and below 100 ppm you sould be fine. At least that's what the local health department wants on my commercial pools. May be splitting hairs here a little, so to speak :|

    Pool design Question.

Maybe I'm not quite understanding what you mean by an "L" shaped pool but if it is literally L you may have problems getting an apc to cover the entire area effectively. Not that it can't be done. I've seen alot of issues with brand new L shaped pools with "upset" APCs and the APC is not...

    Filter Housing Repair

:goodjob: Doesn't sound like what I would call a good customer anyways. Are you charging anymore for the wasted (leaked out) chems. I usaully have problems with customers who do not trust what I tell them and act accordingly. I would tell the guy that you need to fix the filter problem or kick...

    Crisco in gunite pool

Thanks for the welcome! What we have done so far is raise cl. and run filter 24 hours & b/w daily. I'm thinking we will add some clarifier today. It is quite a disgusting mess. How long until I can post pics?

    Filter Housing Repair

I wouldn't work around that cracked tank! It's just not safe. Hayward filter tanks are notorius (around here) for splitting and cracking. I had one recently that blew about a 12"x12" chunck out of the top and we found it about 50 ft away from the equip pad! It's still laying around the shop as a...

    Crisco in gunite pool

Hey guys! This is my first post 8) I have run a pool service and repair business for the last 8 years and have never come across a problem like this. My partner who has been in the business for 30+ years has but he is old school and with all of the advancements lately I thought there had to be...
