    DIY Outdoor kitchen, Cypress, TX

Hi Todd, I should of clarified a bit more in my post earlier. The gas lines are run and functional it's the same line that feeds our pool and spa. So my concern is the following, he now needs to run lines from the stubbed out gas line and then also form a T-line( one line to fuel the grill...

    DIY Outdoor kitchen, Cypress, TX

Hi Wayne, not sure I can give you any advice as this is my husbands project and he is the expert. He did build a frame out of 2x4 for our raised eating area. Our eating area is 93"x44" with an over hang of about 12 inches (I think). The wood frame gives it more support- which I think is...

New pool build in North Texas! A long and skinny pool....

cchopkins, your pool will be beautiful and the tiles will complement your pool design. Nice choice on the tiles, we have similar tastes ;). Wow you have a lot of work planned for your outdoor space and from the plans it looks beautiful. What is the projected completion date for all three phases?

    Help with Wet Edge finishes

Thanks for the compliment on our pool cchopkins. Wow I wish I had the yard space for a 72 foot long pool, I could then swim laps to my hearts content and not bother with the swim tether. The 3k price for the jewelscape spa is pretty similar to what we were originally quoted and our spa is the...

    Help with Wet Edge finishes

The coping that we used was travertine. We've been very happy with the design and watercolor. I was a little worried with color choices in the beginning but it all worked out and wouldn't change a thing at this point. I don't know if this is the proper thread to answer your tile question...

    DIY Outdoor kitchen, Cypress, TX

No permits were needed, we just submitted plans to our local HOA. We moved to Houston from the East Coast where permits and township inspections were needed and done for all electrical work, some gas line work and some plumbing. I am not sure what is normally done in the Houston area and I...

    DIY Outdoor kitchen, Cypress, TX

Hubby decided to build an Outdoor kitchen himself instead of contracting it out. He's been working hard and making great progress. Cabinets are oak with a cherry oak stain and water sealer. The bottom will be stucco-he is using something called tuff stuff which I understand to be a premixed...

    Help with Wet Edge finishes

I know so much to absorb when you are going trying to build a pool and with all the different types of finishes...its a bit mind boggling. Back in the day when it was just plain white plaster it was so much easier, but with new materials and construction methods it's really cool to see all the...

    Neighborhood pool policy

We have a neighborhood with a number of pools. Before we built our pool our kids would be invited to swim at the neighbors pool by their friends and parents. I set the rules very early with my children and let them know they are not allowed to swim at the neighbors pool until I meet the...

    Sashimi! Delicious or just Bait?

Next time we are in Clear Lake for our sailing adventure I will drag the Husband to these spot. I figured Clear Lake area would have better sushi places but its just a matter of finding them. Will check out MFSushi too.

New in ground Shotcrete Pool Build in South Florida.

Northrider, your travertine coping looks similar to what our PB originally tried to put in. It looks like the large 13x24 pavers that some PBs try to use as coping because its cheaper. Before our build I had a chance to look at a lot of pool coping at showrooms and you are correct it should be...

    Help with Wet Edge finishes

April, have you had a chance to visit pools with the different finishes and put your feet in? Different people may differ in how sensitive their feet are and it might help your decision making if you can touch and feel for yourself. Main differences is Satin matrix uses a smaller stone than...

    New Pool Build in Miami

Yipee more progress! We had one "cut to size" pieces on our coping as well, once the coping is finished you won't notice it as much and it will be seamless. I love how your tiles have a 3d effect when put together, beautiful. Jro I must say you have ALOT of patience...considering how long its...

    Sashimi! Delicious or just Bait?

Pragmatic, so jealous..as usual your food pic looks so yummy. I personally prefer sashimi over sushi, but it has to be fresh. I love a nice fatty tuna slice dipped in soy with a little wasabi, if its a good grade of fish and fresh it almost melts in your mouth. Unfortunately I haven't found a...

How Good Is Game Of Thrones?

Laceygirl from your list it seems you like shows with a bit of a science spin, check out Orphan Black. We have to pay for the BBC channel here in the states , I think you get it for free in Australia right? I love what I do, love all things that involve science and technical in nature (I think...

How Good Is Game Of Thrones?

I'm barely in season 2 of GOT...so far behind. Breaking Bad is still on the top of my list. Another series that I haven't seen listed is Orphan Black on BBC and also Netflix, it is sci-fi but based on some of the latest biotech discoveries. I might be a bit partial since I have a molecular...

First time pool build - The Woodlands, TX

Too bad they didn't finish the pool before the rainstorm...lots of free water to fill the pool. Amazing how much rain fell. Are there any worries of walls collapsing in? Pool is going to be great when done!

    Rainstorm now water is cloudy

We've had some bad rainstorms in the Houston area and will continue to get rain the rest of the week. Our fairly new pool was a bit cloudy this morning. The first two days of the storm it was crystal clear, but with last nights rain storm some of our deck drains got covered with grass...

    Bleach Prices 2014

Has anyone bought Liquid bleach at the local Leslie's pool store here in Houston? I just bought some Muriatic acid from them 2 gallons for $11. I asked about liquid chlorine and the guy said they sell it by the case 4 jugs of 1 gallon bleach and the concentration is 15%. Cost is 15 bucks...

Updated with picture...Builder wants to polish stonescapes???

I wouldn't let them polish it either, you might encounter problems in the future. If the current work by the crew is not up to standard, personally I would be concerned with the workmanship when they polish. I think the PB is in the wrong and should either make it right or refund your money...

Poolproof hexaborate and mule 20 borax

Thanks Jason, I keep telling hubby we need to add more cya but he seems to think its okay according to his numbers. I think he gets worried about having a high CYA and then having to drain the pool. So what I am learning...wait about a year for the plaster to full cure and then see if pH...

Poolproof hexaborate and mule 20 borax

First 2 weeks after the fill the PB filled with pucks. I supplemented with bleach at the same time because Cl levels were still a bit low with the pucks. I only use bleach now along with baking soda. I have added CYA to help stabilize the Cl. But it still seems to be burning off quickly. I've...

Poolproof hexaborate and mule 20 borax

Jason, I have been working on balancing the water. I just don't understand how the pH can go from 7.5 to 8.2 in 4days...when nothing was added and the only thing running was the pump. The waterfall wasn't running. Readings on May 16 was: pH 7.2 Cl FC. 6 CC 0 TA 80 CH 250 CYA 30 Is this...

Ok still learning to balance our pool water. I've been thinking about adding borates to the pool to help stabilize the pH and bleach additions. The pH continues to rise to the 8.2 level after 5 days and over a 3 week period I have used 6 bottles of 8.25% bleach (121oz) Todays readings were...

Kitchen looks great, nicely done! LOVE the glass tile that you incorporated into the design. Is it the same one used on your retaining wall on the pool? Did you just use thinset and then grout between the tiles when you added it? My hubby is still building ours and I like the hidden microwave...
