Can't get rid of very fine dirt in pool

I just wanted to stop by and report that my [s:2vqzbfnw]dirt[/s:2vqzbfnw] algae problem seems to be licked - for now. At least there hasn't been any "dirt" on the bottom of the pool lately. I just went heavy on the chlorine for a few days and backwashed every other day. The...

Can't get rid of very fine dirt in pool

Looks like a consensus of opinion among the "been there done that" folks - and I am listening!! Being a newbie, I had kinda thought that if I got algae that I would either see it on the walls or floor or that the water would get cloudy. Guess not... seems I still have plenty of learning to do...

Can't get rid of very fine dirt in pool

okay... I was looking at the pump/filter and I'm thinking that if I disconnect the hose between the pump and the filter up top at the filter end that would give me a "Waste" output. I can hook another hose to that short hose to give me a way to pump water away from the pool area while using the...

Can't get rid of very fine dirt in pool

I got the Leslie's "Total Poolcare DPD Test Kit". I've read that they have a better one, but this was the best they had in stock at that store. What test results should I post other than the Clorine, pH, CYA stuff above? I don't do the testing, but I can post other results in about an hour. I...

Can't get rid of very fine dirt in pool

Always in the same areas everytime. I have 4 returns and the dirt settles where their outflow doesn't disturb the dirt. If I adjust the return jets (I have) the dirt just settles where the repositioned jets allow as they can't swirl all the water everywhere. Thank you for your replies, I...

Can't get rid of very fine dirt in pool

Overnight with filter running. This is a picture of the filter/pump setup from before I filled the pool. I'm not sure how you mean I could add a separate Waste line? Seems everything from the intakes has to go through the pump (and filter) before I could do anything else.

Can't get rid of very fine dirt in pool

I rinse after vacuuming to backwash. Not when I just do a normal vacuum. Just read the filter manual again and it says: RINSE - After backwashing, with pump off, set valve to RINSE. Start pump and operate for about ½ to 1 minute. This ensures that all dirty water from backwashing is rinsed out...

Can't get rid of very fine dirt in pool

The valve control on top of the pump has 4 options - Filter, Closed, Backwash and Rinse. Nothing that says Waste. Is Rinse the same as waste? I thought Rinse was what I did after a backwash to "pack the sand back down" in the filter. That's what I've been doing anyway, rinse after backwash.

Can't get rid of very fine dirt in pool

Doesn't algae grow on something? Meaning like it's more stationary unless disturbed by brushing or something like that? This stuff I have isn't on the walls or where walls meet the floor, and I'm pretty sure it's simply dirt that the dog tracks in from lying the dirt yard. Could be wrong... I...

Can't get rid of very fine dirt in pool

I imagine that not being able to get ALL the dirt out of a pool is probably a pretty common problem, so I'm hopeful that those here that have "been there done that" can offer some suggestions. I have a very small pool which I built for my dog. It's 17' x 8' and only 2 feet deep - approx 2,000...

Concrete Block Puppy Pool - in progress - many questions

I figured some of you might get a kick out of my more recent pool projects. Even in Florida it gets cold enough to make unheated pools seasonal. I'm thinkin' that without heating the water, a pool in this area is probably too cold to use from maybe November thru at least the end of March. There...

Concrete Block Puppy Pool - in progress - many questions

Not even sure where to pick up on this build. Some of this is interesting and may be helpful to anyone crazy enough to attempt a job like this, and some will be just for fun. Going back to before I put the travertine coping on, I was trying to figure out that bonding stuff and how to make up...

Concrete Block Puppy Pool - in progress - many questions

It's supposed to rain here for the next couple days, so I'm hoping to find time to update and close out this thread for those interested. Sorry to have taken so long to get back here, but even with the inside of the pool finished, my backyard still looks like World War III took place there and...

Concrete Block Puppy Pool - in progress - many questions

Thanks for your interest John. Sorry I haven't been posting, just been stupid busy! The build is moving along, but much slower than I was hoping, mostly due to rainy afternoons. I was having to put 2x4s across the pool with plywood laying on top of them and covering it with a tarp every darn...

