How much chlorine will I need (gross numbers)

I think you will need much closer to 40 gallons than 20. I just turned my swamp to an oasis over one weekend and it took about 35 bottles of 121 oz 8.25% bleach. But I have a great DE filter, my CYA was lower than yours (I had to shock at 28 FC) and my wife and I stayed up testing and cleaning...

Looking for the best year round cover for El Paso, TX

Hello, Recently moved to El Paso and purchased a home with a pool--my first one. While I love it, the wind and dust and leaves here in El Paso are a constant, daily headache in trying to keep my pool clean. Thus, my wife and I were looking for a good pool cover. We are leaning towards a...

Another newbie with a green pool

I think we went through about 60lbs total--a bit more than 2 full boxes of the Leslie's brand DE. We backwashed 5 times and stripped it down for manual wash 1 time. It was a lot of DE and a lot of work but in the end it was worth it as we have our pool back!

Another newbie with a green pool

Re: Another newbie with a green pool--what a difference a weekend makes. Thanks everyone for your help. I thought you might want to see the pool today, Sunday. Wow, I can't believe it was so disgusting on Friday. This BBB stuff really works. My wife and I are totally convinced now. Thanks so...

Another newbie with a green pool

Oops I ran into a snag. I was not prepared enough with testing supplies. I am running out of R0871 reagent for the chlorine drop test. My pool is looking much better on day two but it is Saturday and non of the pool supply stores in town, El Paso, carry R0871 in store. I ordered more online but...

Another newbie with a green pool

Good news! I just retested PH and it is down to the 7.5 range. I added some more acid (28oz of 31.45%) to get down to the 7.2 range. I'll let that circulate for thirty minutes and then start the chlorine SLAM process. By the way, with my DE filter is it easier to pull apart and clean or just...

Another newbie with a green pool

Here's the test results I have now: TA: 120 PH: >8.2 CYA: 70 FC: 0 TC: (not sure) Thanks for the information/quick response Charlie_R. I will continue to attack the PH level using your approach. Are there other test results I should post at this time? Also, is CH = Calcium Hardness? I have...

Another newbie with a green pool

I was doing really well with the BBB approach to maintaining my new pool (just moved into house last August and first time pool owner) until I had hernia surgery and couldn't work on it anymore. Now it is forest green and filled with algae. I am recovered from my surgery and ready to start the...

    During freezing temperatures--Question

Thanks for the information. I had no problems but have run the water through both returns (same pump, simple sheer falls from wall on left of pool). Now I am wondering, though, if I should winterize my pool here in El Paso to save on electricity. Thoughts?

    During freezing temperatures--Question

I am currently running my pump to keep pipes from freezing in 28 degree overnight temp. However, I have some waterfalls that I have not diverted water to for 1 month. Should I divert water through all these pipes too? Will it matter? Thanks.

Re: Help SLAMing the pool with possible Mustard Algae (NooB Got it. Thanks for the tip about the rain. But how would I possibly pass an OCLT if it rains overnight? Just bought a house and really trying to conserve funds. Thanks!

Help SLAMing the pool with possible Mustard Algae (NooB ?)

Re: Help SLAMing the pool with possible Mustard Algae (NooB Thanks for your responses. I've only had the pool a month and I am still learning so forgive the experimentation with other products. At this point, I think I am going to end the SLAM process as we are scheduled to get rain over the...

Help SLAMing the pool with possible Mustard Algae (NooB ?)

Hello, Glad to be part of the forum. I've learned a lot so far, I just need to learn more and help persuade my wife this approach really is better than spending money at Leslie's and having the CYA shoot up (even more; see below). So I noticed a yellowish green tint to the shaded walls in my...
