    Easytouch, heater, and pump speed?

My system is setup to change a value when the heaters on, and change it back when the heater's off. To save energy, I'd like to have my Intelliflo change speeds, too. For example, I run my Intelliflo at 1000 RPM (140W) normally; however, I need to bump it up to 2350 RPM (890W) when the...

    Filter cleaning vs robot cleaning?

What should be the balance between pool filtering (going the filter, ozinator, clorinator) vs what a robot cleaner (such as the Dolphin Premier with a 2 micron filter)? Or do you even take into account the cleaning robot's cleaning ability? If I run my pool pump @1200 gph, I'd run it for 10...

Intelliflo VS -- flow, head, power

I've been playing with the RPM of my Intelliflo with the spreadsheet that Mark's produced and cross referenced with Pentair's chart. I found some anomalies; would they make sense? Note that I'm putting ranges, as I see the watts very over time. RPM Watt GPM (Mark's chart) TDH...

understanding how a booster pump effects the system

I would think that heating only from the bottom of the pool would be better than heating 1/2 at the top and 1/2 from the bottom. Why is heating the top of the pool important? I was thinking that I'd have bypass values such that when the heater wasn't in use, the water flow would bypass it, but...

understanding how a booster pump effects the system

I don't have a current setup -- this is all theory. My issue is that I only want my "lower set" to go through the heater (i.e, just have the heat come up through the bottom set and not the top). My understanding is that if I split off the circulation set before the heater, I would be...

understanding how a booster pump effects the system

I have a few questions about how booster pumps work in a system: - After they are "primed", do you shut the circulation pump shut down? - If you have a variable speed circulation pump, would it be more efficient just to increase it's speed? For example, if I was running my VS pump at 20 gpm...

    Most efficient pool plumbing

The 150W is what Pentair quoted (taken from their e-mail): for example the VF pump at 35gpm with 10 feet of head will use 200 watts. If its running at 20gpm with 10 feet of head it will use 150 watts. Sounds like the Pentair people (like myself) didn't know about the head going down when the...

    Pool sweep suggestion

So for a new pool (where I have a choice of what to start with), a pool sweep that requires a booster bump would use significantly more energy than a robot (which draws 180W).

Why are swimming pool pumps less efficient than pond pumps?

At least for low flow (I have to limit my pool flow to 36 gpm due to CA regulations for a 12,000 gal pool), it seems that pond pumps can be much more efficient than pool pumps; does anyone know why? An example: At 10 head, 35 gpm, an Intelliflo draws 200W. An "Elite 800 Platinum" pond pump...

    Pool sweep suggestion

The question is, then, which draws more power: a booster pump or a robot. I see that a "Dolphin Premier" robot draws 180W and recommends 2.5 hours (so 450W per day). I can't seem to find an equivalent data sheet for booster pumps.

    Most efficient pool plumbing

Thanks for the information about pipe sizes and 90's. However, I don't see that lowering speeds saves energy, given that I can't go over 36 gpm (CA rules for a 12,000 gal pool). For example, I got the specs for an intellflo; at 10 head, 35 pgm draws 200 W, while at 20 gpm, it draws 150 W...

    Most efficient pool plumbing

I'll be installing a new pool shortly and want to create the "most efficient" pool plumbing, as my current electrical rates 31 cents/Kwh. I'm trying to conserve head feet and 90 degree turns. Note that where I live in CA, I have to keep 3 ft between the filter and heater (for eventual solar...

    Pool sweep suggestion

I am having a new pool installed (roughly 35x9' rectangle, with a "shamo" shelf attached at one end/side, 12,000 gal). I have 6 returns specified (3 near bottom of pool to pipe heated water to bottom, 1 at each end to create a circulation, and 1 90 degree pointed at my "shamo shelf"; I'll have...