Concrete Block Puppy Pool - in progress - many questions

Dan, I can't thank you enough for that post! "Yes, it does not have to be a continuous loop" solves so many problems! I appreciate the time it took to clear some things up. One last question re bonding if you can stand it! Since my pump seems to be double insulated, hence no bonding lug, is...

Concrete Block Puppy Pool - in progress - many questions

I agree, good post explaining bonding, thank you Dan. Thing is, I already understand the reasoning behind bonding, I'm just missing some of the technical aspects. Such as, does the bonding wire running around the perimeter of the pool HAVE TO go all the way around? Say there is a wood deck on...

Concrete Block Puppy Pool - in progress - many questions

I HAD to take a break from this Bonding stuff as I'm to the point where it's giving me headaches. So, I've spent the morning doing further research / decision making on the pool interior finish. I've decided (and ordered) the Sani-Tred products. http://www.sanitred.com/SwimmingPool.htm...

Concrete Block Puppy Pool - in progress - many questions

So, I lying in bed at 3am trying to figure this stuff out instead of sleeping, which seems to be the norm lately, and I'm thinking back to the start of my puppy pond/pool research. I think I mentioned that I started off on Koi Pond sites, and I had even purchased a liner, thinking I was going to...

Concrete Block Puppy Pool - in progress - many questions

Thanks Crek. I'm on page 42 of the Bonding topic threads (from the search function) out of 104 pages of threads. I've spent hours reading stuff that really doesn't pertain to my situation. :( My wife even spent the day trying to research the problem and is pretty unhappy that she "wasted her...

Concrete Block Puppy Pool - in progress - many questions

Okay, I'm out there working on the PVC plumbing and have come up with a couple things I could do, but I don't understand Bonding enough to know if these ideas would help. I could chip away some of the concrete used to fill the block to allow me to get to the 1/2" rebar that I put in the top...

Concrete Block Puppy Pool - in progress - many questions

Hi all, Happy Sunday! I'm down to two major issues yet to figure out, one being the finish products that I will use inside the pool, but I'd like to set that aside for now. What is causing me to lose sleep is this electrical bonding stuff. I stumbled across this subject too late in the pool...

Will This Work - pump question

Thanks for the replies guys. I already have a red handled shut off for each side of the T - both suction lines will get one. I also have the shut offs on the return lines. I figured that if at some point something goes wrong or I want to add equipment (such as a chemical dispenser) it would...

Will This Work - pump question

Sorry, I didn't realize that I could only have one thread at a time. I figured that being this section is dedicated to "Pumps, filters, pipes, ..." I would have better luck getting an answer to a pump & plumping specific question. Mea culpa

Will This Work - pump question

Howdy. I'm building a concrete block pool for my dogs. The build can be seen here: concrete-block-puppy-pool-in-progress-many-questions-t67964.html I'm at the plumbing stage and have a newbie question that I need help with before I proceed. The pool is only going to be 24 inches deep - to get...

Concrete Block Puppy Pool - in progress - many questions

The pipe on the same wall as the skimmer is also a suction line. Then there are the four returns on the sides. No bottom drain. Now, I'm hoping the pump I bought will be big enough to do the job. It's only 1/2 HP and I figured I didn't need bigger due to the small (gallons) size of the pool...

Concrete Block Puppy Pool - in progress - many questions

Puppy Pool Update - pic heavy Sorry, I've either been too busy or too tired to get online, but there has been some pretty good progress! The block work wasn't too hard, but very time consuming. Hauling all the block from the front yard to the back yard was probably worse than laying them. I...

Concrete Block Puppy Pool - in progress - many questions

Okay... that was fun! Well, maybe "fun" isn't the exact word that I'm looking for... The block will be filled as soon as I'm up to it. And I have to fill in the ledge (puppy lounge) area with packed dirt before I can pour that The returns (4 total) are low on the side towards the deck so...

    cement block pool

I started out my researching on the Koi pond forums before this Puppy Pool project turned the direction it's heading now. Lots of good construction information on those forums. Matter of fact, I have a 15x25 foot $400 EPDM liner sitting in my garage that arrived last week which I'll probably...
