    Pump keeps turning off

Hello, I have a Hayward Super Pump, 3/4 HP, Model C48J2N131. Lately it has been turning off on it's own. I'm guessing this is the thermal protection since it will restart after a while. The pump is in the shade all day long. Outside tempertures have been a little over 90 degrees. I checked the...

How to cleanup for repatching liner

Thanks for the replies. The hole is about about 6 inches long. It's really just a horizontal split that spreads open an inch or two. It is above the water line but is sometimes at or below the water line when the water level is high, say from rain. The main reason for the patch is to prevent the...

How to cleanup for repatching liner

I have a patch on a vinyl liner (use a piece of liner and HH-66 adhesive) that has come loose and I need to remove it and clean the area around the hole before applying a new patch. I'm having trouble removing all of the crud around the hole. Any suggestions on what to use to clean it? I found a...

    Very high chlorine and alkalinity

My brother-in-law followed the recommendations of a local pool store, and his pool is now messed up. I tested his pool with my TF-100 test kit and got the following results. The pool is a small 2,500 gal above ground. The water is currently cloudy. FC= 23.0 CC= 0.5 pH= 7.2 CH= 175 TA= 300 CYA=...

    Should I shock pool?

I did a true overnight test and found that the chlorine only dropped 0.5. CC was at 0.5. So I won't be shocking it (that is, raising chlorine to the shock level). The water is still clear so it looks like I am good. Thanks for the advise Mike!

    Should I shock pool?

Mike, You're probably right. I will do that. I didn't have time to check it early this morning. Just one note, I said shock but I use 12.5% liquid chlorine.

    Should I shock pool?

My pool seems to be using chlorine much quicker than normal for the past 3 or 4 days. I think I might have something growing in the water and may need to shock it. The water appears clear. Here are my test results from a TF-100 test kit: FC=4.5 CC=0.5 pH=7.2 CH=200 TA=120 CYA=65 Temp: 83...

    Blackbirds/Grackles

This is the first time in 14 years that I've had the problem. Hopefully it will be the last. Not sure what to do other than wait it out.

Winter Plugs (Any experience with the threaded ones)

I have the same setup. I use the threaded plugs with o-rings in the return lines and I use teflon tape on the threads. Sometimes I get air bubbles. When I do, I tighten them or redo the tape so that there aren't any air bubbles. I use the plugs with the wingnuts in the spa jets by the stairs...

Need advice to correct chlorine lock

Right, I don't think the pool place test from last year was accurate. I don't think there was a combined chlorine problem as their test indicated. The 2.5 ppm chlorine reading was the level when opening the pool. I have since increased the level and have been trying to keep it at about 3ppm. I...

Need advice to correct chlorine lock

Last summer, I continued my normal chemical usage and didn't have any noticeable problems the whole summer. I opened the pool a couple weeks ago and the water was clear. I bought a TF-100 test kit and tested the water. These are the readings I got: pH: ~ 7.0 Free Chlorine: 2.5 Combined...

Need advice to correct chlorine lock

Thanks for the welcomes and for the replies! I guess what I need to do is get a good test kit. If we assume for now that the pool store test is accurate, I should drain 1/3 to 1/2 of the pool water, add baking soda to adjust TA, and add something to reduce the pH if needed because of the baking...

Need advice to correct chlorine lock

I had my pool water tested today at a dealer using the BioGuard ALEX system. Here is how it tested: pH: 7.2 Total Chlorine: 5.5 Free Chlorine: 2.8 CYA: 127 Total Alkalinity: 97 Adjusted Total Alkalinity: 59 Total Hardness: 276 TDS: 500 Saturation Index: -0.5 I was told to add the following: >...
